Re: 2023 Weather Thread
The back end of that storm looks pretty impressive. I wasn't paying attention, has it really been stationary for that long? On radar it kind of looks like it wants to form a hook.
Its got the hook and the v notch, its a supercell!

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
It’s definitely a supercell at this point so it has a hook but I’m assuming it’s pretty elevated so tornado potential should be low. That said, this setup is pretty unique so who knows.Busguy2010 wrote: Fri Jul 28, 2023 10:11 pm The back end of that storm looks pretty impressive. That's funny, I edited my post right as you replied, adding that its a supercell.stormchaser wrote: Fri Jul 28, 2023 10:16 pmIt’s definitely a supercell at this point so it has a hook but I’m assuming it’s pretty elevated so tornado potential should be low. Golf ball sized hail... Looks like the western half of Omaha would get in on it.

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
We had some hail around 6pm or so. A few good sized stones but it only lasted a few minutes and never amounted to much. Not much wind either maybe a 30 mph gust. Then it rained for maybe 10 minutes.

That really fizzled out quickly. Severe with almost 2" hail by Fremont, to nothing by the time it got to Bellevue. I bet that'll screw us for later.

Yeah, I’d be surprised if we get storms overnight since the boundary is through. Who knows though.Busguy2010 wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 12:09 am That really fizzled out quickly. Severe with almost 2" hail by Fremont, to nothing by the time it got to Bellevue. I bet that'll screw us for later.

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
Here in the Westside district we had less than a quarter inch of rain, maybe 25 mph winds for a few minutes, and a smattering of pea to marble size hail that fortunately did not amount to anything damaging.
Of note, it did officially hit 102f today. Probably will end up as the hottest day of 2023.

Looks like the HRRR will be pretty spot on with this morning’s round of rain storms anyway. Most of the severe stuff will miss us to the south but hopefully we will get some decent rainfall.Brad wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 1:21 am HRRR currently showing rain for around 9 or 10 am on Saturday Morning.

Looks like a really nasty bit of radar that is moving south of us, more toward Lincoln and Beatrice. Hoping the other rain holds and hits us.

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
It’s bowed out but it’s also a fairly ragged looking line at this point and showing signs it’ll probably start dying out in the next hour or 2. Most wind reports have been in the 60-70 mph range so based on radar, I’d be surprised if anything occurs much stronger than that (even at the apex of the line).Busguy2010 wrote: Sat Jul 29, 2023 3:38 pm WOW, with the way that thing bowed out into a point, I wouldn't be surprised by 100mph wind reports around Auburn.
And unfortunately it looks like the majority of the leftover rain is swirling around to miss us.
![]()
Unfortunately Omaha itself is likely going to miss the rain (or most of it) thanks to the storms yesterday pushing the boundary to far southeast NE (which is why all the severe weather missed us).

Very heavy rain, pockets of pea sized hail in Dundee. Radar looks like we should see quite a bit more rain from this cluster.

That was the biggest hail I've seen this year. Pea sized, maybe pushing dime. Kind of a surprise to me as there was little to no talk about storms today.

Re: 2023 Weather Thread
I left at 3:40 pm to take my husband to the airport. Brilliant sunshine. I left our beach towels from swimming to dry hanging over our patio chairs. The cushions were still on the chairs from our patio breakfast.
3:50 pm the sun disappeared behind some clouds. I glanced to the west and it looked kind of dark.
4:05 pm arrived at the airport. Missed the south garage parking sign, so I had to loop back in order to park.
4:15 pm. Wished my hubby a safe flight and returned to my car in the garage.
4:20 pm paid the parking fee and had a severe thunderstorm warning alert on my phone. Head back into town, watching the darkish sky to the west. No rain yet.
4:35 pm get to 72nd and Pacific and the rain drops were starting to fall. Almost home and wondering what all I had left out on our patio that wasn’t supposed to be getting wet.
4:40 pm arrive home in the pouring rain. Retrieve already soaked chair cushions and beach towels. Lower patio umbrella as wind was picking up. Got soaked in the process.
5 pm rain stopped.
6:30 pm brilliant sunshine. Took dog for an evening walk.
It’s amazing how the weather can change so abruptly here. I could have walked into a movie theater wearing sunglasses at 3:40 pm and walked back out at 6:15 pm and put the sun glasses back on, and wondered why my car was wet.

Get out there and it looks like it is going to be hot and sunny. We put sunblock on and after 30 min it starts to cloud over. They were made everyone get out of the water due to lightening only to close a few min later.
On our way home, near Nebraska Crossing it starts hailing and pouring.

Our neighborhood got right at an inch. I had 0.97" and verified it with the station at Happy Hollow and they get 0.99". There is a weather station closer to your place, but I think its under a tree.nativeomahan wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 3:42 pm A nice heavy pre dawn rain this morning. This excess of rain has been quite nice. And the extended forecast looks to be cooler and wetter than normal too! I'm starting to see hints of fall. Yesterday I noticed the shadows are a bit longer, and it's starting to get dark noticeably earlier. Before ya know it, football will be starting and we'll be getting those comfortable days and brisk nights. Can't wait!

I don't think it's really signs of fall yet. We haven't even passed halfway through summer. NOAA had predicted August to be cooler than normal for the center of the country.
