Busch not retained, Rhule’s staff takes shape

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Bill Busch will not be a part of Matt Rhule’s coaching staff at Nebraska, sources tell 1011 NOW. Busch served as the Huskers’ interim defensive coordinator for eight games in 2022. During that time, Nebraska’s defense showed noticeable improvement, including four first-half shutouts. Nebraska allowed two touchdowns or fewer in three of its final four games under Busch’s leadership. The veteran coach started the season as the Huskers’ Special Teams Coordinator but was appointed to Defensive Coordinator in mid-September by Interim Head Coach Mickey Joseph. Matt Rhule is in the process of assembling his staff after being introduced as Nebraska’s new head coach on Monday. Rhule is bringing current Carolina Panthers staff members Evan Cooper, Terrance Knighton, and Corey Campbell to Lincoln. Reports indicate Ed Foley, who coached alongside Rhule at Temple, is also joining the Huskers. E.J. Barthel posted a picture in a Nebraska shirt on Twitter late Tuesday. Barthel served as the running backs coach at UConn in 2022.

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, White runs a 3-3-5 defense and has emerged as one of the top ACC coordinators. The 43-year-old White hasn’t previously coached with Rhule. Thamel reported White had “multiple offers” and chose Nebraska.

They forgot that Frank Solich was a winning coach, and Pelini won at least 9 games for 7 years in a row. H ell we even beat Georgia in a bowl game during his time there. That's relevancy. Don't disagree with your take at all. The one thing to remember though is that the Huskers set the definition of relevant extremely high in the 90's

We were definitely spoiled for a long time. After the last eight seasons, I certainly feel sorry for feeling like 9-10 win seasons weren't good enough. Though with Bo, it was gonna happen anyway. Had he been a bit more temperate, I think he should gave been kept until he turned in a real stinker of a season, which may have never happened.

I don't even expect much this season, just not worse than it has been. I'll take 4-8 or 5-7 one last time with all the growing pains you expect with a new staff, but after that, I expect improvement every season.
