Huskers defeats Hoosiers in first game of 2024

In the first game of 2024, the Huskers dominated Indiana.

Nice win last night. Of course they were on regular BTN and I had to coach hockey. Followed on my phone. I don't think they ever trailed. After the game on the radio both Kent and Jake were very complimentary on the crowd.

I am hopeful but cautious about this team. They look great, they are winning games, but the other side of the coin says they got blasted by Creighton (who is having a less than stellar year compared to expectations). They need a few more games against ranked opponents to get a better grade on where this team really stands. Fortunately, we get that in a back to back scenario now with Wisconsin and Purdue.

Well, they hadn’t really played much competition up to that point and it was before Creighton started playing poorly. It seems at least they might finally be putting everything together and getting over the hump for a good run this year. Hoiberg looks to be buying himself more time in Lincoln.

Nebraska was fortunate to get Mast back from surgery so fast. The announcers said Indiana had the 3rd tallest rotation in the country.

The competition has been far from the top of the pack, but they are still winning and, in many cases, winning the way they should. As has already been stated, the jury is still out, but I am hopeful that this is the team that turns the corner. NCAA tourney, too soon to tell. NIT, I hope that is the lowest expectation at this point.

One checkpoint is the KenPom ranking, which takes a lot of the competition variables into account. As of now, 12/5/24, The Huskers are #49 in this ranking. ( The Jays are 16 in the same update) Wisconson, where the Husker play on Sat is # 13

I only got to watch some of the beginning. I did get to listen a bit in first half and the end. I heard the announcers say it was Nebraska's best game yet for 3 pointers, and yet still never felt like we were in it. So yeah, Wisconsin was definitely the best team we faced so far.

I watched the complete WIS game. IT was a loss but we played well. WIS played lights out.

I see the huskers are only a 7 1/2 point dog for the game tomorrow night. The season still has a ton of potential

Wisconsin's run as Nebraska's best opponent this season looks to be a short one. #1 Purdue is up next. Purdue arrived last night so it's game on.

First of two men's basketball games on Peacock this season, the other is against Ohio State on the 23rd. Plus you have the Chiefs playoff game Saturday night.

Curious on crowd size tonight. Obviously Nebraska draws a large good size of their crowds from outside Lincoln. Hopefully almost all can still make it. We could use as much of a home crowd advantage as possible.

Husker fans storm the court after Nebraska basketball’s 88-72 win over No. 1 ranked Purdue

Nebraska fans stormed the court at Pinnacle Bank Arena as the Huskers won 88-72 over No. 1 ranked Purdue. It's NU's first win over a No. 1 ranked team since 1982.

I would estimate that it was about 80% full. Even with the 8 PM start, the crowd was late arriving. With the 8PM start, the cold, and the weather, I felt it was a good #. There is a good number that travels a distance for the Husker BB games, and I can understand why some didn't go.

Yeah Gary Sharp said the roads were bad going into Lincoln last night depending the direction you were coming from. The crowd looked good on TV, and absolutely sounded fantastic!

I have been a season ticket holder since 1999 when moving back to Nebr and when in collage went to almost every game. Maybe miss 2 home games a year on average so I have been to a lot of games

In the last 10 years since PBA this is a code second to no sit Sunday against Wisconsin. That will be hard to top because it was 100% + full and as it is noted not a single team person sat other than during a time out. Last night was close.

Prior to PBA there were great games but they kind of blend together at some level. Some are remembered by me for other reasons for seeing superstars and top 5 teams play in person but the Huskers were not in the game. Still good memories. But not for the same reasons.

Some great times watching Jonny Ore and his Iowa st teams or norm Stewart’s teams too.

Bottom line this was a top 5 for sure and prob #2 in person. 🧍 know I will not forget it

You've seen some great ones. For me it was as a student in 88 when we upset KU on freshman Beau Reid's jumper as time expired. KU led by at least 15 at one point in the second half. I think I was wearing one of Danny Nee's Dead Dog Alley t shirts (from a verbal shot Norman Stewart took at us) in the student section on the floor.

I was at that game too. I graduated in Dec of 89. As a student the group I went with always got to the game soon enough to sit first or second row under the basket that huskers shot in the second half. A few years ago I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and found some old game footage from that area and saw myself in a half dozen or so clips before I moved on to looking at other stuff

I'm amazed Nebraska actually pulled off such an upset. They're now 13-3. I hope they can keep this momentum up for the rest of the season. If so, they'll have a very real chance of getting invited to the Big Dance in March.

The amazing part to me is that it was not a fluke. The Huskers played a complete game and weathered a couple of Purdue runs. It wasn't because Purdue had a terrible/off night, either. For Tue night, the Huskers were the better team. I'm not kidding myself that they are better overall, just for the one night they were.

Whatever the first season was where you got the Dead Dog shirts with the student tickets, my roommate and I always tried to sit behind the basket (varied on end depending on which seats were available, so we probably sat close to you at some of the games), and we'd wear yellow cardigans over them. We did it so our folks in Omaha could easily see us on the Raycom broadcasts.....So if in any of those pics you see yellow, that's us.

Yeah it definitely wasn't a fluke. NU played well the whole game. Purdue did make a run in the second half, but Nebraska answered. Played energetic d, hit key shots and free throws. Never seemed rattled or out of control. Very satisfying game to watch.

If I am being honest, I thought Nebraska was going to lose once Purdue got it to 51-50 in the second half. They cut the lead to 1 so fast. Even though Nebraska had played well up to that point. Then of course Nebraska answered and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way. Impressive.

3,000 will prob be generous. They have had a few games this year with only 4-5,000 in attendance with good weather. In fact, they have had less than 10,000 fans in 6 out of 9 home games so far this year and another with 10,000 even. I make fun of Iowa all the time bc they constantly say how good their fans are yet they never show up like Creighton or Nebraska fans so unless it’s wrestling or Caitlin clark

Iowa 41-36 over Nebraska at halftime. Iowa has led the entire time, including double digits very early.
