I friggin love that game. That's literally how I spent my summer vacations as a kid. Then after high school, I didn't have a job or go to school for about a year, and I played it every day as an 18 year old. Then something happened to the disk and it quit working... But now in my 30's, i had a desperate twinge of nostalgia, and I came to find a brand new original RCT Loopy Landscapes on ebay for only 10 bucks! Now I don't have a lot of time to play, but I can't help but play every few weeks for a couple hours.

If you don't already know, there's a YouTube channel called Marcel Vos. The dude is a RCT master, and I'm pretty sure he makes at least a partial living off playing RCT. What a dream that would be.

We went for the first time this year on Saturday. So with the price of admission this year you get 3 extra free rides. The train is now free, the new car ride (and for those that compared it to Worlds of Fun's old car ride, LeTaxi, you are spot on, it's great) is free, and the new Carousel is free.

I love the new Cider House. Big gorgeous building. Love the money they spent around it with the pond, the stream that trickles down next to it, and the bridge over the stream to enter. Vala's is such a gorgeous park and this new addition definitely adds to it.

The new additions and extra free attractions have really upped the game out there. We rented a campfire for Saturday night and member's of our group were there from noon until 10pm.

We haven't gone yet this year, but with season passes, I plan to go at least 2-3 times. I am excited to see the new attractions. Vala's is really like the zoo in the past 10 years or so....new attractions every year and really upping the game for how everything looks. Great to see, especially with so many cherished restaurants and other things closing....glad to see these excel.

Vala's has to be one of the top pumpkin patches in the country.

With my daughter out of school for the next few days I took a day off and hit Vala’s. Our family of four got in for a little over $70 by purchasing the tickets online before getting there, which saved us a couple bucks per ticket. Plus, Mon-Thurs is $18/person versus twice that on Fri-Sun.

I’ve been critical about their significant price increases year over year, because in the past I’ve always felt you really didn’t “get” much for your entry cost. Just like most entertainment or tourist type destinations you normally don’t get food, souvenirs, etc for the price of entry. But I’ve always thought of Vala’s as a sort of amusement park, and compare it somewhat to Adventureland, Worlds of Fun, and so forth. I completely understand they are certainly much different as Vala’s has never been known as a place for rides.

Sure you could send your kids over to the corn maze, let them shoot plastic balls out of air cannons, walk through wannabe haunted houses and do a few other things like ride pedal cars. But anything of substance imo wasn’t included.

Well, I would definitely have to say I want to change my opinion at least a bit after our visit today. I had heard you now get the train with admission (used to be like $4 I think). And they also added the carousel and those motorized Model T cars (which was one of my favs at WofF as a kid). Assuming you’d assign about $4-$5 per ride then I would have to say admission at the weekday rate is definitely fair!

My daughter loved the motorized cars and the carousel and the train was fun. Being a Wednesday and Millard schools being out it wasn’t too packed and we got there around 10am.

As for myself and my wife I would have to say the huge additions to the property are by far the best looking and enjoyable. The cars were great and the new cider building with the brewery inside was way nicer than I anticipated.

I think someone on here mentioned that Vala’s may have investor(s) backing beyond the Vala family now. I would say it shows if that’s the case - and in a great way for the business! Of course they likely do well enough that investors aren’t needed, but given the number of years it’s been open for business it’s definitely the biggest change that place has gone through in only one-year’s time.

The cider facility alone was likely over a couple million; very modern and almost Colorado-ish in design… looked like it belonged in the Rockies!

The cider ale was very good - $10.50 for a pint is steep to me, but I don’t go to bars often and I’d assume a beer at a sporting event would easily be in the same ballpark for price. We all got BBQ at their new place over by the expanded area and it was $12/person for the sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese. I’d also say that was pretty fair given the amount of food and I thought it tasted very good.

We ate the BBQ inside a barn type of building right next to the food stand, but I’m not sure what the barn is supposed to be when it’s finished. There was quite a bit of unfinished electrical work inside and it appears there’s going to be a decent-sized bar with a lot of beer on tap available. Doesn’t look like the building will end up being fully enclosed so I’m not sure what the plan is with it.

Also noticed on the train ride that they drained the pond or lake you ride around. Anyone know what the plan is with that space? I joked with my family that they’ll drop a roller coaster over there. 😀

I guess my point is we had a blast, great food and beer and felt it was a good value on a weekday. With the renovations they’ve put into the place I can see why they’d raise rates on weekends… it will be busier and they’ll have a lot more staff on hand for the crowds. However, I’d still have a hard time paying $40/each to get in the gate on a Saturday even with rides included. My assumption would be the lines for them would be extremely long during peak hours. But if they add more rides (currently I’d say they really only have 3 as I don’t include pedal cars, bounce pillows, etc as rides) it may get to that point. My guess is if they drop a few more million into the venue then prices will increase again next year.

I’d give our visit today a 5 out of 5! I’d be interested to know who’s putting money into the place if they have outside investment support and what the plans are for next year. Given the amount of changes just from a year ago my guess is more new additions are planned for 2024.

We went on the train a few weeks ago and were told by a worker that they are just installing a new liner to help hold moisture. The previous pond kept draining so the dredged it out and installed a new system to retain the water better.

Thanks for the reminder!

Any idea if they have anything new for 2023? Seems like after they had the outside investor hop onboard last year they really expanded in a relatively short amount of time. The ride on motorized cars, the giant cider barn, the new BBQ dining area.

I pulled up their map and I can't tell if anything is expected to change for this season. And all of the videos about upcoming improvements are in reference to 2022, not this year.

I about p1ssed myself when I went last year and saw the prices.

It takes some serious stones to charge 50% more than a zoo ticket.

Good for them if they can get it. But no way I’m going back for $44 a pop.

Wow. I just cannot see what justifies that kind of increase. They added the barn and the car ride since the last time I went when my ticket was $12... These prices are on par with a full on theme park now. They really need to add like some thrill rides and some roller coasters if they want to justify almost $50 a ticket.

I completely agree. Aside from being able to ride the new cars and I think they did include the train, you don’t get much for almost $50.

I was pleasantly surprised when we went last year after the new attractions had been added and the “rides” were included in admission. However we also went during the week to get in for half the cost of their weekend admission.

Spending $50 to get in the door at Vala’s is not a good value. Their food is expensive (I suppose this should be expected), and their new cider beer is about $10/pint.

They need roller coasters, bumper cars and other thrill rides if they keep expecting to jack their rates up by 10% or more every year. You’ll spend $100 on a weekend just to get in their gate in a few more years.

My guess is they are pushing for people to buy the season pass. $70 at the discount price ending today and 100 normally. Get them through the gate multiple times and they will spend more once there.

You may be right - although the friends I know that have family passes tend to have a few younger kids (ie, 4, 5, etc) and they almost use the Vala's pass in a similar way as they use the zoo pass. They'll pack a lunch/sandwiches, etc. I can see this certainly saving people money, however I still don't see Vala's having enough "things" to do or see without spending additional cash.

The zoo has so much that one day you could spend at the aquarium and desert dome. Then maybe go back in another week or two and see the African exhibits, and so forth. Vala's is a big place but I don't know how people can make it a destination to go back to 4-5x in a single season.

Perhaps I'm simply being a negative Nancy, but I only go because my wife and girls want to go. I personally don't feel it's worth even 1/2 the costs that are listed above (assuming you went on the least expensive weekdays). Now you want to start handing out 2 drink tickets at the gate, maybe give a pumpkin to everyone that goes... add something with a little value, then I'd probably change my opinion (at least a little). 😁

For what is is worth, and it might be skewed by living in Gretna, but I know a lot of people that buy the pass and go many times through the season. By many times I mean every weekend for a few hours and a few weekday evenings. That is not for me but I know it is not just one or two people that I am aware of that do this.

Much like we use our zoo pass with a season pass it gives you the chance to go for an hour or two. see or do one or two things and then come back another time. That is what we do at the zoo. This results in not spending much inside the zoo most of the time for us. Om average though I am guess the pass people with think less about spending $$$ on food and drink for a shorter visit than if the cost is all at once.

Driving by daily and seeing the parking and the lines of cars in and out of valas during the season I don't think that they have reached a tipping point yet. Time will tell.

I'm a negative Nancy lol. I went a couple times in high school for the first time and it was fun the couple times, but that was pretty much it. You see it once, you seen it all. As a teenager there still wasn't much to do. I really only went because my friend group wanted to go and they did it yearly for a while after I quit going. I suppose more of a nostalgia thing for them since it was a yearly thing for some of them as kids, but since I never went as a kid, it just didn't hit me the same way.

I think it'd be great for them to add some more "this height and up" rides for older kids and the parents of the younger ones. Go karts, roller coasters, twists, vertical drops, actually scary haunted house, all with fall/pumpkin/Halloween theme. Then we can talk $50 admission. I know full well young adults still go there, but it is really kinda boring unless you're under the age of 8-10.

I don't have kids yet, but if I ever do, I won't be suggesting taking them to Vala's. That's how they get ya. You take your kid there once, then you're on the hook for taking them there for a good 'nother ten years. The kids love it. Great business model, especially at $50 a head, I just don't think there's really much substance to it. Give me a complimentary 15 lb pumpkin and a cider, then maybe.

We have kids and that’s the only reason we go. Thankfully our youngest starts Jr HS this year so as a 6th grader she’s going to be growing out of the little kid-ishness of Vala’s.

I don’t even think Fun Plex is worth $50… Vala’s absolutely not! Adventureland and Worlds of Fun yes.

You don’t get a $50 “value” in things to see at Vala’s. I suppose if you ride their train and Model T cars about 10x each you may be close. :)

I thought that was funny as well, but there are so many complaining about Vala's and I have documented the price increase each year, but there is still no place that offers as many things for both young and old alike. No local pumpkin patch even comes close. A lot of people have mentioned Skinny Bones, but they are charging $23 on the weekend for a place a 1/10th the size of Vala's.

LOL! This was hilarious! Kudos to Beaver Lake Productions. Amazing job on this video.

Has Vala's ever mentioned why such a massive increase in a 3 year period? Loss of attendance from Covid, building the new cider barn, etc?

They have never mentioned specifically but as you can imagine, with the number of workers that they have, the labor costs are probably pretty crazy. Add into that, the fact they have added something new every year and costs for materials and labor for those as well. Not to mention how much of a gamble it would be to fund your entire operation on a 45-60 day window each fall, with the weather changing.

It is cheaper to go to the zoo on a weekend than Vala's by almost $25 for a single adult. And on the weekdays, Vala's is only $3 cheaper.

We bought the season pass this year when they had the big sale in August. I figured since my kids still love it, and it is such a massive place, this is a better alternative to be able to just do a few things each time. The pass was around $60-70 with the sale.

I do hope that next year, they don't have a price increase though. As I mentioned above the yearly price increases are starting to take a toll. However, we just went on Tuesday night and the place was still packed. Like a ton of other things in the current economy, it is crazy how resilient spending has been.

I am more on the haunted house side of things, and tend to prefer Bellevue Berry Farm over Valas. But, I've enjoyed Valas. The prices are insane though. The cost of food/drink is extremely high and that's after the insane cost of admission. But, we go on weeknights, when the poor people go, or I have bought the discounted season pass before.

I do think part of it is crowd control. They have had so many people trying to go on weekends, it almost makes sense to have the prices that high. I remember the complaints of traffic jams on 370 and their parking lots being totally full. It is a cash grab, but honestly, I think it's a crowd control mechanism as well. Try to push more people to the weeknights and put less strain on traffic and staffing on weekends.

I have no issue with Vala's, but honestly thought that was hysterical satire. I've heard some affiliated with the pumpkin patch are not very happy right now though, but that's been anecdotal and more some of the rank and file workers commenting on social media.

Based upon the recent additions from the past two years (the Model T cars to drive and now the Scrambler) maybe they'll toss in a roller coaster!!!

If that's the case be prepared for about a 20% bump in prices. 🤣

I will admit that when their prices went up last season which was IMO the first "good" season since COVID, I wasn't happy. Actually I thought on the surface it was absurd. Spending so much to just get into the place was ridiculous! However I was pleasantly surprised to see they now included riding the train which was previously an add-on, as well as the new driving cars. I've said it before but we go on a weekday while my daughter is on a small school break which is literally 1/2 the price on weekends. I do believe certain things are not open on weekdays at least during the day, but probably nothing big.

If an amusement park ever opened nearby I think they'd either need to lower their prices or add a lot more rides. I don't consider walking past rabbits in a fenced area where you have to buy rabbit food an attraction.

I heard a commercial for Adventureland this week where it starts at $40 and they supposedly have 4 haunted attractions plus you get to ride the rides. That's basically Vala's price to get in the gate and they have a total of 3 real rides. As far as food prices go I would think Vala's must be priced comparable to Adventureland/Worlds of Fun... a single pint of their cider beer is $11-$12. I had a sandwich with a side of mac and cheese for $17. That's high to me, but I suppose on par with these types of places.

One thing I did find very on point in the satirical video was the mention of how things haven't been updated or dusted off in decades. I get it's suppose to have some spooky feel such as cob webs and so forth. But if you really look around inside their haunted houses or the mine you can see they haven't fixed, cleaned or changed things for probably 20+ years. The mine should have a motorized cart rolling through the place, that hasn't worked probably since my youngest was born and she's 11. Might be a minor detail but either take out the track or repair the thing. Can't be tens of thousands of dollars to fix what's basically a slot car system. They spent millions to build the cider mill... put a few thousand into fixing up the original parts.

The other thing I always thought was odd is the dummies or mannequins in the attractions. Half of them look like Grandma sewed them out of old panty hose stuffed with cotton fluff and the other half appear to be made out of paper mache. When we went this year the dentist in the "Old West Town" on the train ride was missing. It was extremely creepy looking anyway but I don't know if it broke or what. LOL

That is funny, I agree, they should update some of the thing in the pumpkin mine. And how hard can it be to dust things off. Also a lot of the things in the spook shed aren't working either.

They did have a social media post about the characters along the train route. They are revamping some of them, but why they couldn't get that done before the season I have no idea. We went earlier this season and just went back and they have already updated a few things. Hopefully they continue doing so with other parts of the operation as well.

For the prices paid maybe they should change over to real people as actors in the attractions! 😂

I totally agree with this. Some of the hokey stuffed figures in the haunted houses have been there since I'd go in grade school and we are talking about 1991 or 1992 here. That's crazy. Most of it hasn't been dusted off in forever and it's just the same dog and pony show.

I bet if you did ever climb into those spaces to clean you'd need a filtered mask and oxygen. Don't think there should be any asbestos though!
