As of recently I’ve been bothered by the fact that DTO needs more fillers. As in something to fit between the woody/fnc and up/old fnc.. IMO Wallstreet can’t come fast enough.

Nice Brad!

Wallstreet will do wonders. While having more of an impact on street level density than the skyline... has anyone noticed the new Creighton student housing under construction can really be noticed alongside everything else as you come over the Abbott Street bridge (much in the same way you notice the RFP as you head east on Cuming).

It's funny how sight lines change/open up with new construction. While driving south along Riverfront Drive and approaching the RFP condo building under construction, I just noticed the St Joseph Tower 'looming' on the horizon in the distance.

Speaking of which... view of downtown Omaha from the St Jospeh tower for anyone who hasn't seen this vantage point before...

I know a story about that house. It goes like this.......

The neighbors complained to the city numerous times due to peeling paint and general poor up keep of the exterior of the house. The woman that lives there is blind. Hence maybe her lack of concern for it's appearance. The city was moving forward with the neighbors complaints when the son decided to take care of the problem and paint the house in a way that would make the neighbors wish it looked the way it used to. Nothing the neighbors can do now, it's painted and his mother (occupant) knows no different.

If you know where the Lewis and Clark Monument is, just head south from there along the bluff line (N. 8th St) until you reach Park Wild, take a left up into the hills and keep going up...and up...and up.

This picture, taken I believe from the Lincoln Monument (another GREAT vantage point for the skyline) shows just how desperately Omaha needs one more 400+ to the south of Woodmen.

Yes, of course Ol' Hawkeye would be thrilled with even more 300-500 footers. But for now, if we just had ONE more in the same basic range as Wallstreet, Woodmen, or FNC, the skyline would be very, very impressive...especially for a metro under 1 million.

When Wallstreet goes up it will look great to the north of FNC, but the skyline will once again sort of be out of balance. Hopefully someone comes up with something for that part of town that makes sense (most likely residential) and rises above the structures around it.

Actually, that Mapquest map is wrong, as it shows Parkwild Drive going up into the apartment complex. Parkwild Drive actually goes all the way to the top (where it connects with a street name I can't remember now that takes you back down over the bluff).

So its a city park, and its just south of Lewis and Clark. I assume its open until 10 or so and is there public parking?

Most important. If I findy my way to Park Wild Drive, is it easy to find?

No Brad, Parkwild is not a city park...it's a housing development, with some nice looking homes, but also with some great vantage points for skyline photogs.

You may have to ask someone permission to step into their back yard because it's getting pretty much built out up there.

But contrary to popular belief, folks east of the river are nice and friendly and will probably let you take a few snaps from their yards...assuming you're not Dahmer-like.

From some photos I posted a few months ago at http://www.eomaha.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2972 this was a photo I shot after I parked my car on Park Wild Drive looking back toward Omaha, took out a tripod and just shot pictures. No backyards, no trespassing. It is just above the apartments - that must have one heck of a good view of Omaha!

did you have to go in someone's yard or did you find some good public access? I want o get up there but I am kind of a chicken when it comes to going on private property.

Thanks Brad. I actually just parked on the road and then setup my tripod in the grass strip between the street and sidewalk. Technically, I belive thats still city property.

It was about 10:30 or 11 so it was pretty quiet up there.

That looks great Wags. What was the focal length of that picture? I get my new 200mm 2.8L this week, and I want to find that spot for pictures and see how big of a Panorama I can get.

Thanks Bradley. If you mean the first pic and not my sig pic, the focal length was 190mm, aperture 8.0, shutter speed 2.5s. Guys, another really good spot over there is about 1 block west of the SW corner of Fairview cematary. I belive its Layfayette street, and there is a nice overlook area there.

What combination of lens to crop factor to get to 190mm? Was it a 200mm zoom @ 190mm or 135mm X 1.5 crop? I'm just curious to know what kind of reach to expect with my 200 at that vantage point.

Well, honestly I can't answer that. I still use the Fuji finepix program from my old point and shoot to go through my pics and it says 190mm. I can tell you I was using my 70-300mm lens and I think I was right around the mid-zoom for that shot, so I'm thinking 190mm not factoring in any crop factor.

EDIT: Well you got me wondering so I checked quick by shooting a pic in my apartment and checking it. It IS NOT factoring in any crop factor, its just lens focal length.
