Runza is good-
Don & Millie’s is better imo…

I juggle with Don & Millies, Bronco's, and Runza. They're all good, and in the same realm IMO, but if I had leave my house right now and choose where I'd go to get that kind of fast food burger, it would be Don & Millies, then Bronco's, then Runza.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 10:47 pmRunza is good-

Still wish they'd bring back the ham and cheese frenchee. GrrrrrrCBJason wrote: Thu Jun 20, 2024 8:14 am In addition to trying Hawaiian Bros, we were able to get to Don & Millies for cheese frenchies and Runza for some runzas. All delicious!
That sounds fire, I'd never had it before. You know when they stopped making it?
It's probably been 10+ years by now. But it was by far my favorite. It was like a hot ham and cheese sandwich inside the super healthy, fried up outside! Seriously, it was amazing.Busguy2010 wrote: Thu Jun 20, 2024 3:47 pmThat sounds fire, I'd never had it before. You know when they stopped making it?
Hmm, yeah that's a bit of a strange logic they had there. Why replace the ham for tuna when one could simply get the cheese only version and be all good? And a tuna sandwich isn't exactly, erm, a home run food in I think anybodys book. I'll have one every now and then at home, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to buy one at a restaurant.djc311 wrote: Fri Jun 21, 2024 8:50 am It's probably been 10+ years by now. What they would do is around lent they'd drop the ham option and change it to tuna. My wife is Catholic - totally understand the idea of adding the tuna option, but why get rid of ham because of lent? It's not like they stopped selling hamburgers as well during this time - it didn't make sense to me (and I never ate the tuna option).
In any case, one year after lent ended the ham was simply not brought back. Not sure why. I can imagine it has to do with sales (or lack thereof). But for the cost of the cheese only version (about $10 for the meal I think now, just like everything else) I feel like it's a bit of a rip. If they still had the ham option it would probably be another $1, but when I want something for lunch or dinner I feel like a cheese sandwich is something you make at home. Of course it has the breading, it's fried, etc. but you probably see my point.
In any case, they need to bring the ham and cheese version back.
I agree on Runza but think Culvers is close.thenewguy wrote: Wed Jun 19, 2024 2:42 pm that's a good idea. Even Arby's can be cheaper.
Best fast food burger is still Runza, i think.
I agree with this. Except I’d rank the best fast food burgers in Omaha this way- Don & Millie’s, Broncos, then Runza..Greg S wrote: Mon Jun 24, 2024 9:44 am My favorite fast food burger is Bronco's. I would put both Don and Millie's and Runza over Culvers.
This has also happened to me when I order a cheeseburger at Runza. It’s why among my 3 favorite fast food burgers, I rank them 3rd. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens enough that it’s noticeable…ChadJK wrote: Fri Jun 28, 2024 8:36 am Runza has a good burger, but one thing that seems to keep happening there is I get my cheeseburger without the cheese being melted on it. The patty should always be hot enough to melt the cheese (or they're using some weird cheese). I find myself taking the patty and cheese off the bun and tossing it in the microwave for 20 seconds or so to get melted cheese. I don't know why, but I find unmelted cheese on fast food burgers to be a little gross.
Hopefully they stay permanently. Arby’s should have never canned the item in the first place…Padre wrote: Mon Jul 01, 2024 12:59 pm Arby’s potato cakes are available for a limited time.

For that matter, I actually miss their "original" Arby's Sauce. It's probably been at least 20 years now, but I preferred it (at least at the time). If I remember correctly, it was a bit more bar-b-q tasting.
Lastly, I wish they'd bring back the Arby-Q sandwich.
Dammit Arby's, get your |expletive| together.![]()
The curly fries are good when they’re fresh, but they often taste like they’ve been sitting around a long time. The potato cakes taste fresh all the time, if not a bit greasy sometimes.Busguy2010 wrote: Wed Jul 03, 2024 8:39 am
As for the tater cakes... For me at least, this isn't a hype item. It's just a hashbrown. Sure, pretty tasty, but I'm not running to Arby's any time soon because of it. More for you guys! I always preferred their curly fries given the choice.
Overall, it's been quite some time since I've had Arby's, I can't remember it. The last item from there I was big on was their Italian sub.
I don't like their Curly fries. Will go with the Crinkle fries every time on the rare occasion I go there. Typically I like Curly fries, but with theirs, between the seasoning and my perception that they are a lot oilier than others, I do a pass.Padre wrote: Wed Jul 03, 2024 9:06 amThe curly fries are good when they’re fresh, but they often taste like they’ve been sitting around a long time. They do have to be cooked right. I actually have a bag of them frozen, bought from Walmart, and I personally must have them crisp. If they're at all floppy, I'm no fan. But I love the seasoning on them.nebugeater wrote: Wed Jul 03, 2024 10:42 amI don't like their Curly fries. Will go with the Crinkle fries every time on the rare occasion I go there. Arby’s Potato Cakes were an original iconic offering.. Passing them off as simply “Hash Browns” is not really accurate as to what they are..at all. Hopefully the powers to be keep them on their menu “temporarily Permanently”, LOL..djc311 wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2024 4:43 pm100% agreed! I respect your love for the potato cakes. But to me, with no bias, shredded potato, oil, and salt = hashbrown. Probably an oversimplification on my part. Though I was never really partial to any particular shredded potato offering, I'd say I preferred McDonald's hashbrown over the potato cake. I guess the thickness of the potato cake held too much of the oil for me and didn't get crisp enough. Don't get me wrong, I liked em, I just don't really see it as something that I have to go out and get.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Thu Jul 04, 2024 12:20 pm Arby’s Potato Cakes were an original iconic offering.. As a side note, I think it could be interesting if they came out with a seasoned version. Season the potato cake with the curly fry seasoning?
I think we need to get in touch with Arby's R&D. Adding the curly fry seasoning to the potato cake would be such a simple hack, and would make it a unique enough item to go out and get. I would actually leave my house right now if they had that offering.Omaha Cowboy wrote: Fri Jul 05, 2024 11:18 am I think you’re on to something here. Spicy seasoned potato cakes? Sign me up!…

I'm sure it's changed over time, but I can remember the Arby's in Bellevue running out of roast beef back in the late 90s/early 00s and it's basically a career-ender for the general manager if word gets back to corporate. There's one thing you don't run out of at Arby's and that's roast beef. (Imagine Chick-fil-A running out of chicken.) Now, with restaurants always struggling to retain staff they're probably a lot more forgiving.Padre wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 6:22 pm I went to Arby’s today for the first time in six months. I remember going to Burger King on 13th Street towards the intestate one time, probably 10 years ago, and they had a sign up saying they were out of buns, so they could not serve Hamburgers. So the way my mind works I ordered a cheeseburger.... The person taking the order "got it" and laughed and said something to the effect you are not wrongChadJK wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 9:26 amI'm sure it's changed over time, but I can remember the Arby's in Bellevue running out of roast beef back in the late 90s/early 00s and it's basically a career-ender for the general manager if word gets back to corporate. Also, the Pepperoni Pizza Submarino at Fazoli's. I'm not sure if it's been gone 10 years, but it was a tasty sorta French Bread Pizza.
Taco John's has the Taco Burger on special right now. 2 for 5 bucks or 1 taco burger and a small ole's for $5.Bob from Omaha wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 12:23 pmTaco Bell Bellbeefer &/or Taco John's Taco Burger.ChadJK wrote: Tue Jul 09, 2024 12:03 pm What menu item do you miss most that hasn't been on a fast food menu in 10+ years? That was just the ground taco meat and shredded cheese on a hamburger bun, right? More like a Tex-Mex "Sloppy Joe."
