Volleyball to Play Outdoor Match At Nebraska in Memorial Stadium in August

LINCOLN, Neb. - Volleyball Day in Nebraska is coming to Memorial Stadium this August.

The Omaha Volleyball team will head to Lincoln to play the University of Nebraska on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium as part of a local doubleheader celebrating the impact of volleyball on the state of Nebraska. The University of Nebraska-Kearney will play Wayne State College in an exhibition match at 4:30 p.m. to start the event. Memorial Stadium gates will open at 3:30 p.m.

That's pretty interesting. I thought it was going to be Creighton at Memorial Stadium. I'm happy for the Omaha Mavs and intrigued to see how the teams manage any wind since even a small breeze will impact a volleyball.

Volleyball Signs Erica Fava Ahead of 2023 Season

In addition to the seven newcomers signed back in November, the Omaha Volleyball team has now added one more player for the 2023 season in Erica Fava. Originally from Piacenza, Italy, Fava attended Maize South High School in Wichita, Kansas for her senior year of and was a member of the volleyball team. Helping guide her team (coincidentally also called the Mavericks) to a 38-4 record, she earned several accolades, including 2019 AVCA High School All-Region (Region , 2019 AVCTL D2 First Team, and 2019 KVA All-State Honorable Mention.

Volleyball Day in Nebraska is coming to Memorial Stadium this August. The Omaha Volleyball team will head to Lincoln to play the University of Nebraska on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium as part of a local doubleheader celebrating the impact of volleyball on the state of Nebraska. Volleyball Unveils 2023 Schedule

The Omaha Volleyball team released its 2023 Fall schedule today, featuring 10 non-conference opponents, including four Power 5 teams, and 16 Summit League matches. After an exhibition at Tulsa on August 19, the non-conference slate officially begins with the first of two home tournaments this season. Kansas, Pepperdine, and Texas A&M all come to town for two matches each from August 25-26, with the Mavericks playing Texas A&M on the 25th and Kansas on the 26th. Then, on August 30, it is Volleyball Day in Nebraska as the Mavericks take on the Huskers in Memorial Stadium in what looks to be the most attended volleyball match in history with over 90,000 fans potentially. Two days later, Omaha will head south to face Kansas State to open September in what will be their fourth consecutive Power 5 opponent.

Omaha closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule with back-to-back tournaments. The first will be at Baxter from September 7-10 and will see the Mavericks face Long Beach State (Sept. 7), Creighton (Sept. and Iowa State (Sept. 9). Afterwards, it is off to Colorado for a tournament hosted by Northern Colorado spanning September 14-16. Omaha will play UNC (Sept. 14), Wichita State (Sept. 15), and finally Bradley (Sept. 16). On to the Summit League portion of the schedule, the Mavericks kick off the first weekend at home with Kansas City (Sept. 21) and reigning conference champion South Dakota (Sept. 23) coming to town. After two matches at North Dakota (Sept. 28) and North Dakota State (Sept. 30), the Mavericks open October vs. Oral Roberts on the fifth. Omaha is then back on the road for a single match at South Dakota State on October 7 before returning to host Denver on October 12 and North Dakota two days later. This is followed by another road trip that sees the team heading south to play ORU on the 17th and then back up north to play South Dakota on the 19th.

Volleyball Ranked Third in Summit League Preseason Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - For the sixth consecutive season, the Omaha Volleyball team has been ranked third overall in the Summit League Preseason Poll. Once again, the Mavericks were also just one of three teams to earn a first-place vote in the poll. The league also announced its list of Preseason Players to Watch, with McKenna Ruch and Shayla McCormick both being named for the first time in their careers.

Last season, the Mavericks posted 20 wins and advanced to the Summit League Tournament Finals for the second consecutive year. The team went 14-4 in conference play, with only South Dakota, South Dakota State, and North Dakota State picking up victories against them. Omaha also played in the NIVC for the first time in program history, falling to Pacific in the opening round of the tournament.

OMAHA, Neb. - Facing their first of several Power 5 opponents this season, the Mavericks began their 2023 campaign with a 3-1 loss to Texas A&M on day one of the Omaha Invite presented by Sarpy County Tourism.

The Mavericks will close out the Omaha Invite tomorrow at 7 p.m. when they face Kansas.

OMAHA, Neb. - Facing one of their toughest opponents of the season, the Mavericks were defeated 3-0 by Kansas to close out the Omaha Invite presented by Sarpy County Tourism. Omaha is now 0-2 to begin the season and falls to 2-10 all-time against the 2-0 Jayhawks.

The Mavericks will be a part of history next week when they head to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the No. 5 Huskers in Memorial Stadium on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The match is projected to not only become the most attended volleyball match in history, but the most attended women's sporting event of all-time with a crowd of nearly 91,000 expected.

Mavericks Help Make History on Volleyball Day

LINCOLN, Neb. - Playing outdoors at Memorial Stadium, the Mavericks helped make history tonight as their 0-3 loss vs. No. 4 Nebraska was attended by 92,003 people, making it the most attended female sporting event in history. Omaha is now 0-3 on the season, while the Huskers improve to 4-0.

The Mavericks will head south to face Kansas State for their fourth-straight Power 5 match at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Mavericks Sweep Pioneers, Take Over First Place in Summit League

The Omaha Mavericks extend their winning streak to six matches with a clean sweep of the Denver Pioneers tonight. Entering the match, both teams held a share of first place in the Summit League. That now belongs solely to the Mavericks as they improve to 6-1 in Summit League Play.
