Good as he should. With his physical as Providence plays, it is embarrassing, that they only had six fouls in the entire second half and overtime combined.

The Jays lose another close one, 87–91 in OT

Men's Basketball Falls in Overtime at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Creighton senior Baylor Scheierman became the first men's player in NCAA Division I history to surpass 2,000 career points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 assists and 300 three-pointers, but it wasn't enough as Providence topped Creighton in overtime at Amica Mutual Pavilion for the second straight year, 91-87.

I hate to keep bringing it up, but something has to be done about the poor officiating...refs should not be able to pick and choose which games they want to call tightly. Either its a foul all the time or none of the time. I know with live action it would be extremely hard to call, but the game last night was clearly physical with very few calls.

One way to combat that would be for Creighton to get tougher and fight back if they aren't going to make the calls. That is why I wish that this year's team had a Khyri Thomas on it. He was much more physical.

A lot of people argue that one or two bad calls don't determine the outcome of the game, but with last night's game, Ashworth took a charge when he was set and the Prov player bulldozed him while he was outside the circle. Very clear charge, instead the ref called it on Ashworth and that was his 2nd which meant he didn't play the rest of the half.

Then at the end of regulation, Prov had fouls to give and were trying to foul Ashworth. His arm was grabbed and no call so he drove to the lane and put up a shot. The defender came down right on top of him which was another clear foul. Should have been 2 FTs with 2 sec left. Instead no call was made and the game went to OT.

The last couple games have been very heavy on the "let them play" until they weren't. Consistency is key.

Ashworth drove to the hoop with five seconds left. Providence intentionally tried to foul with no call and then Ashworth shot the ball and got hammered but no call.

Now the game is going to overtime
John Bishop was going on about the calls on the radio too...
JB crys about call ALL THE TIME

Assessing Creighton's Defensive Slump

Creighton dropped consecutive games for the first time since the 0-2 start to Big East play and gave up 190 points in the process. Jacob Padilla and Mike Sautter diagnosed what went wrong for the Bluejays against Butler and Providence and what it means moving forward.

I wouldn't call today a bounceback game. Feels more of a "better figure this sh1t out before the BE & NCAA tourneys" game.

#19 Men's Basketball Wins at Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Ryan Kalkbrenner had 28 points on 12-of-14 shooting as No. 19 Creighton completed a regular-season sweep of Xavier on Saturday with a 78-71 win in front of a sellout crowd of 10,555 at Cintas Center. Creighton snapped a two-game losing streak to up its record to 17-7 on the year and 8-5 in BIG EAST play, while Xavier slipped to 13-11 (7-6 BIG EAST) with the rare home loss.

Great win today. Started out down 15-6 at one point and then turned it around and lead by 20 at one point and somehow almost coughed that up but hit FTs at the end and held on.

Jays big 4 all flirted with double doubles and Baylor almost had a triple double.

Looks like a good game. Creighton’s 3 percentage was only 25%. I see a bigger concern right now, at this point of the season, the Big 4 starting seniors are almost all averaging close to 40 min a game recently. Not much relief - hope they don’t start wearing down and have avoid injuries .

Just another example of the poor officiating in the big East , by the way this was on Baylor’s dunk that he made and wasn’t called a foul:

It would be great if tomorrow the Jays can put Georgetown away early and get the starters some rest....unfortunately that has rarely been the case this year.

On a side note, I wish $1 beer night was for the UConn game.

The crowd will be so pumped at CHI, they could charge
$15 a beer and feel no pocket pain..

$1.00 beers for UConn would be unreal for sure…

That was a surprise to me as well. But I’ll take #17 from #19. The Jays last 2 losses were by one point at home to a Butler team that played the perfect game..and on the road at Providence in OT against 2 players who played out of their minds..

If there is such a thing as “quality losses” I’d say those qualify…

I agree I was just surprised when they fell so much last week after that loss but then this week they moved up but definitely Providence on the road is a quality loss and we beat Xavier on the road which is a great win

Still lots of tickets for tonight's game available on Ticketmaster. Also, lots of $5 tickets (plus fees) available on secondary market.

$5 tickets plus $1 beers before the game, could be a cheap night to watch the Jays.

Scheierman's Triple-Double Propels #17 Creighton to 94-72 Win Over Georgetown

OMAHA, Neb. -- Baylor Scheierman delivered the first triple-double in program history featuring points, rebounds and assists to lead No. 17 Creighton to a 94-72 win over Georgetown on Tuesday, February 13. The victory lifted the Bluejays to 18-7 on the season and 9-5 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown fell to 8-16 overall and 1-12 in conference play.

Scheierman began the contest as a distributor, dishing out seven assists in the opening half, while he scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half. The Nebraska native's triple-double was the fourth in program history, but the first since Benoit Benjamin had 29 points, 12 rebounds and 12 blocks at Bradley, on Feb. 2, 1985.

Creighton basketball's Baylor Scheierman makes history again with first traditional triple-double in program history

Greg McDermott got to say hello to old friend Ed Cooley in his first year at Georgetown on Tuesday as the 17th-ranked Jays took care of business against the Hoyas. It was fan appreciation night at CHI Health Center. The Jays took control with a 10-0 run. Trey Alexander came in with three of his 16 first-half points, and Alexander went four for four from a distance.

The defense turned to offense in another massive play. The block by Ryan Kalkbrenner resulted in a bucket down low for Jasen Green, and the Jays were up 19 at the break. Baylor Scheierman was the big story of the night. He had the first triple-double for Creighton since Benoit Benjamin did it back in 1985.

I have read several people talking about it on the Bluejay forum, but I don't think he would. I am not sure that he would want to start over at this stage in his career. Obviously things have changed since the last time this spot was open and Holtman took it.

With the amt of city and fan support, I think he would be crazy to leave. Not that this matters, but he is also set to break Altman's wins record either this year or next.

On a side note, can't believe they are firing Holtman, although looking at his record, he pretty much has gone down every year.

Iowa on the other hand has basically the same record with Francis McCaffrey and they signed him to an extension a few years ago. Crazy how different schools can be. NE is like this with football as well. Iowa is just content with being mediocre. Any other school and McCaffrey would have been gone long ago with his record and antics.

Like I say all the time, we are lucky to have McDermott and hope admin does what ever he asks to keep him here.

I don’t think the new Iowa AD will let things stagnate too much longer with McCaffrey, besides his days coaching his sons is coming to an end. Same goes for Ferintz.

Probably one of the better things to happen to Iowa athletics is the new AD.
