Well, for the first time in almost 5 Months I finally ate food from a fast food establishment the other day..

I had Chick Fli A- but it was actually healthy- I had their grilled chicken nuggets and a garden salad.. So it really “doesn’t count”, LOL..

That said, I do plan soon on eating an actual unhealthy fast food meal soon. Runza, Don & Millie’s and Bronco’s- I’m looking at you …

After basically swearing off “junk food” a couple of years ago, which for me meant not eating anything fried or loaded in unhealthy fats, my husband and I broke down for our annual walk of shame into a LJS, for their “sort of all you can eat” Sunday special. You could not order any baked or grilled fish/shrimp, or fish tacos as part of the deal, and drinks were extra. We decided to stay and eat despite those rules. I’m not sure we over did it for the $13.99 plus tax, and I wouldn’t do it again, but neither of us got sick in the middle of the night.
It wasn’t “fast food” but I did order the fish and chips at Smitty’s Garage the other night when we met friends there for dinner. That was the dinner that ended up upsetting my stomach several hours later.
So, I was 1 for 2 on surviving fried food unscathed. I don’t plan to try it again anytime soon, however. It has taken quite a while, but I finally have lost my taste for it.

Here's a helpful tip for anyone that eats out... I know if you eat out, you're bound to get sick at some point. That's why I have ginger powder at the ready. I can't tell you how many times I've woken up in the middle of the night metaphorically standing on the knifes edge of losing my cookies, but ever since I discovered ginger, I have never thrown up. It literally makes your woes vanish in 20 minutes or less. Like when you know you're gonna puke you KNOW. I've been there several times, literally teetering on the edge, so I quickly fill 4 capsules with ginger powder, knock em back and within 20 minutes, I feel like a million bucks. It's like magic. Pepto bismol and malox just don't work like that. It's freaking amazing. So if you eat out often and get sick off it sometimes, I highly recommend keeping ginger powder and some capsules in the house.

Could be. I used to eat out a LOT. Like fast food or gas station food every day, or every other day. And I'd say the luck of my draw is I'd get sick two-three times a year. It's that hopeless feeling you wake up with in the middle of the night, feeling miserable, sweating, and you know the only solution is to let it all out. I havent actually felt like that for a couple years now, assuming since I drastically cut back my fast food consumption. But I still eat fast food quite a bit. I never worry about it anymore since I know ginger will save me every time. It's like superman. I'd say since I've known about ginger, I've been on the edge of throwing up ten times, and ginger has not failed me. It's unbelievably effective. I keep trying to convince my mother to try it. Poor lady eats fast food every day and she complains of getting sick probably once every other month. I don't know why she's reluctant to try it, so shell chew up a couple malox, lay there miserable for another hour, and end up letting it all out anyway. Whereas if she just had ginger, she'd be up and running in 20 minutes. It's literally the most effective nausea and vomiting solution ever. Stops the sensation to throw up in its tracks. It starts to work almost within the first minute, and by the end of 20 minutes, you can go back to sleep like you never felt sick at all. It's amazing.

BK, Wendy's, Taco Bell and KFC are the culprits for me. Not fast food, but Big Red Keno also. Got sick there multiple times each. But ill never learn my lesson, im a garbage disposal. There are some surprising ones I never got sick off, like LJS, Arby's, McDonalds, as much as I've eaten at those places. But as I said, I used to worry about getting sick at certain places, but now I really eat with no fear. Sometimes if I'm eating at one of the culprits, I'll even preemptively take ginger, never had a problem since, and don't expect I ever would. Stuff is magical.

Luckily, I have never gotten sick from eating out that I can remember. I eat out an embarrassingly large number of meals each week. I rarely cook at home. Perhaps I have a “cast-iron stomach.”

I do know from food safety training I have taken that it is rarely the meal you think it was that got you sick. Many foodborne illnesses can take days or even weeks to incubate/multiply inside of you. So, if you are sick in the afternoon it’s likely not from that day’s lunch. It’s most likely from something you ate the previous day or even a couple of days ago. Still, it is human nature to assume it was the most recent meal you’ve eaten.

Never heard of that solution before. Ginger is a very healthy addition to anyone’s diet, I do know.
But how do you consume it when you think you are dealing with food poisoning? Sprinkle it in water and drink it? Certainly you wouldn’t want to be consuming solid food under those circumstances.

I keep bulk ginger powder and a small bag of capsules in the house just for those circumstances. I got both at Natty G's under $10, and I still have what'll probably be a lifetimes supply of nausea and vomiting eradicating ginger capsules. I believe I learned of it in the book "The Green Pharmacy". There's a ton of herbal remedies that 99% of people have never heard of, that actually work much better than what you can buy OTC. I really suggest everybody to try it. It's literally like magic. I was blown away the first time I tried it and I'll never go back to Pepto or Maloxx.

Another that works well but I have less experience with is bromelain, an enzyme in pineapple that breaks down the food in your stomach, but that's more of a specialty thing that you have to get in supplement form. So I just use ginger. You could probably do ginger tea, but I wouldn't trust my throwing up or not to that small of a dose. So I take 2g of ginger in capsules every time I get a hint of nausea, vomiting, indigestion.

Sometimes you just gotta have an unhealthy fast food or sports bar food meal, no doubt, lol..

I’ll tell you though, of those you mentioned, the one that tears my stomach up the most is Taco Bell..but I don’t learn my lesson either and still go back for more, lol..

I just had the Kings Hawaiian Pork & Slaw Sandwich from Firehouse Subs. It piqued my interest because I absolutely LOVED their Nashville Hot Brisket Sandwich from years past, and it has a similar structure

"Slow-smoked pulled pork, melted pepper jack, sweet & tangy slaw, sweet mustard sauce, and mayo on a toasted King's Hawaiian® Bun."

It is good, but it doesn't compare to the aforementioned Nashville Hot Brisket.

The Sandwich is quite sweet, doesn't have much of a smoky flavor, and has zero heat at all. I added quite a lot of smoked paprika to try and fit my taste better, but it didn't quite hit. It's just very sweet, too much for my liking. Maybe I should have added some salt to cut the sweet, but usually fast food has a ton of sodium even if you can't taste much of it, so I decided not to. Maybe I'll try it again, add a ton of paprika or cayenne (which I don't have atm), and add some "salt".

And speaking of that, I do watch my sodium intake, and I recently discovered a solution. I heard about potassium chloride, it tastes salter than sodium chloride and it helps with your potassium-sodium balance, which is supposed to be 3(K)-1(NA). I know the majority of us get nowhere near that, because your average person consumes over 3,000mg of sodium, and there's just no way we're getting 9,000 MG potassium. So to keep my homemade recipes in balance, I mixed potassium chloride with sodium chloride at a 3-1 ratio and just use it as "table salt". Nobody knows the difference, including myself. And I use less of it because potassium chloride tastes salter than sodium chloride, which further decreases my use of sodium.

Off topic, I know, but it is some important info to have. You can buy potassium chloride at probably any grocery store. Morten sells it as "NuSalt" next to the regular salt. I got my potassium chloride on Amazon from NOW nutrition.

Lucky for you, there is a Runza just east of there on 56th and also a location straight south of there on O. Runza's cheeseburgers are so much better than BK.

No question about Runza food tasting superior to BK. If you’re going to poison your body with fast food on a regular basis, it might as well taste good..

I graduated in 84 and went to Norfolk CC for one year because of a scholarship. Knew all along I was going to UNL so loaded up classes to transfer. Worked 30+ hours a week in Lincoln so I took 4.5 years to complete that is why I was a dec grad. I was an Ag Engr major so had the option of some classes on East.

Was not on a food plan but ate at the EC Union plenty.

Spent more time than I should remember at PO Pears. As an interesting side note when PO Pears closed the long-time main cook there went to work at the Univeristy and was at the EC Union and you could get a PO Pears burger there about once a month that I am told was a 100 % match to the original.

Well, I will say this about Burger King: I wish they hadn't discontinued their chicken tenders for nuggets in 2011. If it were up to me, they'd still have them. Also, they wouldn't be crown shaped. They'd still be just plain old strips. The crown shaped tenders were a little too kiddie for me.

Loved going to PO Pears for burger madness on Sunday nights. Also once I turned 21 went there on Wednesdays for I think 89 cent Longnecks. In college if I went out was almost always for a special to save money.

All this talk about BK caused me to go, and I also heard the Ghost Pepper Whopper was back. It's a banger IMO. Im gonna have as many of those as i can before they're out... But what really surprised me was the fries. They were PERFECT. And thats something you can practically never say about BK. Granted I'm on a road trip and it was the BK in Lexington, so maybe small town, slower location, more attention to detail, etc. Idk. But the fries were perfectly crispy and brown. I'm glad I got a large, which I never do, and I still wanted more. I said it before, BK can be really good.

Speaking of limited time only... I see Hardee's now has a Nashville Hot Chicken! I'm gonna have to try that!

Currently Juke's in Elkhorn has my favorite Nashville Hot Chicken.

No Burger Kings in County #1 have closed. Or in #59 for that matter.

I don't go to BK, but I drive by the one at 114th and Dodge quite often and it always looks dead...

That could be it. I mean those Burger Kings being under a different owner. The only 3 Burger Kings in Omaha I've ever been to are the ones on 108th and Mockingbird Drive, 138th and Q and 144th and West Center. Of course that was well over 30 years ago.

The one on 108th and Mockingbird Drive was closest to my old house. So I went to that one several times. The one on 138th and Q I only remember going to 2 or 3 times. Probably because my mom had to run some errands there. Not at BK of course, but at the old Northwest Fabrics and Crafts store near there. And the one on 144th and West Center we went to a couple times after shopping at ShopKo across the street. And of course the Albertsons which BK was right in front of. But that was before Oak View Mall was built.
