Larry Johnson just announced that he’s coming to Creighton, he is the number 80 recruit in the class. Creighton is really doing a great job recruiting a strong core once again.

COLLEGE HOOPS 10 Teams That Can Win It All
Creighton

Creighton made the Elite Eight for the second time in program history last year. Even still, the Bluejays lost both Ryan Nembhard (Gonzaga) and Arthur Kaluma (Kansas State) to the portal this off-season. Coach McDermott filled one of those spots with one of the best shooters in the country – Steven Ashworth (Utah State). Throw him in a backcourt that already boasts Baylor Scheierman and Trey Alexander and you’ve got a three-headed monster offensively. Everything revolves around big man Ryan Kalkbrennar, who has the potential to put up some All-American type numbers in McDermott’s highly efficient offense. The Jays have the goods to break through and make a title run this season.

Thankfully Joel Lorenzi, the OWH writer for the Bluejays is moving on to cover the OKC Thunder. Could not stand his articles of metaphors and hyperboles. In my mind, maybe he should stick to science fiction or something, because as a sports writer, I had no clue what he talking about.

I'm probably slightly biased since I know and work with him occasionally, but follow Matt DeMarinis if you're shopping for coverage. He's the best sports writer Omaha has.

NCAA Betting Odds
Final Four
Creighton (+800 on DraftKings)

Midseason last year this was my favorite play to get to the Final Four (at a similar price), as the Bluejays got healthy. They were a few possessions away from cashing and surviving a horrible grinder against San Diego State, but alas they did not. This year, first-team all-Mountain West point guard Steven Ashworth steps in after transferring from Utah State to lead a veteran group that returns with Elite Eight experience. Ryan Kalkbrenner is an anchor as a rim-protecting, versatile center and is flanked by wings that can score and make plays. I love Creighton to build on last season's success.

Men's Basketball Ranked #8 in Preseason USA Today Coaches Poll

The Creighton University men's basketball team has earned the No. 8 spot in the preseason USA Today Coaches poll, released on Monday afternoon. It's the highest preseason ranking in the coaches poll in program history.

The Bluejays are one of four BIG EAST Conference teams represented, joining No. 5 Connecticut, No. 7 Marquette and No. 20 Villanova. Creighton will face all of those teams twice and also play against No. 24 Alabama. Other opponents that dot the Bluejay schedule and are receiving votes include St. John's and Xavier.

2023-24 CBS Sports Preseason All-America teams: College basketball's best and most talented players
2023-24 CBS Sports Preseason All-America Second Team
Ryan Kalkbrenner | Creighton | C | 7-1 | Sr.
No player in college basketball had a higher true shooting percentage last season than did Kalkbrenner, who blended an efficient scoring approach on offense with one of the most potent inside defensive presences in the sport. The two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year is coming off a career season for Creighton after averaging 15.9 points per game and figures to be a focal point for a Bluejays team that just earned its highest-ever ranking in the preseason AP Top 25 poll at No. 8. — Kyle Boone

3RD TEAM:
Trey Alexander | Creighton | G | 6-4 | Jr.
Alexander played a key role on Creighton's Elite Eight team last season. He averaged 13.6 points and 4.2 rebounds on 44.7% shooting and is a major reason why the Blue Jays are ranked No. 8 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll. — CS

Yeah me either. I could understand if they were still in the Valley, but the just made it to the Elite Eight and almost final four and he was no doubt the key piece to all that.

Sucks but at least that position has decent depth right now.

Creighton beat ISU by 3 in the their closed scrimmage this past Saturday. ISU is a good defensive test, especially for some of the newer guys on CU's roster.
