'Godega' opens in downtown

KETV's Josh Kristianto is at the newly opened Godega to preview what the bodega-style market has to offer the downtown area.

The old market is looking pretty empty these days with all these recent restaurants closing. Hopefully that means some new blood is coming to pump some new energy into the area. Noticed a few new places today.

The old Hive is turning into a new Organic Coffee Shop/Dispensary called "Plant'D Farma Wellness Boutique" and is under construction now.

The old French underground is now open as a new wine bar called MonCave

My understanding is that a Chinese restaurant started by Flagship is going into Wheatfields and the crepe restaurant at the food hall at Aksarben is adding a second location where Cupcake Omaha used to be.

Flagship must be rolling in the dough. All of their food is expensive regardless of their locations and they seem to stay very busy. I do enjoy Blue and Roja on occasion but neither of them are a place I feel we need to go to even every few months.

Flagship Commons, IMO, is not a good fit for Westroads... but I've thought that since the first and only time we tried to eat there. My girls got a Ramen bowl of sorts for about $15/each, I think my wife tried the Blue-type sushi (not sure why they didn't simply call it another Baby Blue) and I can't even remember what I got. But none of us were impressed and we dropped almost $100 with no booze. Plus that was pre-pandemic. It just blows my mind that ppl love that concept (compared to the old food court with nationally-recognized concepts). I am grateful they dropped a Subway and Cane's upstairs - even though they're not gourmet at least I know what to expect and what I'm getting.

If those guys at Flagship can make these places work then obviously they know a lot more about it than I do, which is probably why I'm typing my response right now :)

I went on to the Flagship website to see if the Chinese concept has been opened in another market, but I didn't see anything. I did see they have a bowling concept somewhere... weird to see that keeps popping back up.

I know when I was working near TD, I would go there for lunch once or twice a week. Good food, not that different in price than some restaurants (99% of the time I went to the wraps place). It was nice with coworkers when we couldn't agree on a spot quick enough.

That will be great to see the Wheatfields space filled again. They really need to do something to liven and brighten that corner up a bit.

I agree that it’s sad to see the boarded up restaurants in the OM, and any new replacement restaurants would be an improvement. Another Asian place would be appreciated, especially Chinese. I really hope that someone takes over the Stokes restaurant location and opens another restaurant. With the Moxy hotel next door it would seem like a no brainer. Same with the long empty restaurant space directly across 12th Street from the Moxy. But what do I know? I just eat at them.

It’s a little outside of the old market but the old temporary library at 1410 Howard st is now a store called creative culture. They do diy classes and it’s also a milkshake bar. Looks like they have a few other stores spread across the US and are opening one in Belieze.

There was a temporary library over by the old Patrick's market until the downtown branch 1401 opened. I believe there was very little effort put in to the temporary space compared to the 1401 location.

Was it the temp location or the new one that needed more work than they initially thought?

Does anyone know how long this sign has been up? I am surprised the mercer folks would let a national chain in old market.

If you watch the Grow Omaha Un-Cut from the past weekend. According to Trenton, they have been paying rent in that bay for 5 years. Apparently they are looking for a franchisee to run it.

Patio railing has gone up on the corner of 11th and Howard in front of the old cupcake Omaha space. it’s supposed to be a creperie and gelato shop.

I asked a contractor working on it earlier this week, they said Table Coffee Co is expanding into the larger space there.

I liked stokes. I know service was hit or miss at times but i liked the vibe in there. Too bad there isn't another sit down restaurant going in.

This is going to be the same gelato store that has been in Hardys Coffee shop. Centi should be opening up this new location soon.

Voodoo Taco is allegedly open (corner of Harney and 11th, where Michael's Cantina used to be).

EDIT: I was misinformed, or at least it wasn't open this evening.

Thank goodness! That intersection has looked dreary for awhile, but with The coffee shop taking over the empty Stokes bay and this concept opening up soon, it will look MUCH better.

More of a rumor at this point but I've heard from sources in the know that Laka Lono may move from their current location- they had some issues with flooding recently that may have prompted this.

I walked by the old Michael’s corner on Sunday and although some Voodoo Taco signs were visible in windows the old Michael’s sign still adorns the building exterior. One would think that sign would be coming down before Voodoo opens.

Can't blame me. I tried Voodoo Taco probably three times in their first year. Was two times to many and have not been back. Someone would have to do a good sales job to convince me that I needed to give it a fresh try
