Denver Captures Record 10th NCAA Men’s Hockey National Championship

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – For a record-setting 10th time, the Denver Pioneers are NCAA Men’s Hockey National Champions. No. 3 Denver used stellar goaltending and a big second period to down No. 1 Boston College, 2-0, Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center in the NCAA National Championship Game. With the win, the Pioneers pass Michigan for the most NCAA National Championships in men’s college hockey history, earning their 10th, while the Wolverines are stuck on nine. The national title is also Denver’s second in three years and third in the last seven NCAA Tournaments (2017, 2022). DU’s victory also gives the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) its sixth NCAA Championship since the conference began play in 2013-14, all coming since 2016 (in the last eight NCAA tournaments).

Along with Denver in 2017, 2022 and now 2024, the NCHC’s other national championships were won by North Dakota in 2016 and by Minnesota Duluth in 2018 and 2019.

NCHC Announces Addition of St. Thomas to the Conference as its Tenth Member

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the second time in two years, the NCHC is expanding. The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced on Wednesday that the University of St. Thomas has been accepted as a full-time member of the NCHC beginning in the 2026-27 season. The decision was approved with a unanimous vote from the NCHC Board of Directors on Tuesday night.

With the addition of St. Thomas, the NCHC will become a 10-team conference in two seasons when the Tommies are officially welcomed as an NCHC member on July 1, 2026. Last July, the NCHC announced the addition of Arizona State University, with the Sun Devils set to be the NCHC's ninth member starting on July 1, 2024. Those two schools will join Colorado College, the University of Denver, Miami University, the University of Minnesota Duluth, the University of Nebraska Omaha, the University of North Dakota, St. Cloud State University and Western Michigan University in composing the NCHC's membership.
