BRA-VO! Some of the best recent pictures to hit the forum!!
What a place for a CLUB!...theaters. CHEESECAKE FACTORY!! 8)
A great mixed use opportunity, and by the nature of what it is, has high cache value for Omaha

Its a given that a transit center will materialize someday and too bad its not going here!!! Isn't it too late?...Like trying to save the UP Buillding after the demolition crew is all geared up!

Although,..."World-Class Restaurants (Maybe better than CF?) 8) 8) -Fine dining and grand entertaining without leaving The Burlington Station building." -- sounds good...But how MUCH restaurant? With all that other neat stuff, there may not be much room left. Is there any 'grand entertaining' if you're not invited to someone's unit ?
Done well, it could be spectacular, but it sounds like a rare 'public landmark' opportunity is being lost....Meanwhile the place HAS just sat there deteriorating. :?

This is going to be interesting to watch!

How about this building being a high-end club. Also part of it
being live music venue downtown replacing the Ranch bowl?

Glad progress is being made on saving the building, but it's still the wrong uses.

its an interesting project, but I agree with Streets. I agree that this doesn't seem like the best use for the building. Enjoy the pictures now, because one's its done no one will enjoy except the few people who live there. It's nice its being cleaned up and not neglected anymore, but there are still plenty of other opportunies for re-hab DT.

To me this building (if not a transportation center again), screams for retail throughout the whole thing. It would be a great extension from the OM with nice restaurants and higher end retail. I could see a brewery or a nice wine shop, galleries, a coffee shop and etc.

Since the "right uses" have not worked for about 50 years, I welcome the redevelopment!

I think I scewed up my 'reader' trying to install an upgrade.....so I'm lost as to what's the latest....

There was speculation expressed that the project as proposed by ('Jamison' ?) was half-baked, and/or going no where. Has anything been confirmed? Permit Applications? Financing in place, etc.?

I'm lost as to what phase of development this project is in?

Having those banners hanging on the building makes me realize what a beautiful museum that building would make.

Just think, Omaha Art Intitute/Omaha Intermodal Transit Hub.

I've always thought it would be cool to rebuild the bridge between the Burlington Station and the Durham and turn that station into an extension of the Durham Western Heritage Museum.

To be honest the current project sure isn’t my 1st or even 5th idea for that building, I say even after all the praise I gave the project. I like the museum extension idea but imagine a modern glass skywalk between those monuments… naa most likely a tunnel. Speaking of detracting from their beauty its just a shame they are cutting up the main room.

This one is really a head scratcher. We all really would like to see SOMETHING happening in this beautiful, historic building, but earlier and continued posts suggest this particular use is either wrong, misguided, underfunded, or just plain wrong. The idea of an addition to the Western Heritage Museum is intruiging, but I'm sure the powers-that-be at the museum must have explored this possiblity and turned it down. Is it too late for a different direction?

I guess you're right. Thats a shame. Hopefully someday I can buy one of these condos so I can get to see its beauty, since the rest of this city will no longer get to be a part of it. What a shame. But hey, good for the tiny fraction of the population who will actually live there.

Better that a "tiny fraction" enjoy it then no one at all, eh?

No.

The more we point out the error of the uses, the more likely the developer is to reconsider :) .

The WH brings gives some pub to the Burlington Station project.

"A plan to renovate downtown Omaha's long-vacant Burlington train station is moving forward with 60 percent of the commercial space spoken for and buyers for three of its 15 condominiums, the developer said."

Myriel "My" Boes said construction of a new restaurant over the tracks is to begin this spring and be completed in 10 months. She said the renovation would be completed by summer 2007.

After reading this I tried to go to Alley Poyner Architects site to see some plans. Not there. Tried to find the Burlington site - couldn't remember the address so I went to Eric's Burlington page http://www.geocities.com/burlingtonstation/ - at least I think it's Zephyr's - and it has been hijacked by SPSF!

What's up with that?

Cute babe in the third picture though.

Also, this pub may have been created because the of the recent brunch at My Boes house. I was invited, but couldn't make.

That was it! Thanks.

I had an e-mail invite also and wish I could have been there too.

I was really looking for a tenants list. I am really glad that this historic building will have tenants and that it will be renovated but I still wish that having Amtrak and the Culinary Institute as main the tenants had happened.

Looks like the project is gaining more and more momentum..

From the Tuesday W-H:

' plan to renovate downtown Omaha's long-vacant Burlington train station is moving forward with 60 percent of the commercial space spoken for and buyers for three of its 15 condominiums, the developer said Monday.

Developer Myriel Boes displays a rendering by Alley Poyner Architecture of the renovated Burlington station. An 80-seat restaurant run by a former New York City chef is planned over the railroad tracks.

The City Planning Board could consider tax-increment financing for the project at 1001 S. 10th St. as soon as March.

Myriel "My" Boes said construction of a new restaurant over the tracks is to begin this spring and be completed in 10 months. She said the renovation would be completed by summer 2007.

She said 80 people attended a Sunday open house and brunch prepared by the former New York City chef who will open the 80-seat restaurant.

Boes and son Jamison Hiner are working with David and Brad Underwood to develop the project. Alley Poyner Architecture is preparing the drawings, and Weitz Co. is the general contractor.'..

Nice Jamie..I personally never doubted that this project would eventually become a reality..

..Ciao..LiO....Peace
Go Cowboys!

That pretty much sums up a large part of what is wrong with this project.

I'm glad to see this long neglected piece of architectural history is at last just going to be utilized.

I am curious though... if someone sitting at a restaurant table over these regularly travelled tracks... isn't going to feel a little something passing beneath them.
