I’m thinking old UP site. No way they would do a press conference for a 10-15 story residential complex on 11th and Harney. Plus the city owns the land on 14th and dodge. I’m assuming it’s a 40 story mixed use tower.

OR its the police and fire HQ moving. If we are lucky, there could be mixed use development announced on the existing sites downtown, but I doubt it.

I don't see why the city hall would announce this project, but maybe. Like mentioned in an above comment, the last couple announcements at City Hall were the Mutual/Streetcar and Downtown Soccer Stadium projects. An office renovation to apartments wouldn't be to the same magnitude in my opinion, even though adding around 800 people to the downtown urban core would be a HUGE impact.

I tend to agree that a formal announcement for a redo of these building would be overkill, but it would also add heavily to the mayor’s goal of adding housing downtown. We’ll find out in a couple hours I suppose.

Cool article, you forget how big these buildings are at 414,000 sq feet. It’s going to be weird not seeing them from the GLM. That’s the only downside to the new Mutual tower I think.

The CPP project is definitely happening. Land ownership will be transferred to NuStyle in the upcoming month or so. Confirmed by a few CRE connections. This has been in the works for a while.

It will be amazing for the core, but yes, it would be underwhelming if this was the announcement.

I was trying to see if NuStyle's redevelopment of the hospital had a public announcement, but I can't confirm.

CPP is a big deal, but City+Ventures didn't get a city announcement when they were going to build a third tower, so I am hopeful this one is not related to CPP, not because I don't think it's exciting, but because I want to see something new.

I can't help but be a cynic here but:

Great news, but not exactly ground breaking / exciting.

I think this is maybe more political. Keep hyping the street car and trying to educate those that think the streetcar doesn't make sense.

Existing apartments downtown that "no one can afford" are at 99% occupancy! Adding 700 units is only possible because of the streetcar!

I think for most of us this is all sorta "duh", but it's probably great optics for those that will only learn about this through the 7:00 news, or on Facebook...

Still pretty impressive that they will add over 700 units. And the city is building a parking garage on the west side of the block and NuStyle will build apts on top of that.

Yep, don't forget we are a niche crowd who pay attention to these things to a granular/obsessive level. Your everyday denizen is not going to know of this project unless it pings their KETV app on their iPhone or they see it on the evening news.

So to the average citizen it's a mark of progress downtown.
