Re: Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024
Here's ESPN's latest on it. This does state that Ulis was underage when he did some of the gambling.
Seven athletes charged in gambling sting at Iowa, Iowa State
Gambling investigations at Iowa and Iowa State have now resulted in criminal charges filed against seven current or former athletes, with ex-Hawkeyes basketball player Ahron Ulis and Cyclones quarterback Hunter Dekkers the ones with the highest profiles.
Each is accused in the complaints of tampering with records related to an Iowa Criminal Division investigation into sports gambling. Current athletes also could face a loss of eligibility for violating NCAA gambling rules.
According to Johnson County online court records, charges have been filed against Ulis, Iowa baseball player Gehrig Christensen and Iowa kicker Aaron Blom.
Dekkers was charged in Story County, as were ISU football player Dodge Sauser, ISU wrestler Paniro Johnson and former football player Eyioma Uwazurike, who was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2022 and suspended indefinitely by the NFL last month for betting on games during his rookie season.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety said Wednesday the investigation was ongoing and additional charges could be filed. Attorneys for the athletes were not listed in the complaints.
Mark Weinhardt of Des Moines said he was representing Dekkers and Sauser and that both would plead not guilty. He also said Dekkers, who was expected to be the second-year starting quarterback for the Cyclones this season, would skip preseason camp.
Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard said in a statement Wednesday that the process of addressing the issues with the athletes involved is "ongoing and will take time."
Ulis, who transferred to Nebraska after starting 27 games for the Hawkeyes last season, is accused of placing online wagers on a FanDuel account set up under the name of his brother, one complaint said.
Ulis was under Iowa's legal gambling age of 21 when, between February 2021 to December 2022, he used his phone to make about 1,850 wagers totaling over $34,800, with at least one placed on an Iowa sporting event and over 430 placed on NCAA basketball and football games, the complaint said.
Christensen, who appeared in 11 baseball games for the Hawkeyes last season, is alleged to have used his phone to make 559 wagers totaling $2,400 with the DraftKings Sportsbook from last November to February, with 23 placed on Iowa sporting events. The account was under his mother's name.
ESPN's Adam Rittenberg contributed to this report.

Nebraska picks up a late commitment from Ball State PG Jarron "Boogie" Coleman
Nebraska already had an open scholarship for the 2023-24 season. Then junior point guard Ahron Ulis was charged in a criminal sports gambling investigation, leaving his season – and future NCAA eligibility – in doubt. Needing to bolster their backcourt depth quickly, the Huskers landed one of the most recent and intriguing transfer portal options on Sunday.
Sixth-year senior point guard Jarron “Boogie” Coleman, a second-team All-MAC selection last season, announced his commitment to NU head coach Fred Hoiberg. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound native of Indianapolis entered the portal as an immediately eligible graduate transfer on Tuesday, Aug. 1, after getting his degree in July. The connection with NU was through assistant coach Adam Howard.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024
Was worried he was a player that was available all summer, no one was interested and NU took him out of desperation. Fortunately, reading this, he just hit the portal on August 1. Nice recovery from the Ulis mess.Coyote wrote: Sun Aug 06, 2023 5:58 pm

I realize NU was missing several starters or rotation players due to a variety of things (injury recovery, FIBA tournament, and late addition/VISA) but wow I wonder if Cale Jacobsen opened some eyes. I know he's a freshmen walk-on, but he was a top player in all three games in Spain. Could be a real sleeper. I hope he gets a shot in the regular season.

Keisei makes Japan's final roster for FIBA:
Nebraska senior Keisei Tominaga was named to Japan’s final 12-man roster for the FIBA World Cup on Monday.
Tominaga, a 6-foot-2 guard from Moriyama Nagoya Aichi, Japan, has been training with the national team since June in preparation for the event, which begins on Friday. Aug. 25. Tominaga is among a handful of NCAA players on their national teams for the event.
Japan has three final friendlies in preparation for the event, taking on Angola (Tuesday), France (Thursday) and Slovenia (Saturday) before their tournament opener against Germany.
Last season, he earned All-Big Ten honors in 2022-23, averaging 13.1 points per game while shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. Tominaga totaled 22 double-figure games last season, including nine 20-point games.
It will mark the third straight World Cup that has featured a Husker basketball player, as Tai Webster (New Zealand) competed in the 2014 and 2019 editions of the event.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024
Cool article on Josiah Allick's transfer allowing him to watch his sister play in Memorial Stadium:
“To see all her hard work pay off on the biggest stage — she made an all-conference team as a freshman — is great,” Allick said. “This is global athletics. It’s awesome. More than anything, I’m just really happy for her. A lot of great players have come through her, and for it to line up that my sister is at the forefront of this – it’s hard to describe. It’s great as a big brother.”
