Creighton women upset by Mississippi State in first round of NCAA Tournament

South Bend, Ind. (KPTM) — Lauren Jensen scored 22 points but it wasn't enough as the 6-seed Creighton women's basketball team was upset by 11-seed Mississippi State 81-66 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday evening.



The Bluejays never led as they shot just 37% from the field for the entire game. The Bulldogs were led by JerKaila Jordan's 20 points, while Jessika Carter scored 14 and Anatasia Hayes pitched in with 12. The loss puts CU's final record for the season at 22-10.

The Creighton Bluejays women’s basketball team will be coming to Sioux Falls on Nov. 6 to take on the North Dakota State Bison in a non-conference matchup at the Sanford Pentagon.

Women's Basketball Announces Non-Conference Schedule

Known for consistently challenging themselves during non-conference play, Creighton women's basketball and head coach Jim Flanery reached the mark once more with the slate for 2023-24. The Bluejays host South Dakota, Green Bay, Northern Iowa and South Dakota in the latter months of 2023. Creighton meanwhile travels to Nebraska, Wyoming and Drake. The final three non-conference contests takes the Bluejays to neutral ground for battles with North Dakota State, Georgia Tech and Michigan State.

The Bluejays have one exhibition contest to get the squad rolling on as Creighton hosts Nebraska-Kearney on Monday, Oct. 30th in D.J. Sokol Arena at 6:00 pm. Tipping off the regular season is the first neutral site matchup as the Bluejays face North Dakota State at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Monday, Nov. 6. Creighton returns home to Omaha to take on South Dakota on Friday, Nov. 10 in D.J. Sokol Arena, followed by a home contest with Green Bay on Thursday, Nov. 16. The annual meeting with Nebraska comes in Lincoln this season on Sunday, Nov. 19.

Women's Basketball Unveils Complete 2023-24 Schedule

Creighton Women's Basketball's full 2023-24 schedule, featuring seven games on national television was announced on Thursday, September 28. The Bluejays will be featured twice on Fox, twice on CBSSN, with two more games on FS1 and once on SNY. The BIG EAST schedule as well as TV times are the primary additions as the Bluejays' non-conference schedule was released in August.

NEW YORK, NY. (WOWT) - When asked about Creighton women’s basketball at Big East Media Day, UConn head coach Geno Auriemma opened with a light-hearted dig at the senior-heavy Bluejays. “Isn’t there a limit on how many years you can spend in college?” The Hall of Famer deadpanned. “I think it’s four of his five starters—they’ve been in Omaha longer than the College World Series. Every time I look up those guys are in the starting lineup.” Lauren Jensen, Morgan Maly, Emma Ronsiek and Molly Mogensen represent the aforementioned starters—all true-seniors. Jensen, Maly and Ronsiek were all named to the Preseason All-Big East Team. The Bluejays were ranked second in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll only behind the Huskies and were No. 22 in the Preseason Top 25. After having his fun, Auriemma quickly transitioned to high praise for the Bluejays.

Morgan Maly tied her career-high with 30 points and added 10 rebounds as the No. 22 Creighton women's basketball team never trailed in an 81-55 win over South Dakota on Friday morning on Kids Day at D.J. Sokol Arena. All five starters scored in double-figures for the Bluejays, who improved to 2-0 on the young season and still has not trailed.

Lincoln, Neb. -- After a frenetic first quarter that yielded 51 combined points, the 22nd ranked Creighton Women's Basketball team outlasted Nebraska 79-74 in a well played game on both sides on Sunday, November 19. The win pushed the Bluejays to 3-1 on the season, while Nebraska fell to 3-1 overall.

Arena Record Crowd Sees #12 UConn Take Down #21 Women's Basketball

The No. 21 Creighton women's basketball team suffered its first BIG EAST home loss, falling to No. 12 UConn 94-50 in front of the largest women's basketball crowd (2,374) in D.J. Sokol Arena history. UConn improved to 11-3 (3-0 BIG EAST) with the win, while Creighton dropped to 10-3 (1-2 BIG EAST) with the defeat. Both of CU's league losses have come against Top 25 competition.

#24 Women’s Basketball Ends Season
With 67-63 Loss to UCLA in NCAA Second Round

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Despite 52 combined points from seniors Lauren Jensen, Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek, the Creighton women's basketball season came to an end on Monday, March 25 as the Bluejays fell to No. 6 UCLA, 67-63 in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Creighton women’s basketball advisor Connie Yori announces retirement



After over three-and-a-half decades as a coach, with 26 of those as head coach, Creighton women’s basketball program advisor Connie Yori announced Friday she will retire prior to the start of next season. Yori began as a player for the Bluejays from 1982 to 1986 and was inducted into the Creighton Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992. She is just one of two players to have their number hanging above D.J. Sokol Arena. Yori graduated as Creighton’s leading scorer with 2,010 points, still ranked as third all-time -- along with remaining in the top-10 in scoring average, rebounding, assists, steals, field goals made and percentage, and free throws made.

Yori’s coaching career has earned her a 475-306 record, from her days as an assistant at Creighton from 1986-1989 to two years at Loras College, before returning to Creighton as head coach for a decade -- followed by 14 seasons at Nebraska-Lincoln and the last seven seasons as a Creighton program advisor.
