Agate LLC first filed for a $600 million data center campus in Lancaster County in July 2019. The company is planning to develop two million sq ft (185,800 sqm) of data center space on more than 570 acres of farmland bounded by N. 40th Street, Highway 77, Interstate 80 and Bluff Road. A substation is located close by across Highway 77.
Wasn't sure where to put this, but more data centers are possible for CB. I have never considered that the intense demand from data centers on utilities as a positive.David Kubicek
Two unaffiliated data center companies — not associated with Google — are looking for locations for large expansions.
“Again, those aren’t huge employers, but the jobs pay well, and they’re big electrical users,” Walsh said. “With MidAmerican Energy already in the market and a ready supply of other utilities like water and sewer capacity, we have strong interest in that area.”
According to the article, this $1b is on top of the $5.5b they have spent in Iowa alone since 2007.
