Nebraska baseball fall 11-6 to Spartans, finish second in Big Ten regular season

Nebraska baseball (34-19, 16-8) fell a game short of a series sweep and a shot at the share of the Big Ten regular-season title with an 11-6 loss to Michigan State (23-27, 10-13). The Big Red leave East Lansing with another series win, winning 12 of their 14 weekends in the regular season.

Despite the disappointment of falling short of the Big Ten regular season title, Nebraska baseball clinched second place in the Big Ten Regular season. NU still has a chance at the Big Ten Tournament title. The Huskers will battle No. 7 Ohio State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament at 2:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, May 21 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Heard on 1620 Nebraska's current RPI is 31. So it sounds like regardless of how the team does in the Big 10 tournament they will be in the NCAA's, most likely as a 2 seed.

I have felt like they are solid in the NCAA regionals for a while. Hosting is off the table IMO and it is about where they land as a 2

Big Ten Conference Announces 2024 Baseball Tournament Bracket

The Big Ten Conference announced Saturday the bracket for the 2024 Big Ten Baseball Tournament Presented by IFS.ai, scheduled for May 21-26 at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Neb. The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will determine the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Illinois, which won the Big Ten Championship outright on Saturday, has earned the No. 1 seed.

The tournament begins Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT when No. 3 seed Indiana (30-22-1) takes on No. 6 seed Purdue (33-22). No. 2 seed Nebraska (34-19) faces No. 7 seed Ohio State (28-24) at 2 p.m. followed by top-seeded Illinois (33-17) versus No. 8 seed Penn State (26-23) at 6 p.m. No. 4 seed Michigan (30-26) encounters No. 5 seed Iowa (31-21) on Wednesday at 2 p.m.

NU had a pair of baserunners in the bottom of the seventh after Anglim’s pinch-hit one-out double and a two-out walk to Rhett Stokes, but the Huskers couldn’t cut into the deficit, leading to Ohio State’s 15-2 run-rule win in seven innings on Tuesday night.

Nebraska takes on sixth-seeded Purdue tomorrow in an elimination game tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

Nebraska Baseball Eliminates Purdue to Stay Alive in Big Ten Tournament

No "0-2 barbecue" for Nebraska baseball. The Huskers eliminated Purdue from the Big Ten Conference Baseball Tournament Wednesday evening. Nebraska's 6-2 win keeps the Huskers' tournament alive as they move on to Friday. NU is now 35-20 while Purdue ends its season at 33-24.

Nebraska will next be in action Friday at 2 p.m. CDT. The Huskers will play the loser of Thursday's matchup between No. 3 seed Indiana and No. 7 seed Ohio State.

It's the bottom of the 7th and Nebraska's up 6-3. After what happened on Tuesday night, how Ohio State just shellacked Nebraska, I was expecting a repeat of that. But no.

UPDATE: Now it's the 8th and Nebraska's up 9-3. Incredible! I think it's safe to say they're going to win this one.

Also, if you are interested in this tourny, you have likely heard, that the champ game has been moved up to a 10 AM start instead of 2 PM with the weather threat that is forecast.

Will Bolt excited for opportunity to play for Big Ten championship

No. 2 seed Nebraska is set to battle No. 8 seed Penn State in the 2024 Big Ten Tournament championship on Sunday after defeating No. 3 seed Indiana twice on Saturday in the semifinal round.

Bolt was a second baseman for Nebraska from 1999-2002, has three Big 12 Championships (1999, 2000, 2001) under his belt as a player — not to mention being a part of two of the three Huskers squads to ever make it to the College World Series in 2001 and 2002.

Nebraska moved over to the Big Ten in 2012, however, and has never won a title in its current league. They were runner-ups in 2013, 2014 and 2019, but have not tasted similar success since.

Nebraska Outlasts Penn State 2-1 for First Big Ten Tournament Title

Nebraska baseball has won the Big Ten Conference Tournament Championship. NU outlasted Penn State 2-1 in the league title game Sunday. This is the first conference tournament championship for the Big Red since joining the Big Ten. Nebraska has won five conference tournament titles in program history: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2024.

Caron, with a conference tournament record six home runs this week, was named Most Outstanding Player of the Big Ten Conference Tournament. Other Huskers on the All-Big Ten Tournament team are Swansen, Caron, Josh Stokes, and Will Walsh.
