Drove to Lincoln and Back to day. Signs of fall everywhere. Its way early, but I'm assuming the drought and heat kicked it off early...

Only trees I have seen change so far are random (Assuming infected) Ash Trees.

Were still a month away from the prime fall colors. Usually around the third week in October.

yeah you're probably right. I've noticed a bit of a yellow hue to some, but nothing big. I was hoping it was a sign of an early fall, but no dice

Are you talking about sumac?

I have a Maple tree that's usually the first to go. I'd say normally it'd be much redder than it is now. It's got some patches of red, although I did start fertilizing it this year, so maybe that explains it.

But so far, I've not noticed much, if any color changes. What was the forecast for color anywho?

This year, my ornamental pear trees haven't changed at all. Usually they turn a dark redish color, but they are still completely green and full of leaves. Wonder if they will change at all or just have the leaves fall off.

That freeze last weekend certainly didn't help.

I noticed today with the wind, quite a bit of green leaves falling of trees in my immediate area.

there is a maple by our house that was nearly all green and when the freeze came through, they seemed to just suddenly fall off in the course of a day

Yeah, the freeze really hurt the fall colors this year. The early trees like the Ash and AP Ash did OK, but all the rest have been below average.

I mentioned it in the weather thread, but our Cleveland Pear trees hadn't changed colors this year, but in the past few days they finally did, which is weird after the cold weather we had around Halloween.

31st annual Maple Tree Tap teaches families about maple tree tapping and conservation



HANCOCK, Iowa — The 31st annual Maple Tree Tap happened in Hancock, Iowa. Participants were able to celebrate with a little bit of sweetness by trying fresh maple syrup. During the event, families learned about the basics of tree tapping and the conservation of silver maple trees. Families also got to tap maple trees independently and taste the syrup. Workers said they will use the sap produced today to help with their annual pancake event in September.

Jon Fanner is a ranger at the Botna Bend Park. He said that tree tapping will help them tremendously when their pancake feed comes. We'll usually produce about ten to twelve gallons of syrup and go through about five gallons at our pancake feed. So, we do get about two to 300 people to come out and eat pancakes," Fanner said. Workers say they enjoy doing this event yearly and hope to teach people about the beauty of maple trees.
