Frankie Fidler Among the Nation's Best

To say Frankie Fidler is having an incredible season is an understatement. The 6-7 forward from Bellevue, Neb. is not only having the best season of his career, but one of the best in program history. As of January 30, Fidler currently ranks 11th in all of NCAA Division I in points scored at 440, as well as being in the top 50 in points per game with 19.1 ppg. Bolstering these numbers is Fidler's elite presence at the charity stripe as he places fourth in the nation in free throws made with 152 and is 36th in FT% at .879.

Omaha’s Frankie Fidler making strides in junior campaign,
has eyes set on NCAA Tournament berth

Sitting at third in the Summit League in average points per game with 19.2, Omaha forward Frankie Fidler is starting to see some return on investment on those countless hours clocked in the gym during the offseason. “This is the time I want to be playing at my best and that’s what I train for in the offseason,” said Fidler on his performance so far this season. “I’m glad it’s paying off right now.” While Omaha men’s basketball head coach Chris Crutchfield didn’t recruit Fidler, this being only Crutchfield’s second year running the program, he says it has been a blessing having inherited Fidler.

“The first day I got the job we walked down the steps for workouts and I made him lift up his shirt,” said Crutchfield recalling the first time he met Fidler. “I wanted to see his abs, right? He pulled it up kinda weird looking at me. I was like ‘Oh, that has to change for you to become a great basketball player.’ And he kinda looked at me like ‘This guy is crazy.’ And now he understood what I meant when I said that he just has to get his body right.”

Omaha has been a wild card this year. Proven to be able to stand toe to toe with the top teams in the league...and drop games to the worst teams in the league as well. I actually like them being in this half of the bracket. It sets up decently. competitive games against North Dakota and either UMKC or Denver. Avoid St. Thomas, NDSU, and SDSU until the finals. I could see UNO going all the way to the finals...or bowing out in round one.

Wish they really stuck it to Denver too... Swept in Hockey a couple months ago, season ending loss in basketball today.

Oh well, try again next year.
