The Omaha City Council has given the go-ahead for a third Costco in Omaha.
Would of been nice to have the 3rd Costco in Council Bluffs in the Manawa subdivision that Menards took over along i80 A Costco there would have served CB, downtown and midtown and the 3rd Costco would not have been too close to the other 2 Costcos

Though maybe the incentives were not there for Costco or the demographics necessary to support a Costco there.
Home sweet, home...Omaha!

Now the only part of 180th and Maple without movement is northwest.
Drove by yesterday, that's a huge pile of stripings!

Agenda from the Commissioners meeting had a link to this doc: https://commissioners.douglascounty-ne. ... _II_G1.pdf

Last page of that doc is the image below which basically just shows the roadway that was included in the original plans.

I personally think the most exciting part about the Gas Station is the extra lanes like the La Vista location, but with an extra "column" of pumps in the plans:

Image

Image

So based on the existing locations and the most recent documents for the new location from December:

Existing Dodge Gas Station: 6 Lanes with 2 pump "columns" = 12 Pumps
Existing La Vista Gas Station: 8 Lanes with 2 pump "columns" = 16 Pumps
Proposed 180th & Maple Gas Station: 8 lanes with 3 pump "columns" = 24 Pumps

Knowing this - I am now not nearly as worried about the lines for pumps as I once was.

How is the experience with the one on Dodge now that they finally reconfigured the parking lot after the city forced them to do so?

It certainly doesn't back up like it used to. There is some confusion with two entrances to the pump area as to which incoming lane should go to which side (north/south). Otherwise, it's pretty smooth and a better traffic flow entering Costco overall.

One of the rare times that a city forced a private business into doing something they adamantly refused to do and resulted in a better outcome for everyone. Was really bizarre that Costco wouldn't do that on its own.

They seem to be moving quickly on this one.

Well, there's not a lot of architecture to the typical warehouse store. 4 pre-fab concrete walls, a roof, a floor, and an asphalt parking lot. That about sums it up. So, I would imagine a rapid build is fairly standard for these once they "pull the trigger."

Apparently, the rumor going around the wifes gossip Facebook pages is that they are shooting for a July grand opening.

It looks like they have quite a bit of work to do before then, but as was mentioned before, there is not much to these warehouse buildings.

What are all of the soccer moms to the south going to do with all the in/out traffic at the new Costco?

I always find humor in the stories I read about people not wanting commercial developments happening on commercial land. It really shouldn't be a surprise when they build or buy a home in these areas... it's pretty obvious.

I would trust your source over mine. The West Omaha Moms Facebook group (real thing) is probably not a reliable source. I have noticed that they are going quickly, and it looks like 90% of the framing is complete.

My completly speculitve guess based on nothing but what I see when I drive by and having a little bit of a clue on what it takes to build is that they will be open late fall / early winter. Try to be open before the 2024 Holiday season.

With the roof trussing going up in Mid-February, its not going to be too long. Minimal interior finishing and warehouse shelving doesn't take too long.

When I saw this post back in February, I just assumed all the walls are up, but its still mostly wide open.

Today I noticed about 20% of the roof was on and inside you could see them installing all the coolant lines for the refrigerators and freezers. Didn't really notice any electrical started inside the building.

Costco sparing no expense getting A/C units on the roof. (Really no idea if this is more or less expensive than getting a crane on site. But it was cool to see!)

I have been involved in lining up and using a chopper to set equipment. It was a few years ago, for sure. At that time, the closest provider of that type of service was out of St Louis. I have no idea if that has changed.

It all factors into what size of crane you need to get the weight you need to the location. I was involved in using a crane two years ago to set up new HVAC on an existing building that had been added around the original structure that needed upgrades. The crane was a day to set up, a day to tear down. It took about 4- 6 hours of work, and the crane cost alone was around $130,000. From the photo, I am guessing this unit is about the same size as we moved. We moved 6 into place and removed six existing ones. We never looked at choppers that I know of. The contractor scheduled the crane. The crane also had another job in Omaha so there was some discount factored in, in getting it here. since it was not local

Thanks for the info nebugeater. I knew cranes weren't cheap but wow! And yeah I was thinking about what a pain it must be to set up to use for a relatively short period of time compared to just flying the chopper in and out.

When walmart at 168th an maple was built, they also used a helicopter to set the A/C units in place. somewhere I have video of that.

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The city is proposing annexing property around the new Costco, set to open next month in Northwest Omaha.

The 32 acres of property — consisting of has an estimated value of $7.7 million with a 10-year cost/revenue projections at $14.4 million.

Located just outside the city limits in an area referenced as “Whispering Ridge West,” the land consists of six lots and two outlots. No one currently resides within the property.

The ordinance gets its first reading at City Council on Tuesday; it’s listed as item No. 71. The public hearing is set for the June 25 council meeting. If approved, which could happen as early as July 16, the ordinance would go into effect 15 days later.

Earlier this week, the Douglas County Comissioners approved planns to add more traffic signs in the area.

The new store has been in the works since plans were approved by the Omaha City Council in October 2022.

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — We’re less than a month from the new Costco opening up in Northwest Omaha. We spoke to neighbors and city officials about what this means for the area as the city moves forward with annexation plans.

The proposal went through the planning board on June 5th and will go through city council in the coming weeks.
Neighbors we talked to aren't opposed to the annexation and are excited to have another option for bulk shopping.
The store is set to open July 12.

Too bad they couldn't have put an agreement in place to make the gas station a Mega Saver. Burner phones, booze and CBD items should have been a higher priority. What was Costco thinking... this is prime real estate.
