2023 Hall of Fame Classic Matchups; Times Announced

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Semifinal round matchups have been finalized for the 2023 Hall of Fame Classic, scheduled for November 22-23 in Kansas City. All Hall of Fame Classic games will take place at T-Mobile Center and will be televised live nationally on CBS Sports Network.

The first semifinal on Nov. 22 (12:30 p.m. CT) will feature Boston College against Colorado State in a battle of ACC and Mountain West teams. Boston College will be coming off its best record since 2017-18, while Colorado State has amassed four 20-win seasons since 2016-17.

The day's second semifinal (3:00 p.m. CT) will pit Creighton versus Loyola (Chicago) in a Big East-Atlantic 10 showdown. Creighton made a run to last season's Elite Eight, and Loyola (Chicago) has reached three NCAA Tournaments since 2018. The Hall of Fame Classic championship round on Nov. 23 will then feature the consolation game at 12:30 p.m. CT followed by the championship game at 3:00 p.m. CT.

Creighton vs. Loyola (Chicago) – 3:00 p.m., CBS Sports Network

Thursday, Nov. 23

Finalists are Wisconsin, Xavier, Creighton and Notre Dame.

Hearing that Creighton is the favorite.

He is listed at 6'9" , 210lbs and is an elite shooter.

McAndrew is coming to Creighton baby!!!

New rankings are going to be out later this month, although he is #89, he is expected to rise up in the newest rankings.

Four-star big man Jackson McAndrew commits to Creighton

Jackson McAndrew, one of the breakout stars in the 2024 class, has committed to Creighton, he tells 247Sports. "I picked Creighton because I feel really comfortable with the coaching staff there and also the play-style I really see myself fitting in with them," McAndrew said of why he chose the Bluejays. "Also the player development piece was key. I thought about guys they had previously and who the coaches have coached that are a lot like me and helped them get to the NBA and that's my ultimate goal." The 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward out of Minneapolis (Minn.) Wayzata picked Greg McDermott's program over Xavier, Wisconsin and Notre Dame after the three fought off the interest of some of the country's top programs.

Men's Basketball Opens Bahamas Trip With 108-55 Victory
Fredrick King leads CU with 15 points in return home

NASSAU, Bahamas - Bahamas native Fredrick King had 15 points to lead the Creighton men's basketball team to a 108-55 win over Raw Talent Elite in the first of three exhibition games in the Bahamas. King was one of five Bluejays in double-figures, a group that also included fellow centers Ryan Kalkbrenner (13 points) and Brock Vice (10 points, 11 rebounds). Also in doubie-digits were Mason Miller (10) and Memphis transfer Johnathan Lawson (12). Creighton made 16-of-31 three-pointers and never trailed in the victory. Creighton returns to the floor on Sunday at 10 a.m. in a game against Zalgiris, a team from Lithuania that lost 86-60 to South Carolina on Friday afternoon.

Men's Basketball Tops Lithuanian Squad, 76-62, in Bahamas
Trey Alexander led Creighton with 29 points

Trey Alexander had 29 points to lead the Creighton men's basketball team to a 76-62 win over BC Kaunas Zalgiris on Sunday morning inside the Imperial Ballroom at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas. The victory was Creighton's second in as many games during its three-game exhibition slate in the Bahamas, with the final game coming on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Central.

Another good game for experience. According to the Bluejay Facebook, Trey had 31 pts and 11 rebs, either way great to see him do well. Glad he came back.

Men's Basketball Rolls Past Club Obras in Bahamas Finale
All 15 players in uniform score as Jays finish 3-0 on trip

Mason Miller scored 16 points in the first half and Creighton opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run as the Bluejay men's basketball team defeated Club Obras, 111-89, in the third and final game of its trip to the Bahamas. All 15 players in uniform scored at least two points. The Bluejays played the game without All-BIG EAST guard Trey Alexander, who departed the Bahamas following Monday's victory to attend the Nike Skills Academy camp.

Noticed this morning on my drive into the office that a big backlit Creighton logo is being installed on the north side of the CHI Health Center, on the long wall facing Lot D. The Jays are entering their 20th year of playing there so I'm kinda surprised they didn't work this into their lease before; the inside has had lots of CU branded stuff for a long time.

CBB Recruiting Weekly: who could crack the top 50?

Bossi’s choice was Jackson McAndrew from Howard Pulley, who recently committed to Creighton live on the 247Sports Channel. Bossi cited McAndrew’s combination of size and shooting, saying “he’s arguably the best shooter in the country regardless of class.” He also noted the progression of his ability to put the ball on the floor and the fit at Creighton.

I co-signed Bossi’s selection of McAndrew as the most obvious candidate to jump into the top-50 while also noting his mobility for his size and my belief that his best basketball is still in front of him.

Creighton Signs 10-Year Extension With MECA To Continue Play at CHI Health Center Omaha
Men's Basketball team has attracted more than 5,000,000 fans in first 20 years at facility

The Creighton Men's Basketball team will continue playing at CHI Health Center Omaha for at least another decade after the University and the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority agreed to a 10-year extension that runs through the 2032-33 season.

Creighton University annually hosts commencement ceremonies inside CHI Health Center Omaha each May, and has also hosted NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament action inside the facility in 2008, 2012, 2015 and 2018.

Realistic expectations for all 47 Big East basketball transfers

Steven Ashworth, from Utah State: Starter. Fair or not, Ashworth is going to be compared to now-departed Ryan Nembhard often over the next 10 months. There’s a slight step up from the Mountain West to the Big East, but the gap is not as wide as you might think. Ashworth is just a pure sniper. He’s a good distributor who had a 25.9% assist rate and made great decisions. But Ashworth comes off pick-and-rolls looking to fire from downtown. That wasn’t necessarily Nembhard’s game. Nembhard made four 3s in a game three times in his fabulous two-year Creighton run. Ashworth had a nearly identical usage rate to Nembhard, but he made at least four 3s in 11 games last season alone.

Pick-and-roll efficiency, according to Synergy:

Ashworth: 1.137 points per possession in 117 ball screens. 23 3-pointers off pick-and-rolls.
Nembhard: 0.807 points per possession in 192 ball screens. 14 3-pointers off pick-and-rolls.
Nembhard came off screens looking to get to his midrange pull-up jumper. Ashworth has that in his bag, but he’s really hunting 3s. Ashworth has to answer the bell on the defensive end, but Creighton’s “funnel everything to Ryan Kalkbrenner” scheme certainly helps mitigate that risk. Ashworth is an almost perfect scheme fit for what Creighton wants from its point guards. The geometry of the floor that opposing defenses have to account for when both Ashworth and Scheierman are on the floor is, simply, staggering. Creighton’s floor offensively is ridiculously high with Ashworth in the mix.

Is he better than Nembhard? It’s in the realm of potential outcomes.

Isaac Traudt, from Virginia: Frontcourt rotation, potential starter. Traudt is in the mix to start at the 4 alongside Ryan Kalkbrenner, but Mason Miller likely has the inside track to the spot. Traudt can still be a real piece for Creighton right away. The redshirt freshman can stretch the floor while providing some secondary rim protection. Creighton’s defensive scheme relies on Kalkbrenner to contest so many looks in the paint which often takes him out of the play for defensive rebounds. If Traudt can team up with Baylor Scheierman to be a glass cleaner, that may be his best way to earn double-digit minutes in 2023-24.

Johnathan Lawson, from Memphis: Wing rotation. Lawson is rangy and smooth. The 6-foot-6, 190-pound wing shot 41% on 46 attempts from 3-point range and evolved into a valuable reserve for a Memphis squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Trey Alexander, Scheierman and Ashworth will command a bulk of the minutes, but Lawson projects to earn real minutes at the 2 or the 3. Lawson might be able to play the 4 in certain matchups if his decision-making improves and he can chip in on the glass. In an ideal world, Creighton has to replace Alexander next season because he had a phenomenal year and will be a first-round pick. Lawson can be a big part of Creighton’s post-Alexander outlook.

As expected, newest recruit Jackson McAndrew has jumped up in the rankings.

Currently #41 in the ESPN Top 100

Still waiting for the new 247 rankings to come out.

At this point, it is possible that he could end up being the highest ranked recruit in CU history! Even higher than Art was.

Jon Rothstein is reporting that the Big 10 and Big East are in negotiations to continue the Gavitt games beyond this season, which is currently the last.

That would be great news if they can make it happen.

As mentioned before 2024 recruit Jackson McAndrew was previously ranked #89 he is now #36, which also makes him the highest rated recruit that Creighton has ever had. Kaluma was the previous highest at #49.

Creighton men's basketball sells out season tickets for CHI Health Center, sets program record

Creighton men's basketball has already set a program record this season. Season ticket sales for the Jays' 2023-24 schedule are officially sold out, according to the program. More than 15,768 seats are already sold, including season ticket holders and seats set aside for students, which is a single-season program record. The Jays averaged 17,163 fans in their home games last season, ranking sixth nationally. The program has drawn more than 200,000 total fans in 17 of the past 18 seasons.

Loving the schedule this year. This is the first time in a while where they aren't away from home for 2 consecutive weeks in the middle of the season. The longest gap is from 12/20 Nova game until 1/6 Providence, but that is over the holidays so I am fine with that.
