Ha! It was a bleep show downtown with all the berkies. I did manage to get a couple, here is a quick cell phone version from one of the spots I shot from.

Are my eyes playing tricks on me or are several of the reflective glass windows missing from the Central Park/Twin Towers South building as seen in these photos?

No they have started the renovation on the buildings, those windows are out.

I don't know if it's been posted before but coming down Abbot Drive I noticed you can see the top of the crane over the OWH Building.

Was that not the case a few days ago, or is this simply an observation you made?

i assume just an observation. DTO has been a long time forumer, but was away for a bit and just moved back so i think he's catching up

Construction Underway on Core of Mutual of Omaha Headquarters

With the ingenuity of something called the DOKA Shear Core Climber, or self-climber, the project is making safe and efficient strides.

“Mutual of Omaha currently has the second largest self-climber ever built in the U.S.,” said Brian Krouse, Director of Construction with Lanoha Real Estate Company, the developer for the project. “Not only does the formwork provide a mold for forming the shear core, it also creates a safe working environment, serving as a hive of activity with crews working at three levels within the core.”

Over the next several months, the construction crew will engage in a repetitive cycle of preparing, pouring and erecting the shear core. The self-climber, which is identifiable as a yellow encasement around the structure, creates a mobile concrete formwork system surrounding three levels of the structure at a time.

The entire self-climbing formwork structure weighs approximately 1 million pounds. The top deck, which is above the yellow encasement, receives materials while iron workers tie rebar for the walls. The middle level, inside the yellow encasement, is a work platform for installation of rebar for the shear walls, as well as steel embeds and blockouts to be installed in the walls before they are poured. The lowest level of the system is a working platform and gantry system for the installation of steel beams, metal deck and concrete that form the floors within the core.

After the concrete is poured and sufficiently cured, 18 hydraulic cylinders lift the top two levels of the self-climber 15 feet to its new position. Once they are locked into place, the hydraulics lift the bottom level up to create the new platform position. The work cycle will repeat to a full height of 650 feet near the top of the tower. When the core work is complete, the tower crane will be used to disassemble the self-climber and safely lower its components to the ground.

Construction of Mutual of Omaha headquarters is on track despite recent storms



The new Mutual of Omaha building is a project that developers say has been years in the making and now their vision is coming to life. "Everything is planned out to the day to the hour, it's one big choreographed dance quite frankly, to schedule materials, folks coming in and off the site because every hour matters on a job like this," developed Jason Lanoha. Lanoha also says the building is going up fast and the recent storms that have impacted the area aren't slowing it down.

"One of the beauties of going vertical is that you get out of the mud pretty quickly so rain in the evening for example the rain that happened last night had no impact on us today," said Lanoha. Mutual of Omaha employees will be able to move into their new offices in 2026. Once complete the sky scraper will be the tallest building in Omaha standing at 677 feet tall, where the downtown library once stood.

skinz estimated 5/3 we would hit floor 15, which we did. Based on that, the timeline would look like this:

6/17: 21 floors

I wonder at what point they are going to have to move the crane up. Would that be around 20-22 floors? I would think that might slow down the floor progress at least momentarily.

True, as the concrete core won't be 677 feet on it's own.

I'll bet they finish the core at the end of this year, so they can spend all of 2025 putting up the rest, ending the year with a complete façade.

That way, the tower will be ready to open in 2026.

Appreciate these updates very much. Although I can count to two once a week - it is nice to see in writing.

Curious when the crane will be extended. Also if they do it one segment at a time, or boost it significantly when they add to it. i.e. several sections at once.

I'm height obsessed if you can't tell.

They have to add on the section that actually raises the tower crane, so usually they add multiple sections at a time.

You can see the core looks a lot like how Mutual looks now, only taller.

Maybe this is where Mutual will be in say, 9 months, give or take?

coming over the bridge from council bluffs, the core really has a strong visual presence there. Once it goes up to 17, i think it will match the height of CPP. They were workin at full tilt this morning when i passed by!

That would be a huge milestone, matching CPP in height. Hopefully we'll get to see it in a couple days!

i wasn't paying attention when highwinds first posted that picture, but it also shows how different north downtown is since 2001!

That is exactly what I looked at on the that picture. If it showed a little more to the east you would also see the transformation that the Capitol District, CHI, Hilton Omaha, and Steelhouse have made on the area. Almost un-recognizable to around 2000 when this would have been taken.

I was honestly having trouble picking out a single thing I recognized haha. The complete change is insane!
