I didn’t catch the game last night but I was wondering what has happened to Trey since the start of the season, first 4 games he was averaging around 20 pts and since then his scoring has dropped drastically off. As I watched one of the recent previous games, he looked hesitant while he was playing.

No idea what is happening with Trey. Like you mentioned, he looked great to start the season, even almost had that triple-double against Iowa. And with the exception of a few good games against weaker competition he hasn't been shooting well at all. I think he is pressing. With all the shooters on the team, he shouldn't feel that much weight on his shoulders to carry the load. Sure, he should be the go to guy when we need a bucket but every since those games in KC, he hasn't looked good.

I chose a great game to attend. First Jays game since the Pandemic. Crowd and energy was fantastic. Loved coach Mac getting the crowd pumped in the first half after Kalk went down..Thankful he came back to play the entire 2nd half because HE was the difference last night..

The new lighting at the arena is awesome too..

Great win and confidence builder for the Jays leading to Wednesday’s home game with Villanova…

Tomorrow is the night they retire Doug’s jersey. Should be a great crowd there even for a midweek 8 pm game since they have been telling everyone to be there early for the 7:40 retirement ceremony.

Terrible game offensively for the Jays. Said it s few times now, but they are back to the old Jays days of living and dying by the 3. No one could hit a shot tonight and there were several opportunities to win the game.

Better rest up and get ready for the game in Milwaukee in 10 days

It’s becoming increasingly evident to me this Jays team lacks athleticism..

If they’re not hitting their 3’s, especially against a talented athletic team, they struggle..

Losing R2 has really hurt..

Mac really needs to focus on targeting players with real athletic talent- the Jays need more than the maybe 2 or 3 they have on this current roster to really contend in the Big East…

Yep I was thinking the same thing recently. When I first moved to Omaha back in 2002, I started following the Jays and they had the same problem back then - they loved to shoot the 3 and if they didn’t make them they had very little else. Watching last night, there were times they looked totally lost on the floor and it didn’t seem like anyone wanted to step up. Trey is still ‘off’, Baylor didn’t hit a three and even though he scored - it wasn’t his typical play, Ashworth started out hitting some and then he disappeared.. if Kalk isn’t in the game, the other teams take it into the paint and very little stopping them.

I've said it a few times at this point, and last night was another example: there is only a plan A with this squad. If they aren't able to run uptempo, pass quick in transition, and/or hit threes they are hosed. And even running uptempo for an entire game seems to be a struggle as we saw with Iowa.

I think it's deeper than a "live and die by the three" issue. They cannot adjust for when their opponent slows the game down and disrupts their preferred flow; the whole system breaks down. Pass quality takes a nose dive and is no longer snappy, pick & rolls are discombobulated, and the turnover monster shows up. Not to mention the threes they do attempt look increasingly more desperate as the game goes along. And it all stems from something as painfully simple as slowing the game down by their opponent.

Yeah it’s mind boggling how with all the practices and experience they have that nothing can be done about it. This team doesn’t have the Khyri Thomas or Damien Jefferson tough players and it shows.

Still amazed how with how well Kalk has been playing after rolling his ankle so badly but I also think Coach Mac needs to give the bench some more min to keep the starters fresh. Everyone knows that tired legs make shooting that much more difficult. King comes in and has one not so great play and is taken out 45 sec later. Josiah Dotzler has barely seen the floor at all and you can’t tell me that with his size and athleticism he is going to be any worse than Ashworth.

This loss surprised me more than the other 2. The energy from the pregame, plus Villanova not having Justin Moore.

And along with R2, the athleticism and playmaking ability they brought to the Jays on the court; especially Khyri and R2. Damien was just one tough hombre..

Coach Mac really needs to identify and bring more of those type players back to the program.. The 2020 Jays team and even last years team, would NOT have lost that home game to Villanova…

Continued the turnover trend with season high 18 and lost by 5 to Marquette. Not a bad loss but once again a double digit lead turned into a loss.

No. 22 Men's Basketball Loses Nailbiter at No. 10 Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- After making just 3-of-20 three-pointers in the first half, No. 10 Marquette made six triples and outrebounded CU 22-9 after the break to post a 72-67 win over No. 22 Creighton in a battle of two teams picked atop the BIG EAST preseason poll. The game was played in front of a Fiserv Forum record for a Marquette contest of 18,086.
Creighton (9-4) suffered its second consecutive BIG EAST loss to open league play, while Marquette improved to 11-3 (2-1 BIG EAST) while tying a BIG EAST record with its 20th straight home win in league play.

Hopefully Creighton can get things moving back into the W column tonight. Completely winnable, but we'll see if their gremlins show up and get the best of them.

Yeah Cooley being the new coach of Georgetown should help, but as you mentioned, this should be a winnable game for the Jays. Granted, they can't turn it over 16 times like they have the past few games.

Second Half Run Helps Men's Basketball Notch First BIG EAST Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A 26-7 run early in the second half helped Creighton pick up its first BIG EAST win of the season, 77-60, at Georgetown on Tuesday night. Creighton (10-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) scored on 14 of its first 17 possessions of the second half, scoring more points in the first 11 minutes (30) than it did in the entire first half (28).

CU played a great 2nd half and built the lead all the way up to 24 at one point. Good to see.

I blame myself. They were only up 4 at half when I was watching. Then I left to Runza for temp Tuesday and they got up by 24. Walked into house and CU gave up 10-0 run. Haha

This years team is so strange. They seem to have a hard time going early on and the few games they have been good in the first half, they let up and lose all focus and give up big leads (Nova and Marquette).

Although I am not too concerned with those 2 losses or even the Colorado St loss since they are 13-1 now. The UNLV is the only really bad loss. Nova is 2-0 in the conference and prob going to be 3-0 after tonight. It sucks to have 4 losses so far, but this team isn't that far off. They just need to gel a little bit better, but that shouldn't be needed this far into the season.

I would really love to see Ashworth finally pick it up. Although he still shot poorly last night, several were in and out and he also had a season high 7 assts.

If this team is to make any sort of run, Ashworth needs to play a lot better.

Creighton should win big today at home. Not only did Providence lose this week to Seton Hall. But they lost top player Bryce Hopkins early in the second to a season ending ACL tear.

Still need to close out games better. Jays get up by a good margin and habitually seem to let up and get sloppy, letting their opponents catch up.
