The Cryptic Rumor Department has another bit of insight on a possible development..
We have heard of the very real potential for a “New to Market” hotel, possibly 12 to even 20 stories in height in the Old Market area..The location info, is it would potentially be located in the grassy area north of the Embassy Suites hotel..

Between this and the continuing rumors of residential on 10th/Harney, this area could be very active soon
Between this and the rumor at 10th and Harney, I've always thought this area could have more development. Tons of empty lots and a lot of buildings that can be renovated. It's really gonna densify and make this part of town new and look nice. Omaha's on a roll.

True statement there. Very exciting times for the city and metro…

I really believe, also, the Riverfront park redevelopment plan is starting to pay the dividends we expected and anticipated it would- bring more folks downtown to enjoy spaces that are attractive and wildly accommodating. Along with the Lumenarium Science Museum built along the riverfront- businesses- residential and amenity driven- are taking notice..
Omaha’s downtown core is a hotspot, and a place to be and to be seen…

Also between this and Mayor Stothert mentioning Omni as a possible new convention hotel, that’s quite a few new hotel rooms coming to the core
True statement..
And Omni would be the perfect “get” for a 3rd convention hotel..

Was there a planned or expected location that this would be?

I can’t recall if she mentioned a location but I imagine it would be Lot B so it could have a sky bridge

For the campus's redevelopment, that location does say it should be a hotel with about 200-300 rooms. If they're able to land a decent hotel here and one near the convention center with their expansion they're considering, Omaha can be an even bigger hotspot which is needed.

A 20 story hotel would put it at about 220 ft?
Maybe even closer to 260 feet..But I’d take any additional dense development in the area. Height would be great though …
Ciao..LiO…Peace
Something close to 260 would be pretty cool. Is the “new to market” aspect referring to a new brand (ie. Omni, Le Meridien) or could it be a sub-brand (ie. Hyatt Centric, Canopy by Hilton)?

Assuming Omni is going across from the arena, they’re probably not the one.

Did Stothert actually confirm that, and if so where? I know someone who works for Omni and they hadn’t heard / were interested to see the quote.

About 27 minutes into this episode of Grow Omaha during the uncut (off air) segment Mayor Stothert gets talking about the plans for development around the convention center and Omni is just an off the cuff mention for a possible hotel on Lot B so nothing confirmed but more so along the lines of what they’re looking at.

I wouldn't be surprised if we hear of a Drury inn location soon. I think the one they recently announced for downtown Lincoln was around 250 rooms.
@Garrett - thanks!!
I wouldn't be disappointed if this is a Drury. No, it's not a luxury brand but I've stayed at a few and they've always been excellent.
Nothing against Drury, but I don't think there are many Drury's in the 12-20 story range? Also remember that The Cryptic Rumor Dept. has previously reported rumors of a W Hotel for The Mercantile. That also seems consistent with Mercantile's proclamation as a "city-defining" development.

Did not know of this previous rumor. A W would be an amazing get for Omaha.

She only mentioned it in passing, but only said Omni as an example, and it was the only one mentioned. Had she mentioned two or three, it’d be a different story. Whenever someone mentions only one, say, a Camaro, they usually end up with a Camaro.
It was one of the last cut for this list based on the two potential hotel locations (Mercantile & Lot B). However, I imagine it would be added elsewhere in the metro area.

So, are you saying a hotel partner has already been chosen for the CHI expansion as well?

THIS WAS ME. I forgot I was in Rumors and it went anonymous. :/

Ah I see. Yeah, for those specific developments downtown, your list names all the viable/ones I would want to see.
If the OMA gets a W like the one in Minneapolis, with that same vibe/energy and ambience, that would be a big time game changer for Omaha. Just what city needs and perfect for that grassy area north of the Embassy. From a marketing perspective, the more such brands land in Omaha, you better believe their competitors will take notice.
