What can this be? How far south does MECA's parking right go? Is Lot A going to be the first surface lot to be developed? There is a mixed-use project to the south, which may impact some of MECA’s parking rights.

Mixed-Use Project South of CHI Center
I don't have any details, but pulled this from the MECA Board Meeting minutes from February. It is from Jay Noddle:

We already know the streetcar maintenance facility is going in that area...could there be a residential component around here too like we've seen in numerous renderings over the years? Something overlooking the new parks?
Or alternate location hotel location for future convention expansion? Would there be enough space for that here?

I was thinking about it more. Are there any parking lots south of CHI, like the 10th and Harney lot, where MECA was even parking? I don't attend CHI Health Center events much, but I wonder if they have any parking rights with private surface lot owners in downtown.

Nice find. Those buildings on Lot A look like they were/are envisioning rowhomes and a residential/mixed-use tower.nebport5 wrote: Sat Mar 23, 2024 12:26 pmDoctor Fate wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2024 1:57 pm I think this would refer to Lot A. Boom! There's two lots south of CHI, that I assume MECA has event parking rights for. These blocks have the Courtyard (East) and Garden Inn (West) hotels. Properties have the same ownership. Garden Inn has an attached private parking garage to the west. Both have surface lots on the south that could be redeveloped.

Not huge lots, but maybe both are being planned for redevelopment?
Edit: just realized that parking to the south west is the city lot north of CPP; maybe Noddle was just talking about CPP, though I would consider CPP more residential than mixed use. Who knows.

Hughes Tree Service was in Lot A today cutting down several trees. I assume this was related to the future streetcar maintenance building but you never know -- could be related to some future mixed-use development.ita wrote: Fri Mar 22, 2024 10:31 am I don't have any details, but pulled this from the MECA Board Meeting minutes from February. Do you remember where they were doing that? To my understanding, this is where the streetcar maintenance facility will be:MadJack wrote: Mon Mar 25, 2024 3:20 pm

Edit: corrected “Lot A” to “streetcar maintenance facility”

Yes, I do. The trees were on either side of the parking lot entrance.

Previous news pieces note that the entrance to Lot A will need to be relocated due to the Streetcar Maintenance Facility, so maybe it’s just that. It would be surprising to see work like this starting without any other announcement
