Baseball Adds Eight Transfers for 2024 Season

Creighton Baseball head coach Ed Servais announced the addition of eight players that are joining the Bluejay program as transfers for the 2024 season. Joining the Creighton program next season will be;

Duke Coborn (RHP)—St. Thomas,
Teddy Deters (OF/INF)—Xavier,
Will MacLean (INF/OF)—UMASS-Amherst,
Drew Metzdorf (INF)—UMASS-Boston,
Parker Primeaux (RHP)—Centenary College,
Chad Saner Jr (RHP)—Illinois Springfield,
Matt Scherrman (INF)—UW Oshkosh and
Sam Vomhof (UTL/RHP)—UW Whitewater.

The guys sit down with Former Creighton Baseball Pitcher and Current Papillion-La Vista South Titans Pitching Coach John Oltman, talking about how a young farm boy from Beatrice, Nebraska, takes what he has learned about hard work, dedication, and determination and turns it into a playing career and teaching career. Knowing when your time is up in a sport or activity isn't easy to accept when you love the game, but what's the next step once you make the transition? John takes the guys through his decision-making during some of the most challenging times, but he is now teaching young men and kids how to become the player they want to be.

Creighton Baseball 2024 Schedule Announced

Creighton Baseball head coach Ed Servais announced the 2024 Creighton Baseball schedule on Monday, November 6, highlighted by a road series with perennial power Stanford and a home midweek series with Coastal Carolina. The Bluejays' season begins in Baltimore, Maryland as Creighton faces Coppin State in a three-game set from February 16-18. The following two weekends takes the Bluejays to Sugar Land, Texas for the Sugar Land Classic (Hosted by Houston Christian) and the Battle at the Ballpark. In the Sugar Land Classic (Feb. 23-25) Creighton will face Houston Christian, Lamar and McNeese. The following weekend in the Battle at the Ballpark the Bluejays take on Air Force, Louisiana Tech and Army.

The BIG EAST Championship returns to Mason, Ohio from May 22-25.

Cancellieri and Grace Earn Preseason All-BIG EAST,
Bluejays Slotted Fourth in Preseason Poll

Seniors Jack Grace and Dominic Cancellieri represented Creighton Baseball on the 2024 Preseason All-BIG EAST team, announced Tuesday, December 19. In addition the BIG EAST Baseball Coaches slotted Creighton to finish fourth in preseason poll, finishing in a tie with Georgetown.

UConn Favored In #BIGEASTbase Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The Connecticut Huskies, the 2023 BIG EAST regular-season champion, were picked as the favorite in the BIG EAST Baseball Preseason Coaches’ Poll, which was announced by the Conference on Tuesday. UConn’s graduate right-handed pitcher Stephen Quigley was selected as the BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year, while UConn graduate outfielder Jake Studley locked up Preseason Player of the Year accolades. The Huskies enter the 2024 campaign after winning 44 games and securing an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. Overall, three Huskies land on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, with senior left-handed pitcher Garrett Coe joining unanimous selections Studley and Quigley.

Picked to finish second in the league standings, the Xavier Musketeers led the way with four student-athletes selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Last season, the Musketeers captured the BIG EAST Championship and matched the program record for wins in a season with 39. Seton Hall collected 35 points and has been selected to finish third in 2024. The Pirates boast three players to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team after a 13-8 conference display a season ago. Separated by just half a game in the 2023 league standings, Creighton and Georgetown both received 29 votes in the 2024 poll. Capping conference play 10-10, Georgetown will look to earn its third straight trip to Prasco Park in May, landing two players on the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Also with a pair of Preseason All-BIG EAST Team members, Creighton capped 2023 with a 10-11 mark in conference play.

Late Rally Lifts Creighton Baseball to 9-6 Win Over Coppin State

Hanover, Md. -- Playing the first game of a pair of seven inning contests, the Bluejays rallied from a 5-1 deficit after five frames to claim a 9-6 win in eight innings in the first half of a doubleheader with Coppin State on Sunday, February 18. The victory pushed the Bluejays to 2-0 on the season, while the Eagles fell to 0-2.

Creighton and Coppin State are underway in the series finale at Joe Cannon Stadium.

Bluejay Baseball Falls to Louisiana Tech, 12-0

Sugar Land, Texas -- Suffering its first loss of the 2024 season, Creighton Baseball fell to Louisiana Tech 12-0 in the second game for each squad at the Battle at the Ballpark Tournament on Saturday, March 2. Following Saturday's results Creighton moved to 6-1 on the season, while La Tech climbed to 9-0.

The Bluejays conclude the Battle at the Ballpark Tournament on Sunday, March 3 at 12:00 p.m. (CT) against Army.

Baseball Complete Sweep of Charleston Southern,
Taking Double Dip on Saturday

North Charleston, S.C. -- Creighton Baseball completed a sweep of the road series at Charleston Southern by claiming both halves of a doubleheader on Saturday, March 30. The Bluejays took the opening game 10-7, then snagged the nightcap 6-3. Following Saturday's results the Bluejays are 20-4 on the season, while Charleston Southern fell to 12-16 on the season.

Omaha, Neb. -- After building a 7-1 lead in the top of the eighth, Bluejay Baseball hung on to post a 7-6 win over Omaha on Tuesday, April 9. The win pushed Creighton to 24-5 on the season, while Omaha fell to 8-21.

The Bluejays head out for their first road BIG EAST series of the season as Creighton will open its series at Xavier on Friday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m.

Cincinnati, Ohio -- After picking up the game in the top of the seventh on Saturday, April 13, Creighton Baseball picked up a 10-8 win over Xavier in the series opener. The win lifted the Bluejays to 26-5 on the season and 3-1 in BIG EAST action, while Xavier fell to 15-18 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Hess The Hero As Baseball Completes Midweek Sweep of #13 Coastal Carolina

OMAHA, Neb. -- Kyle Hess tripled home the tying runs in the eighth, then drove home the winning run in the 10th inning as the Creighton Baseball team continued its midweek mastery with a 5-4 walk-off win in 10 innings over No. 13 Coastal Carolina on Wednesday. The Bluejays are now 30-9 on the season and 10-0 in midweek games. Coastal Carolina, which was making its first return to Omaha since winning the 2016 College World Series, fell to 27-14 on the spring after suffering a second straight setback.

Creighton is back in action on Friday at 6 p.m. when it opens a home series against Georgetown.

Absolutely. Servais is such an underrated coach. When I used to coach baseball I went to several of his coaching clinics. I am hoping we here soon on Creighton's new baseball park breaking ground.
