Getting Around: Nine intersections to get traffic signals

Drivers in growing areas of Douglas County will get help next year from new traffic signals.

The county hopes to install traffic lights at nine intersections by late summer 2005 or sooner.

The county usually installs traffic signals at several intersections per year. The increase is largely the result of residential development, school construction and traffic growth.

The nine intersections currently have either four-way stop signs, pedestrian signals or no traffic controls.

The total cost of the lights, including engineering work, will run about $750,000.

Sanitary and improvement districts will help cover the cost.

A sanitary and improvement district is a taxing district created to build and pay for public improvements, such as streets and sewers, in new residential or commercial areas outside city limits.

Here are the intersections:

• 180th and Harrison Streets

• 192nd and Q Streets

• 192nd and Pacific Streets

• 180th and Jefferson Streets

• 156th and Taylor Streets

• 156th and Corby Streets

• 180th and Marcy Streets (could be installed in the next two weeks)

• 156th and Fort Streets

• 120th Street and Military Road

180th and Harrison doesn't need one, the 4-way stop is never busy when I'm going to/leaving work

Agreed, projectman, but also I think its pretty dangrous at night time.

Very dangerous at night especially without street lights. I've almost run right through those stop signs.
