Good luck with that though. I liked The Dam Bar down there, but the city basically forced them to close citing environmental impact and wanting to return it to a more park like use. They don't seem to want much in the way of commercial development directly on the riverfront and no bars/restaurants.

It was an awesome spot to sit on a warm summer day. Drink a beer, listen to some rock music, and watch the river flow by. But, the city wants it to be green space. There is no true entertainment destination in that area anymore. We used to have Anchor Inn, and for a moment the whole Rick's Boatyard fiasco. Now, they only want it to be green space and museums it seems.

Wasn't there an issue with the requirements that were placed when the original property owners transferred it to the city? They had to remove it, or the ground would revert back. Maybe I am completely mixing it with something else but that is what comes to mind.

The group that owns the bar says land use restrictions prompted the city not to renew the lease. As a result, 20 staff members are now out of the job. "The city informed us that the family that gifted the land, the Millers, no longer wanted a liquor and music venue on Miller's Landing Park. And because of that, they were no longer willing to let us operate our business there," said Philip Murante, the CEO at Cutchall Management Company, which owns the business. Murante says they had tried working with Omaha this past year to keep the bar going, along with the adjacent River City Star boat tours.

The city tells KETV they extended the lease a year ago to help with the transition, but now their goal is to return Miller's Landing to the original vision of its donors, the Miller family, as an unstructured greenspace. "The River City Star is important for the city. It's been around for over 20 years. It gets a great reception. And hopefully, we can find a place to put it that serves the community," said Murante. Searching for another location, however, has turned up dry so far. Murante says the choices are limited for a riverboat, which would need to be docked somewhere else for now. News of the closure sent dozens to post on social media, many expressing their sorrow. "As a company we're disappointed. Our customers really enjoy the venue, our staff enjoys the venue, we have a lot of time operating it. It's an exciting place to be," said Murante. It is not over yet though. The Dam Grill and Bar will host their last weekend of live music, food and drinks starting on Friday. The final riverboat cruises are slated for next weekend. Murante says the city may make the property into a welcome center, but it is nothing official yet.

I was feeling kind of worried that with NEX and the Good Life legislation recently back in the news that there is chance this lands there. But Yates apparently showed people a map of the proposed NEX Village development. No one mentioned a soccer stadium. Additionally, announcement is being made at Omaha City Hall. That's means it's a location within City limits, at the very least.

That crossed my mind as well, but I think it is more that he's the one that's been sponsoring the legislation for state financing etc. He's also termed out this year and expected to run for mayor so his interests might not be as district-specific now.

But, if it is a hint, his district is bordered on the west by 72nd, on the east by JFK expressway, south by Harrison, and north roughly Center st (but varies).

As others have said, with Stothert and McDonnell both being there, and Union saying they want a downtown stadium, it sounds like it’ll be somewhere we’ll be pleased with.

I know the Gallup area is most likely getting sold off for development. I would be surprised if this was the use though.

It's fairly out of the way in terms of immediate parking, there's very little offerings in terms of local restaurants/bars for pre/postgame activities, the Millers kicked out the little bar where the River City Star used to be which makes me skeptical they would tolerate something much bigger and louder to interfere with their "vision" of the adjacent Miller's Landing.
