I honestly think it's way too soon in the process to speculate on Rhule. Obviously it's a mess down there right now. Time well tell.

I am not a fan of Pillen, that being said these problems proceeded him. The finger pointing is politics of today. I do think the Regents have a big part of this as they are a constant and the fact that we are 7 months without a permanent president is a joke.

Hopefully Hoiberg's hometown ties and solid paycheck are enough to keep him around if Rhule leaves.

I’d say his hometown is Ames. I realize he was born in Lincoln but I don’t think he was there very long as he grew up in Ames, which is why his nickname is, The Mayor.

Well at least that's a school with less deep pockets, I guess.

Pillen can suck an egg - if Nebraska bites the big one and does happen to get kicked out of the Big Ten, there will be heck to pay. Will be interesting to see who points the finger at who.

I realize our consecutive sellout streak is a statistical joke at this point. Someone, somewhere is buying tickets for probably a few dollars a piece to keep this going. Understanding there is some logic to reducing seat count to improve comfort and fan experience, there also doing so because they realize if they continue to suck eggs at football then there will be a day people will stop going.

With every single game of football on streaming/TV now, I have zero desire to attend a game in person because the tunnel walk and the ambiance only brings so much excitement. If at the end of the game the score shows us losing by 1-2 points like usual, then it's a waste of time IMO.

Any way I see it, this doesn't look good at the moment. But as long as the political juggernauts continue to rule the roost, then Nebraska will stay on their downward spiral.

Never thought after watching them win 3 titles in the 90's that we'd ever turn into a team worse than 90% of the rest of the FBS.

Just read how Pillen basically got the last NU President appointed... this going to end very poorly.

https://www.wowt.com/2024/03/14/gov-pil ... or-hiring/

Also like how in the article he mentions how he "didn't understand Trev Alberts' departure". Wake up, dumbass... it's you and your cronies f-ing up the place.

Man this is all bad news! Not a single damn good thing is happening with this at the moment. NOT A THING.

The NU Regents have a lot of work to do. Be interesting to see what they get done and how soon.

What's the count.... 6 of 8 regents either backed or appointed by Heineman, Pillen, and/or Ricketts?

But sure... critical race theory and #metoo is the problem.

It's a joke - the way this all transpired I have a feeling it was a shock to most within the program and those outside that actually run the show.

Have a feeling this is going to get significantly worse before it gets better. They could really be f'ed here.

Pillen says it's been 206 days since the last president left and he feels we should have had a replacement by November. Obviously something wasn't clicking with the 🤡 interim acting president and Alberts must have felt this. So why are the big idiot political leaders failing so badly?

Unfortunately it is political - I'm shocked that a university in Texas is more attractive than working for UNL. That says a lot about our program and lack of leadership at the executive level.

Now that it's urgent we're going to get exactly who we probably should NOT have at the top, or at the AD level as well. Rhule will leave and Nebraska as we have known it (even with the football program being a total dumpster fire the past 20 years) will get worse.

I'd like to know who Pillen is blaming for the lack of finding a new pres if he and his cohorts in crime appointed the majority of the regents.

LOL... if Alberts thinks he's going to leave Nebraska/Big Ten and move to any Texas/SEC situation and have LESS political interference or less dumpster fires, he's nuts.

But, if your choice is dumpster fire for $2M/yr vs dumpster fire for $3M/yr, why not?

Yeah our situation is so bleak that we can't even find someone to run it. Money definitely wasn't the deciding factor, obviously that's what was going on behind the scenes yesterday. If it was money, he'd still be here.

For those keeping track at home:

Timothy Clare: Republican, member since 2009, unopposed in 2020
Jack Stark: Republican, totally not guilty of felony witness tampering
Jim Scheer: Republican, appointed by Pillen in 2023
Elizabeth O’Connor: Democrat
Robert Schafer: Republican, appointed by Heineman in 2013
Paul Kenney: Republican, appointed by Heineman 2006
Kathy Wilmot: Republican, backed by Ricketts
Barbara Weitz: Democrat, billionaire

Please fact check me if needed, but I feel this info all came from reasonable sources. Some of these people are real |expletive| doozies.

If accurate, seems fair. 75% Republican, 25% Democrat. Not even sure how the Dems ended up there. Not to say the Dems and/or Reps could all have their fair share of issues. Wouldn't it be something if this turned into a huge ordeal that was blasted all over ESPN/CNN/etc (I'd say Fox but they'd likely spin it).

Hate to make this into a huge political issue but I'd like to hear from any diehard Reps on here (if there are any) that have good arguments as to:

---Why they haven't found a president for the university in 205 days (especially considering even Pillen seems to be playing the "I'm surprised it wasn't done by Nov 2023 card)
---Why the majority have been Republican nominees when it shouldn't matter their political party (right?)
---Why did Trev leave considering he just renewed/extended his contract in Nov 2023 for several years with a NICE pay raise
---Why the urgency all of a sudden (words directly from Pillen today) when we should have had a new president in place before 2024?
---Why would anyone want to become the next AD when we don't even have a university president? That's like taking a new job at a different company without having a boss in place.

One is a billionaire and Omaha still exists. The districts are based on geography/population just like state leg or city council disctricts.

And it is 100% a political issue. (the make up of the BoR, that is... I'm not pretending to know why TA left.)

I get upset off when I see that Jack Stark is a regent. About 40 years ago I saw him at his private practice a couple of times. One day I came home to overhear my roommate talking on the phone with someone, talking about me. After the call ended, I picked up the phone and hit redial... Bingo! Good ol' Jack was betraying my personal info to someone he couldn't have known. This was before HIPAA was enacted, but, still...

Cook was in the running and interviewed when Trev was hired. If I remember correctly, at that time, Cook said he was initially interested but decided it was not for him.

Also, at Cook's age and with his ranch that he bought out west ( Wyoming?) during COVID times, I am guessing his next step is to leave into the sunset rather than take on a new to him high-pressure role.

One Senator called it out exactly for what it is: https://www.ketv.com/article/nebraska-l ... e/60206747

Political BS. For anyone else to argue otherwise is a moron. Trev knew we didn't have a president on the hook in November, right? So why renew his contract if he didn't have high hopes for things moving along how he'd like them to. Ultimately, yes, you want a president in place at the most popular university in the UN system. However, as long as he feels secure in his role, has the freedoms he needs to get |expletive| done and can function at a high level as necessary then a president shouldn't be an absolute requirement. Of course they NEED one, SHOULD have one, but Trev's capable and can certainly handle things on his own (he's shown it).

The only reason he'd leave when he's already making great money at the university he said he's committed to is if |expletive|'s starting to fall apart.

Of course other senators are saying "this is not the time to be laying blame". Guarantee if the regents were a Dem majority this would be ALL ABOUT the politics and pointing fingers.

Damn this makes me mad - at first I was thinking (or more likely hoping) it was a little bump in the road. But I really don't think a lot of people realize what's going on here.

This isn't 1995 anymore. Love Tom Osborne, he did MANY great things... but we can't run the university like it's pre 2K. Wake UP!

If/when the sellouts stop (I suppose that will never happen because Republican money will foot the bill to buy out the stadium) then someone may finally figure out this isn't good. If Nebraska gets a |expletive| president and a |expletive| AD (sorry, we shouldn't hire someone that's 70 years old), then Rhule could be out the door next. If that happens you can certainly kiss Raiola goodbye and virtually every other commit we've gotten in the past few years. With NIL Why would anyone stay?

Matt Davison would be a horrible choice and indicative of EVERYTHING that is wrong with the university and state. Dude made a catch one time almost 30 years ago. That's it. Being an athletic director is like being the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, what on earth has Matt Davison done to earn that? He rode the coattails of his catch for about 20 of those years and then rode Scott Frosts coattails into the AD's office. Yeah, he did some play by play broadcasting, but spent much of that time trying to sabotage previous coaches while trying to convince everyone the sky wasn't falling under Frost. Fortunately, Davison was essentially fired from his play by play role and went back into fundraising.

Many said Trev Alberts was unqualifies after being an athletic director for 10 years at a mid major. They said the mid major experience doesn't translate to the Power 5. What has Davison done that's even close to that? He might be ok with panhandle ranchers and farmers who will get stars in their eyes over "the catch" and can be regaled over stories of "Tom". But, that's it. I wouldn't buy for a second that he could walk into a meeting of the other Big Ten Athletic Directors and be taken seriously, let alone effectively advocate for Nebraska on the conference and national stage.

If NU were to even seriously consider Davison....they deserve the next 20 years of futility that will bring about.

People in this state need to get it out of their head that it always has to be a "Nebraska guy" to run things around here. The sentiment is weird...and damaging. The pool of "Nebraska guys" isn't large and you are rarely getting the best and brightest when you go that route. The "Nebraska guy" has been tried at coach and athletic director. How did that work out with Scott Frost? Steve Pederson? It hasn't worked with non-Nebraska guys either, Moos, Riley, etc. Alberts was about the best AD they'd had since either Byrne or Osborne. One was a Nebraska guy, one wasn't. It's about making the right choice and letting sentimentality color choices has hurt this program far more than it's helped over the years.

The important thing to remember here is Ron Brown baptizes players in a state funded university's pool. Anything else is unimportant.

100% agree - Davison has about 10% more experience of being an AD than I do, and I build |expletive| with LEGOs and make neon signs... Oh, I guess I've watched plenty of college football, perhaps that makes me qualified.

You're exactly correct - just because he's from Nebraska and played Nebraska football doesn't make one qualified to be the next AD, head coach, etc.

Truth be told I was excited to see Frost be coach - he did have a lot to do with UCF's turnaround, hard to argue that. However, he did nothing for NU football and probably made it worse.

Rhule as the latest HC was a good choice, IMO. And he had zero connections to our program prior to coming here. If they pull from their limited pool of Nebraska connections then we're in dire straits. Love supporting the team and the programs, love seeing them win games and perform well in other sports, especially basketball and volleyball. But they deserve what they get if they pull the trigger on a lackluster selection.

I'm telling you I don't see this going well - there have been zero mentions of anyone that I'd consider to be a great choice.

The only "Nebraska guy" names that actually make any sense from an experience perspective are Ed Stewart and Garth Glissman. I've seen both names floated in other areas. Cook is closer to retirement and probably wouldn't be interested.

I was an avid fan and donor. I stuck through even though I knew there was systemic issues that have come from the BOR and dark money.

It has gotten so bad now, where they are actively turning this into an anti-woke institution at all costs that I am no longer donating nor am I renewing my tickets for any of the seven sports I have been getting.

I am not the only one. This university is on a downward trajectory.

I’d say his hometown is Ames. I realize he was born in Lincoln but I don’t think he was there very long as he grew up in Ames, which is why his nickname is, The Mayor.
Well at least that's a school with less deep pockets, I guess.
Hoiberg signed an extension today. I posted the full article and link in current NU basketball thread.

Nebraska leaders sent pleading text messages to Trev Alberts before his departure

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen and the Board of Regents were actively working to retain former athletic director Trev Alberts just hours before his departure, according to messages obtained by KETV NewsWatch 7. Alberts accepted the Texas A&M athletic director job on March 13. Pillen and regents were pleading with him until the announcement. On March 12, the night before the announcement, regent Robert Schafer said: "Let me know if you want to visit yet tonight. Regardless, please give me a call before finalizing any decision. We are going to make this work."

Wonder how factual this story is. I tend to believe there is a good chance it is true

A shocking claim has been made regarding a former Nebraska athletic director. ESPN college basketball analyst Seth Greenberg alleges that former Texas A&M Aggies head basketball coach Buzz Williams and current Athletic Director Trev Alberts did not speak to one another for over a year.

Williams departed College Station on April 1st to take over the Maryland Terrapins. Greenberg made the stunning claim during an appearance on College GameDay.

I tend to believe it. Was weird how you kept hearing Williams to Maryland rumors before the job even opened. Add in how bad the communication was (or again, lack thereof) was with the baseball coach last summer who left for Texas right after losing in the CWS finals.

Things so far have not gone well for Trev at aTm.

I was OK with the hire but with what is known now, I think the Huskers dodged something that could have really gone bad when he left. I like where we ended up with his replacement so far.

I will admit I was all in on Trev being the AD when we hired him. Was really bummed when he left. That being said, as of now I think Dannen is a much better fit for us.
