Omaha still has a chance at Home Ice in the playoffs. Going in to this final weekend, they can finish anywhere between 4th and 6th. The Baxter better be rocking this weekend.

Interview With Ice Breaker Rep,
North Dakota Clash

On this episode of the #mavpuckcast — Bridget and Jon discuss the Omaha Maverick Hockey team’s recent sweep of the Miami (OH) RedHawks — includes their picks for “Player of the Week.” They look at the NCHC’s “messy middle” in the conference standings as the regular season comes to an exciting finish. They also look at the Pairwise Rankings (the ranking system that replicates the formula used to determine the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament at-large bids). Bridget offers an update on Omaha’s trip to the 2024 Ice Breaker Tournament this coming October — includes an interview with Sports Nevada USA CEO Jon Killoran. They wrap up the episode with their analysis and predictions for UNO’s final series of the regular season against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at Baxter Arena.

Home ice is dicey at best. Have to sweep NoDak in regulation, (No overtimes or shootouts.) then have Denver sweep Colorado College in a home-and-home.

And sixth is a very real possibility, because you have to presume that Western Michigan is going to sweep Miami at home...so they'll most likely have 37 points. UNO will need to claim at least three points (getting to 37) to secure fifth place.

Tonight will be the 5th straight sellout. Could be one of the largest crowds ever at Baxter. UNO started selling standing room only tickets for certain lower bowl sections at $22 at 4 PM today.

I would hope. They were knocking on the door before this weekend, I would hope they can move up a spot or two and get in.

I think if selections were today we’d be in. We need to hope there are no big underdogs that win their conference tournaments over the next couple weeks.

If they can win 2/3 in Colorado Springs, i think they are in for sure.

Win 1/3, I'd guess even money and depends on what happens in the other tourneys.

Get swept at CC and it gets really dicey.

Have never won a NCHC Playoff series. Makes me nervous right now.

All the polls today have Omaha at least 2 spots behind CC, who Omaha swept three weeks ago, but CC just took one from Denver last weekend. Its going to be tough. Out in the Spring at 6000' above sea level...

PairWise Rankings has Omaha and CC tied for 11th.

Should be a good matchup, just hope Omaha comes out on the right end of it...

Omaha scored its first 2 goals 29 seconds apart. Was following this game during Nebraska game. Really thought we had it in the bag when up 3-0. Hopefully pull it out in OT.

This is awesome, and it has elevated them in Pairwise to the point where they have essentially clinched the 5th NCAA Tournament berth in program history.

This has been especially gratifying. There are corners of the fanbase who had become downright ugly towards the hockey side of the program, almost inexplicably. I'd seen tweets, much of the year, that were almost veiled calls for Gabinets head, which I didn't understand at all especially since this was from prominent boosters who have always claimed to be supporters of the players and coaches. It has been especially gratifying watching those people backpeddle and apologize last night into this morning. This season has been a fun ride for those of us that never really gave up on the program, even if we have our moments of frustration in knowing the limitations they have compared to their competition in the NCHC.

Either way, on to St. Paul and on to NCAA's!

Will be tough to beat NoDak 4 out of 5 times on the year. But, on the other hand, they've taken 3 of 4 already. One can either say ND is due or UNO continues their winning against the Hawks.

The Mavericks secured their spot at the NCHC Frozen Faceoff for the first time ever. While the tournament is a success for the team, for two players, it's also an opportunity to compete in their hometown.
