OmahaRedWing wrote: Mon Nov 13, 2023 2:26 pm Former Husker Coach Barry Collier has retired. Of all the Husker coaches going back to Moe Iba. He was probably my least favorite. Obviously didn't win, and not exactly entertaining style of play. He's viewed quite differently at Butler:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/ ... r-AA1jBYGQ
The low point for me was two Feb / March weekends in Lincoln a week apart. They were both great weather Saturdays, and the one weekend I was at the Class B Girls state champ game in the Bob. The other a top 5 ranked Texas men's team comes to Lincoln to take on the Huskers. For actual attendance, there were at least twice as many at the Girl's high school game as at the Div 1 Men's game.
At the end of his last season obviously Husker fans were ready to move on. Pederson had also ticked off many and I assume donors were not reacting well for him. Lane Grindle was hosting Husker Nightly. Kept defending not firing Collier yet because he said it might not be the right off season, and there might not be a good option left for NU to hire.

This set me off so I called in. It was getting ugly on calls (and Pederson famously had a temper for the radio guys that worked on the Husker radio network). I called in and the screen asked my name and what I wanted to talk about. I said Collier and Pederson. He asked why Pederson. I said I believed Collier needed to go, and said it was wrong to keep a coach employed for another that you had determined needed to go. Said if Pederson knew Collier was a failure, he needed to make the move, and if he couldn't find someone suitable, then obviously he needed to go too. I then said I was concerned Pederson didn't have the money for the buyout and that's why he wasn't making the move. They did not put me on the air....

I remember hearing stories that Pederson was fuming about Matt Davidson openly criticizing some of the football games on the radio. But he knew he was already on shaky ground and Davidson was still beloved and untouchable....
For getting BC on his way, the Huskers could not have gotten any luckier to have the Butler AD job open up when it did. Not a traditional time to be looking for a Head BB coach, and it never produced great results. That being said, we were better off without BC and didn't have to pay a buyout.

Yeah we were so fortunate there.

Yes it is.

I don't remember all the details, and I may be wrong at some level, but he was at a Game at PBA and was sort of introduced on the big screen. really got a storage reception from the crowd.
Maybe it was Butler in to play the Jays, and the Husker played the night before, and he was there for the Husker game.
Maybe someone members it better, but I remember the reception he got since I was there, and it was just strange.

NU 38, Rider 29, very unimpressive. Keisei seems to be forcing his shot.

Listen to much of it on the Radio. A win is a win but didn't take control at all.

Interesting I watched the start of the game on tv, then listened in car to rest of first half. Didn’t get to do either for 2nd half.

Nice to see how every game we have a different leading scorer.

Not Husker basketball related but did anybody see the late game last night, Kansas vs Kentucky? It was fantastic. KU was up 9-0 to start. Then Kansas trailed by double digits in the first half (7 at halftime), came back to tie it up and take a lead, only to fall behind by as many as 14. Then KU rallied late for the win. Crazy swings and highly entertaining.

The Huskers looked better in the second half than they did in the first.

4-0 First time since 2018, I believe. Now on to Siuox Fall to play Oregon St on Sat and then back home on Monday to take on Duquesne

EDIT:
FYI, the Oregon St game is on Peacock on Saturday at 3 PM.

A little bit of "rust," but overall looked good.

This team is still finding itself. I think that there will be more players playing substantial minutes with this group than typical. Don't see a lot of times any player will have over 35 Min a game without OT.

I look forward to watching on Sat how they look away from home and against a program that has a name that is recognized.

Jamarques Lawrence seems to be settling in at point guard. That was my biggest concern coming into the season.

So before the game on Wednesday, Ramel Lloyd Jr's Dad essentially tweeted out that he was playing that night. Then he was a late scratch. Will be interesting to see if he just jumped the gate a bit or if a more serious setback occurred.

We should learn more if he plays on Saturday in Sioux Falls.

Thanks for the info. So far the shooting has been a little worse than I was expecting, however that could have been unrealistic expectations on my part. Hopefully we see a 20 win season this year with either NIT or NCAA tournament.

With no conference games yet to be played, Nebraska is de facto leading the Big Ten as the only team to have played 4 games (and won them).

Yeah will be interesting to see how strong the outside shooting is this year. Potential is there.

I also agree, really need to get to at least NIT this year.

Plus through football there's a lot of Nebraska fans in South Dakota.
