For the first time in the Division I era, the 2023 Omaha Mavericks are Summit League Champions after defeating South Dakota State in the Summit League title game. With the postseason tournament victory, Omaha clinches their first DI NCAA Tournament berth in program history. The Mavericks will now wait until tonight to see who they draw the in next week's NCAA opening round.
A celebratory drive home from Brookings, South Dakota, was also filled with anticipation for what was ahead for UNO this week. The Mavericks completed an unbeaten run through the Summit League tournament, knocking off top-seeded South Dakota State 1-0 on the Jackrabbits' soggy home field.
About four hours after UNO became the last team to clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, the Mavs found out they would be heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for regional play beginning Friday. They were on the team bus just south of Sioux City when their name was announced on the ESPN selection show. That set off another celebration.

After a long weekend in Brookings, SD, the Mavs are headed to the deep South where they’ll make their NCAA Tournament debut against Louisiana Friday at 2 p.m. in the Baton Rouge Regional.
”We’re gritty,” said Omaha ace Kamryn Meyer Tuesday afternoon. “Some people might not like to use that word, but I think having that dog mentality is just really important. We’re going to go out for every single pitch, every single at-bat, and just play our game and play for each other.”

Mavericks All Access Omaha Softball Continues Record Season
Ana Bellinghausen sat down with Omaha softball’s Kamryn Meyer, Lynsey Tucker and head coach Mike Heard on a live episode of Mavs All Access. They discuss the 16-game win streak this year, wanting to get back to the NCAA tournament and even play a trivia game to end the show!
The University of Nebraska Omaha will compete in the NCAA Women’s Softball Tournament. Regional action starts May 16, and Super Regionals will be held on May 23, leading up to the Women's College World Series on May 30 in Oklahoma City. Omaha softball will go against nationally ranked no. 7 Missouri in the first round. They'll play in Columbia on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Mavericks won the Summit League Tournament for the second year in a row, finishing 41-13 overall. Nebraska failed to make it to the tournament this year.
The Omaha Mavericks took down the #7 Missouri Tigers 3-1 in their opening game of the NCAA Columbia Regional. The Mavericks were boosted to victory with a pair of home runs. The Mavericks improved to a 42-13 overall record and are now 6-4 against Power 5 opponents. Omaha is set to play Washington tomorrow May, 18 at 2 p.m
The Omaha Mavericks defeated Pac-12 opponent Washington 3-2 in game two of the NCAA Columbia Regional. For the first time ever, the Mavericks have won two regional games and are moving on to the regional final. The Mavericks improved to a 43-13 overall season record and are now 7-4 against Power 5 opponents and 3-2 in the NCAA tournament. Omaha is set to play in the Regional Final tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The Omaha Mavericks softball team's historic campaign concluded in Columbia in the regional championship. The #7 Missouri Tigers won back-to-back games 5-1 and 1-0 in nine innings. In just their second NCAA Tournament appearance, after only winning one regional game last season, the Mavericks made it to the regional championship for the first time in program history. The Mavericks finished the campaign with a 43-15 overall record, setting a new record for most wins in a D1 season. In conference, Omaha went 14-4, finished second, and won back-to-back Summit League Tournaments.
Gutted for the team, was 3-outs away in the top of the 7th from getting to the supers. They took Mizzou down to the wire, very impressed and they have a ton to be proud of.
The Oklahoma Sooners are back in Oklahoma City this week for the Women's College World Series and a possible four-peat. Around 13,000 fans will pack Devon Park. Social media will be buzzing about Jayda Coleman's wall-crashing catches and coach Patty Gasso's dugout maneuvers. It wasn't always this way. In 1975, the year the Sooners' program was born, Oklahoma was eliminated after just two games in front of a smattering of observers at a place called Dill Field in Omaha. There was no NIL or tailgating; the '75 national champions celebrated at a local pizza parlor and drank beer afterward on their own dime. Five decades later, the WCWS has morphed into a nationally televised event that draws 2 million viewers for the finals and showcases some of the best women's athletes in the country. This is the story of coach Connie Claussen and the 1975 Women's College World Series champions, the University of Nebraska at Omaha Maverettes.
