Sounds like Juwan Gary is a gametime decision. Even when he does return, from what Coach Hoiberg said yesterday, they will gradually ease him back in, playing time-wise.

Nebraska came from behind and beat Wisconsin 80-72. Incredible! If this doesn't get them into the big dance in March, I don't know what will.

Down by 19 also.
The first Husker lead in the game was with less than 1 Min left.
Missed a shot at the end of reg to tie it but locked in in OT to take it home

Huskers upset Badgers in overtime during their second meeting of the season
The last time a top 10 team came to Lincoln this season, it was the same result.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024
Here are a couple of facts I saw on Facebook that you have probably seen, but just in case:
Prior to last night, Wisconsin Mens BB was 120- 0 all-time when leading by 15 or more at 1/2 time. NOW 120-1 !!!!
All Teams, when ranked in the top 10 in the AP poll at the time of the game, had won the last 1,458 times when leading by 16 or more points at 1/2
The last loss by an AP top 10 team when leading by 16 + at the half was #6 Kentucky losing on Jan 5, 2002, to Mississippi State.

What a crazy fun fantastic game. The way that thing was playing out I was convinced we were going to be blown out at PBA. Then the come back. It was an interesting one in that it came in bits and pieces. At times I thought we were running out of gas and wouldn't have enough for the finish. And OT. Honestly thought we'd lose in OT when we didn't hit the shot late to win it in regulation.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024
Should have mentioned earlier, 1620 was playing a clip from Fred on Wednesday. He was talking about NU Athletics analytics department and all the data they provide. Was speaking how valuable it is. He went on to to say it even gave recommendations on how much exertion the Huskers should do at practice to optimize performance in games. Said he through those recommendations in the trash and was pushing the team far beyond it in several practices this week. Wanted them to be tougher. Was thinking about this info as the Huskers mounted their comeback.

We obviously know from discussions after the Purdue win that Nebraska not only knocked off a numnber 1 ranked team then but had done it 3 additional times previously. Anyone know if prior to this season, has Nebraska knocked off 2 top 6 ranked teams in the same season? Nee era maybe? I don't remember it though if it happened.

I was busy as well. Only have seen parts of it. It almost seems like the final score was closer than the game actually was.nebugeater wrote: Thu Feb 08, 2024 6:51 am Reading some summaries this AM I am almost glad I was not able to watch it last night.

That is what I understand, too. The final score did not indicate how badly they were beaten. THe turnover margin was crazy. IT doesn't look like they got beat because of shot %Greg S wrote: Thu Feb 08, 2024 9:43 amI was busy as well. Only have seen parts of it. This loss was disappointing coming off the very strong showing at #12 Illinois. I really appreciated what Coach Hoiberg said after that game. He said when Nebraska rebounds well and takes care of the ball they win. If they do one of the two it's a close game (Illinois) and when they don't do either, they lose big.

Nebraska just won 79-59. This season, they've done so great at home. But on the road, they just seem to fall on their heads.

Great 24 hours for PBA and Nebraska this weekend. Nebraska men with the sellout Saturday night and control and dominate Michigan the entire game. Sunday the Nebraska women with another sellout Sunday and the monster 4th quarter comeback (and don't let Clark set the record in Lincoln).

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024
The Michigan game Saturday was my first time to PBA in over 5 years. The combination of coaching hockey and busy with my boys activities outside of hockey (one played through high school, he graduated last year) had kept me from being able to go.
I had forgot how much fun the games were. And concessions were reasonable. PBA wasn't the only great part. The weather so nice, the Railyard was hopping too. In a few years when I quit coaching, I might have to look into season tickets.

I got an email from NU last week on the final four home basketball games, the Michigan game was a sell out, the upcoming game against Penn State is sold out and both the Minnesota and Rutgers games were listed as limited tickets left. Would be great to finish the year with 4 sell outs.

Will be awesome if those last 2 games become sellouts. Not exactly marquee games.

I remember Greg McDermott in serious consideration the last time it was open, and if I remember correctly, he had an offer.Greg S wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 11:43 am Ohio State will be an attractive job. Almost unlimited resources.
I was supprised last night how much radio talk there was about him being a serious candidate this time. On 1620, including Biship, thethe Jay's PbP guy they kept alluding the fact that the environment may be different this time if they come for him. They hinted that things between the current AD and Greg are nowhere near what he had with Rasmussen. A lot of smoke being hinted at. For those that follow the Jays closer than me, is that a real deal?

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2023-2024
I don't know on how McDermott is with new AD. He was really really close with Ras. I saw McDermott mentioned a couple times for the opening. I know they have a great recruiting class coming in but it's hard not imagine Creighton taking a step back next year after losing Kalkbrenner, Alexander and Sheierman. Not to mention Nembhard and Kaluma (who is thriving at K State).nebugeater wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 1:06 pmI remember Greg McDermott in serious consideration the last time it was open, and if I remember correctly, he had an offer.Greg S wrote: Thu Feb 15, 2024 11:43 am Ohio State will be an attractive job. That being said they seem more interested in Sean Miller of the Big East (Xavier). Also seeing a lot of mentions for Lamont Paris of South Carolina and Nate Oats at Alabama.

I think Juwan Howard is next. Dead man walking. Will be interesting to see if Iowa keeps McCaffrey. Only thing that may save him is all the attention on the women's team and Caitlin Clark. I am amazed at the patience of the Iowa fan base through the years. Can't relate to them at all.

Yeah the Juwan experiment went downhill quick and should be over much like Penny Hardaway here in Memphis.Greg S wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2024 10:59 am I think Juwan Howard is next. Dead man walking. Believe me, the Iowa fan base has not been patient. We’ve been wanting him and ferintz gone for years now.

Haha, I say that all the time...For football I understand, they have had some decent seasons, although its about to get much, much tougher with the additional schools next year and Iowa not getting their cupcake schedule they get every year.Greg S wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2024 10:59 am I think Juwan Howard is next. For basketball, Fran is better than Lickliter, their previous coach, but as a fan base I would be embarrassed by his antics long ago. I can't believe all the extensions that he has gotten, but all of that was under the previous AD who is gone now. Clearly their fanbase is growing apathetic, they have only been averaging around 9,700 per game and only about 5,000 are showing each game, pretty pathetic.

And the majority of McCaffrey's antics never make it to TV coverage. Going to the Husker / Iowa game every time it is Lincoln, it is crazy what he does and even crazier what he gets away with.skinzfan23 wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2024 12:49 pmHaha, I say that all the time...For football I understand, they have had some decent seasons, although its about to get much, much tougher with the additional schools next year and Iowa not getting their cupcake schedule they get every year.Greg S wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2024 10:59 am I think Juwan Howard is next. Having lived in Cedar Rapids for over 10 Years pre Husker in the B1G Iowa was my B1G team. Still cannot route against them. I cannot see how he has lasted.
On a side note, being at the First home game for Iowa in IC after Chris Street was tragically lost in the car accident is one of the most memorable sports events I have attended,
On to Football, I can see how Ferentz has done just enough to hang on. I think the rope is really short with the new AD. A good thing.

As for Fran, I don’t really care about the antics too much, but when you continually lose the first game of the tournament every year, that’s what wears thin and then the antics become much more magnified.nebugeater wrote: Fri Feb 16, 2024 12:56 pm On to Football, I can see how Ferentz has done just enough to hang on. It’s going to be very interesting the next couple/few years in Iowa for this AD. The spotlight will be shining bright on her with all the coaches she’s going to have to replace.

Yeah his act is almost embarrassing. When he gets angry at the refs and does the whole stare down thing. I think I am close to him in age and would have a hard time laughing at him trying to intimidate me. Props to the refs for not laughing.
