An amusement park downtown wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Re: Downtown Omaha Master Plan
I'm one of the few young people who live downtown and don't have a car. Everything I need is in walking distance and I rely on buses/the ORBT when I need to go out west for something (I hate west Omaha).Garrett wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2024 4:07 pmNo, the second partPotatoeEatsFish wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2024 11:30 amThe 2009 plan had a Ferris wheel by the DurhamGarrett wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2024 7:17 am… whatPotatoeEatsFish wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2024 6:29 am So when we getting that Ferris wheel by Durham? Let’s just buy a rusty old one from a carnival and put it up for the heck of it.
Also I don’t have a car and live in the only walkable neighborhood in Omaha with a grocery store. I will be the decider on walkability and mass transit access issues on this forum.
I just meant I have a deeper understanding of the pedestrian needs in Omaha because I'm on the streets. I have to cross Dodge Street many times a week and know the struggle. People in Omaha love to turn right on red lights without even looking if someone is crossing the street literally right next to them.

Re: Downtown Omaha Master Plan
Omaha has rolled out a website for the city's master plan.
"With the help of several area nonprofits, officials are planning to engage with residents through December 2025 through surveys, workshops, listening sessions, interviews, and even hands-on “game-like” experiences to figure out how the city can best meet the needs of its residents into the 2030s and ’40s.
For those interested in participating or learning more, the site also offers a mechanism for notifications.
The site already has sections in place for blog posts, progress reports, and online engagement opportunities, as well as a map to help residents find in-person events near them as they’re scheduled.
Down the road, the city will launch a Community Vision survey to get residents’ input on various topics, from health and mobility, to transportation and infrastructure, housing and economic development, land use, and more."

Re: Downtown Omaha Master Plan
They’re just starting the process, so no plans to render yet.
Separately, I suppose this should be a different thread since this is the master plan for the whole city, not just downtown

Nope, you start at 0, and end at 72nd. Unless you are flying out from Eppley to Seattle or SFO. But at least that way you have a little altitude and don't have to really see anything west of 72nd.nebugeater wrote: Thu Jun 13, 2024 7:11 pmSo you are saying there is no need to go East of 72nd?

Re: Downtown Omaha Master Plan
While there are mistakes that were done past west of 72nd street during the car-centric decades, we have several future projects that will seed mixed-used walk able pockets and a network of desirable nodes, there is so much potential west of 72nd. While the urban core continues to strengthen and expand. West of 72nd in its current state, is a living example for all as to why those modern "urban" ideas of the 1960s don't work.
We have now seen what works and what doesn't work and there is a bright future in heading towards an extensive network of vibrant Omaha communities. Omaha is entering a golden age and there is no turning back to the mistakes of the past. The mistakes of the recent decades will only be erased and be replaced with ideas of a more traditional urban approach.
We shouldn't forget about West of 72nd, even if the typical pattern of immature comments of a member says that Omaha ends in 72nd.
