Negative reviews are part of being in business. Why is that newsworthy?

Block 16 owner accused the customer of being racist which then caused the customer to delete the bad review. Reddit goes onto claim it has happened multiple times.

Not sure about redit, but on Twitter, some of the bad reviews in the past I have seen them actually do a screen shot and attach it to their post so there is proof of the customer saying the bad things.

I didn’t know that anyone reviewed restaurants on Reddit. I’m not a close follower of the platform. I typically use Yelp and Trip Advisor, or Google. And I seldom even read “reviews” left by people who haven’t posted at least 20-30 prior reviews. Certainly not someone with 2 total postings.

My only visit to Block16 didn't warrant a review one way or the other. It wasn't good enough to go back nor to tell others to stay away. Overpriced for what you get.

I haven't eaten at Block 16 in years. Mostly because it's not even remotely convenient for me to do so based on where I live and work now. When I did eat there (~2013 or so) I remember liking it, but I wasn't blown away by it. Sorry, I just don't worship at the alter of the church that Block 16 has become.

What makes them the worst hours in Omaha?

No mater what restaurant I have worked at, Sunday's Suck! The customers are cranky and staff never wants to be there.(Neighborhood sports bars don't count). I don't blame them one bit for being closed on Sundays. Also, any restaurants I have worked at, the traffic patterns on Sundays are odd and inconsistent, making it hard for a restaurant to ever get in to a normal rhythm on Sundays.

As far as no evening hours on M-W, I am guessing there just isn't the population in that part of downtown to support evening hours those 3 days?

I think they are mainly interested in the downtown lunch crowd. Without a doubt one of DT’s best lunch time restaurants. The Restaurant business is notorious for its long hours, looks like they are maybe sacrificing some income for a better lifestyle. Good for them. An outstanding restaurant. Monday evenings are probably slow anyway.

You mean only being open during the times when most people eat? I dunno. Probably a business decision of some sort.

Never good to see posts like this, but its a hard time of year for restaurants.

Okay. But don’t restaurant owners all realize that business falls off a cliff after New Year’s revelers have put away their horns and gone home? Add to the normal slowdown that happens everywhere in January the record and near record cold weather that is underway right now, and all the warnings to stay home and off the roads, what do they expect? Once the weather “warms” to being simply crummy as opposed to literally dangerous people will start to venture out. Valentine’s Day is one of the biggest restaurants days of the year and it will be here soon.

This website has had some pretty bad restaurant takes over the years. Perhaps the dumbest of which betray the staggering ignorance to restaurant economics. How about Block 16 charge twice as much to make up for how tiny their margins are? I’m sure you’ll be the first to applaud their commitment to “stocking away for lean times”.
Also, a busy day can’t possibly make up for weeks of anemic business. Everyone in the industry prepares for a January slowdown. But if someone took a giant bite out of your January pay checks, you wouldn’t be happy no matter how much you knew it was coming.
They are excellent operators and adept at handling business interruptions. But know this idiotic commentary is misleading.
