Murals of Nebraska

Post by Coyote »

I had cabin fever this weekend and so I did a tour of Nebraska.
These are all from Greg Holdren's work - an artist that teaches in Friend, Nebraska.

Those are great pics of murals. When she was alive, my grandma lived in Sutton, Ne and the travel to her house would take us past many of those murals on Hwy6. Memory lane....

I assume you included Crete because you're a talented photographer who caters to an audience which never misses a beat. thanks, Finn

Those are gorgeous! I especially like how the first one paints a fake window right next to a real window. I thought they were both real windows at first!

Omaha needs more murals about Omaha's history.

Thanks Finn - now if I could just finish my papers for school I'd have more time to play.

Swift - I only know of one historical mural in the Omaha area - in Florence
Does anyone know of any others?

Mark, I thought of your photography while on vacation. I could have taken better, but I will leave that up to you. I also missed a bunch, I only took pictures in the towns I stoped in.

Nice! The 01 was at the Offutt air show a few years ago.

I was at Henderson, NE today (See the Nebraska and Regional forum entry http://www.eomaha.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5142 ) and came away with this new one for my collection:

If I recall correctly, when I was in Cambridge this summer I noticed one. Didn't get a picture I don't think though.

This is in Worms, Ne, in Howard County. It's a tribute to the heritage from it's past and connection to a city in Germany by the same name.

Appropriately enough, the only business in town is a bar called "Nightcrawlers"!

Those are cool. I love murals. I've actually painted murals before in businesses and homes. But, when I was faced with possibly painting one on an exterior brick wall, I didn't do it. I need to talk to another artist before I attempt that.

Speaking of murals, have you guys seen that artist in Europe that paints 3-D looking paintings on sidewalks? There was a chain email going around featuring all of his work. They are amazing! If he paints a hole on the sidewalk, people are literally walking around the hole. His stuff looks so real. I don't know how he does it.
I can get pushed out because I'm "too much" for some. Then, an observer of me comes suddenly swooping in to "fill my shoes." People are always more accepting of the new one, because their feathers aren't truly ruffled by them. (Yawn) I can count on it every time.

Artist Sarah Rowe describes giant Omaha mural as 'joyful celebration of the Nebraska sky'

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Sarah Rowe was born in Omaha. As an artist, she's worked for more than two decades, but her current project is undeniably special. "I love working big," she said with a smile. "This is the biggest I've ever worked, which is really exciting." Her piece, called Starseeds, spans 15 silos. Some stand as tall as 125 feet, and they're still very much active at Ardent Mills. The colorful and symbolic display faces, and is visible from, Highway 75 near F Street in South Omaha.

'It's joyful, it's fun and tells a story': Morton Meadows celebrates new mural

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — Behind the Mizpah Masonic Lodge in the Morton Meadows neighborhood, you’ll find a new work of art that captures important neighborhood landmarks and historic folklore. “We wanted the mural to celebrate the community and to represent Mizpah having a place here in the community,” T.J. Brumfield, master of Mizpah Lodge #302, said.

An official unveiling event is set for Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the lodge located at 1124 S 48th Street.

New mural celebrates history and community of Omaha neighborhood

A formerly blank and boring wall now pops with color in Omaha’s Morton Meadows neighborhood. The newest addition replaces a previous piece. “We had a mural at one point on 42nd and Leavenworth, but that building was torn down,” said Morton Meadows Neighborhood Association board member Stephanie Hartig. This new piece sits on the back side of the Mizpah Masonic Lodge off 48th Street. Lodge leaders reached out to neighbors, wanting a mural of their own.

New mural unveiled at Ardent Mills

If you drive down highway 75 south near F street, you'll now notice a large mural spanning 15 silos. It's 125 feet of art inspired by the beauty found here in Nebraska. Lead artist Sarah Rowe took charge on the 'Starseeds' mural project.
The design was motivated by the mission and community of Nebraska and Ardent Mills. It's one of the countries leading flour suppliers, where the mural is located. It was also motivated to reference local indigenous storytelling. In other cities like Denver and Mankato, Minn. -- murals already span the Ardent Mills silos there. Rowe calls her work "surreal" in the moment and is overjoyed to see the vibrant colors on the mural.

Lincoln unveils new sculptures; sees some pushback

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - There’s some new art in Lincoln that’s getting some mixed reviews. With two sculptures being unveiled at 11th and G streets on Tuesday, created using sewer pipes. Lincoln’s master plan is to turn this area into an art corridor, but some people aren’t sold these new works.

“Public art is a huge community builder,” said Maggie Stucky-Ross, Lincoln Parks and Recreation. “It starts conversations that people maybe wouldn’t have otherwise. It draws in visitors people are going to come visit these pieces of art and hopefully visit the businesses around them, so it’s part of what makes Lincoln’s quality of life so strong.” White public art is supposed to be fore everyone, some aren’t exactly pleased with the sculptures that were put up. One University of Nebraska-Lincoln art major said its a stark contrast to the Hispanic shows and mural already in place at that intersection.

I watched the video to confirm, but it is too bad that the word While is shown as White in the text of the story. Not the statement that was being made at all
For the record  NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER    !!!!!!!
