I just love the wonderful weather we get here. Never getting Minneapolis cold or Houston hot.
People have to learn how to embrace all 4 seasons and realize that all 4 seasons are beautiful and give us a yearly reset cycle.

If people from Minneapolis are known to embrace the outdoors in their hostile weather, then that doesn't mean we shouldn't enjoy our climate.

I do not envy the much hotter Summers in Kansas City or Tulsa OK; Omaha weather is the sweet spot. Nothing speaks boring, on a climate that never changes and gets old fast.

I also love the climate here. That is something I find to be the best attribute about living here. I enjoy the winter, chasing storms, the systems that roll in.

To me, that is a peak part of living.

Forgot to mention I really enjoyed that rain we got last night. It was kind of a surprise to me since I've not been paying attention to this moderate forecast we've had lately. I enjoyed it enough to open the windows to get that fresh rain smell in the house. Eppley only reported .01", but I'm fairly certain I got more than that. As they were talking, the further west, the more likely you got more.

It definitely feels like spring is in the air. I cannot recall an earlier date where I noted that it felt like spring. We're usually having to wait til mid-late March for that. But here we are early February.

I enjoyed it as well. And now thinking about it, since there's virtually no trace of winter left, I think I would prefer it not snow again now. I know thats not likely to happen, but looking out at my garden, the soil looks workable, and it probably really is.

I don't quite want to use the word unprecedented, but it probably is correct, as I really do not know if it ever happened that as of February 8th, the ground isn't frozen. It's nuts.

Looks like there's a system moving through Wednesday night and will affect our temps for a few days following.

Should feel like winter on Friday with a high struggling to reach 30 and what should be a light blanket of snow.

It topped 60 degrees in much of Eastern Nebraska on Valentines Day. Such a sweet gift, and fewer calories than a box of chocolates.

Managed to get up to 61 where I am at one point and stuck around in the 60s until from around 2:30 to 4:30.

It's amazing that we have not had a high below freezing this entire February. That may change Friday though.

Pretty windy yesterday evening around 9pm. As a cold front entered the area. Gust probably 25-30 mph. Back to winter for a few days.

Confidence shot up quite a bit for snow tonight. Now 80% sure about 1-2". I'm alright with it. It's still winter and this'll be gone in no time. Should be a cute little snow and I still love winter ambiance.

The question is, will that much stick now that we have had warmer weather and the ground is warmer.

Good point. Now that you mentioned it, I have some pretty serious doubts that it will stick. Also looks like for a short time, some of it may come down as rain.

The models really haven't shown any snow all day and I see the NWS Experimental Forecast agrees.

It was slick all the way from Gretna to Fremont this morning. It did "stick," but not even an inch at this point.

As I got to the Hyw 77 Bypass exit off of 275 on the S side of town, there was a van lying on its side in the median. There was a State Patrol car along the side, lights flashing, and the officer getting out of his car. He was S-bound.

There was a big logo on the top of the van, and the top was all I could really see. Based on what I could see while still paying attention to the road, I "think" it might have been a medical transport vehicle, not an ambulance.

Is our “traditional winter weather” over and done with for the season, 1 month early? Actually almost 2 months early as practically every day since the last week of January has been much warmer than historical averages.

It's certainly looking more and more like it. Very mild weather all through the 10 day. I expect a March cold blitz, based on recent years. But we'll see.

I think I remember one year we had a really cold April, maybe 5 years ago or so, it even snowed in Mid -April which is getting late for Omaha. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see that again this year.

Yeah, I remember that. Our latest snow and freeze ever was on May 2nd. I too wouldn't be surprised.

I believe mother nature is a reservoir and when we have a nice warm and dry winter, we'll pay for it with a wet and cool spring. I know this weather now is popular, but if I had control, I'd happily brave a bitter cold and snowy winter in exchange for a good, moderate, predictable, and on time spring.

We're human and we have tools to know better, but we're animals too. When I look out the window and go outside, spring is here. The squirrels, robins, geese, fish... every animal and plant in Omaha thinks it's time to get started.

I actually did till my garden today, which is mind blowing. I never ever had the chance to even consider it any earlier than mid-late April. I figured I might as well do it now while the ground is fairly dry. My intuition tells me it's good to do it now cause knowing my luck, itll be prohibitively wet later on. Planted some f-it lettuce and radishes as an experiment for this profoundly warm winter.

Looks like we still have some "winter" weather on the way before February ends. Decent chance we will get a shot of cold and at least some snow sometime in the last couple of days of February (maybe around the 28th). It's obviously a long way out yet so plenty of time for things to change and regardless, it doesn't look like it'll last long if it does happen.

Otherwise nice weather between now and then with a few 60s this week, mid-60s possibly this weekend and "maybe" our first 70s into early next week.

Either way, tough to complain. :)

Quite a temperature gradient thus upcoming week. Upper 70s on Monday and down to the teens on Wednesday morning, then right back up to mid 50s, 60s and 70s.

Unfortunately it seems like most all the moisture has been taken out of the forecast. I was hoping for at least a decent rain.

February 2024 is on track to be one of the 3 warmest Februarys since record keeping began some 150 years ago.
It seems that the winter of 2023-2024 felt like it lasted about 10 days, with late fall weather lasting into early January, and early spring weather kicking in in late January. Of course mid January contained enough of a punch to make most everyone happy to see an early spring.
