Re: Nebraska Football 2024
i hate to be a husker homer (wait...no i don't, I love me some Big Red), but this kind of video gives me hope. Not saying i want to go into the season ranked at all (cause i'd love for them to get the in-season buzz and not be disappointed if we lose any early), but it is possible we go bowling this year. Maybe in 5 or 10 years after some good recruiting a some bowl wins, we can talk playoffs?

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
The hype train has me hoping for something special THIS year. Like they were saying, I myself checked out the schedule, and I didn't feel real crazy predicting undefeated well into the season. Every other time the boys started off 5-0, 6-0, 7-0, they've been ranked in the single digits. Certainly helps to start the season ranked, though they haven't earned that. I don't see it too far off to end up 9-3 and ranked in the teens. That's where my expectation is. Just needed a decent QB last year and they'd have been there already.thenewguy wrote: Mon May 20, 2024 1:16 pm i hate to be a husker homer (wait...no i don't, I love me some Big Red), but this kind of video gives me hope. When you consider three important aspects of the offseason:
1. retaining Tony White
2. hiring a QB coach (yes Raiola & Kaelin are great pickups but Haarberg has already show improvement too)
3. the lowest portal attrition
Then consider it's the second year for most players in Rhule's system...
And then look at the schedule...and if you were to say Nebraska could very well become bowl eligible before playing Ohio St. I don't think an objective party would accuse you of drinking spiked kool-aid.
"It's just a rendering."

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Some changes to the fan experience are on the way at Memorial Stadium and other Nebraska Athletics venues.
The Huskers on Thursday announced a list of alterations that will be made this season and moving forward, including a switch to being completely cashless. This means only cards can be used to pay for concessions, tickets, and merchandise.
The Nebraska Athletics ticket office has been relocated to West Stadium, but on football game days, it will operate out of Gate 10A on the northwest side of Memorial Stadium. This fall marks the final season Nebraska will use printed tickets, as the university looks to move forward with mobile tickets only — which can be downloaded on a smartphone.
Husker fans can expect increased security with new walk-through scanners to make screening as fast and efficient as possible. Nebraska Athletics also promised better Wi-Fi for fans on the Memorial Stadium concourse.
For fans who like to welcome the Huskers to the stadium, there is a new drop-off spot for the team — 14th and Vine Street. Players will be getting off the bus about 2 hours before kickoff and will be greeted by the Husker spirit squad and marching band.
Among one of the few changes slightly impacting the game itself is a sideline switch. The Huskers will now be on the west sideline and the visiting team on the east — opposite from past years. That said, there’s no change to the team entrances or the tunnel walk.
A countdown clock will also be implemented by the Big Ten Conference this year to indicate the length of media breaks and TV timeouts.
Nebraska Athletics reminds fans of the special dates for the 2024 Husker Football home slate:
Sept. 7 vs. Colorado - 1994 National Championship Reunion, Frank Solich CFB Hall of Fame Salute
Sept. 14 vs. Northern Iowa - Ag Day, Nebraska Football Hall of Fame Recognition
Sept. 20 vs. Illinois - 400th Consecutive Sellout Celebration, Red Cross Day
Oct. 5 vs. Rutgers - Homecoming, Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame Recognition
Nov. 2 vs. UCLA - Military Appreciation Day
The Huskers open their season at home next Saturday, Aug. 31 against UTEP at 2:30 p.m. on FOX.

Too bad to hear about the printed tickets going away. While I'm a big fan of the convenience and easy of digital ticketing, it does hit a sentimental note for those who like to have those keepsakes.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
Huh... I just noticed college football implemented a "two minute timeout" at the end of each half. I know the NFL has done it forever, but I don't see the point of it in college. As if the clock doesn't stop often enough
Only reason I can see is another TV plug. SMH, college football is hard to watch anymore. They draw it out for so long, |expletive| you not, I have the Oklahoma game on in the background and it's taken over 10 real minutes for 45 seconds of game clock.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
I don't know how they can claim it doesn't. There was certainly a commercial break, that itself lasted about two minutes. Couldn't read article. But aside from my main point that college games are approaching and surpassing 4 hours start to finish, and there's an obvious frequency of commercial breaks in college vs NFL games. I barely have the patience to watch a Husker game with how often they stop.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
Speaking of said Husker game, maybe it's a good thing I won't be able to watch today. I have a feeling it should be a fairly easy win. It's about time they got smart and realized they needed a warm up game, not playing a conference game or other p5 opponent for the first game. It's been a long time. I don't know anything about UTEP, but they call these "cupcake" games. Recently nobody's been scared of the Skers, so hopefully they'll take care of business. I'm just gonna throw a random number out there...

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
The NYT article above thoroughly debunks the theory that CFB games were longer or had more TV timeouts than in previous years, at least based off of review of Week Zero games last weekend. I mean they went drive by drive, timeout by timeout, to the second, and proved the theory wrong.
Additionally, there's literally zero evidence that the average college football game is "approaching and surpassing" four hours. At worst, in the recent decades where this sort of thing has been tracked, the "average game" never made it to 3 1/2 hours, peaking at 3:28 in 2020 and 2021:
https://sportsenthusiasts.net/2023/09/0 ... all-games/
All stats I find for 2023 pint to an average length reduction of 5 minutes from 2022 to 2023, as well.
So yea, maybe there's some recency bias that games are getting longer. But the idea that the average game is approaching 4 hours is not reality based.

Okay, let's keep track of the length of Skers games this year. Perhaps maybe the length of the game itself isn't as long as I'm thinking, but maybe the broadcast is. Since the broadcast starts at 2:30, let's see how long it goes from 2:30 to the 0:00 mark. This particicular game probably should be over within the 3 hours 30 minutes they allot for it as I don't see it being back and forth.

The game prior to the skers has started at 11:07. 7 minutes, sure not a huge deal, but that's 7 minutes the NFL doesn't waste.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
I just discovered there were rule changes enacted for 2024 that are meant to shorten the game:
The clock no longer stops after every first down, only within the two minute timeout period.
The clock only stops after an out of bounds play until the ball is spotted, and is then back ticking, except within the two minute timeout period.
In the past, the clock would stop on every first down and every out of bounds play. So apparently people were noticing these games being drawn out and maybe with these rule changes, the length of games will be a little more reasonable. On average a college game was 20 minutes longer than a NFL game. Hopefully they won't be so long this year. Whether I was wrong about them being 4 hours or not, it certainly seems it was recognized they were going on too long.

I'll take the win with a grain of salt. It is what it's worth, however, it has to be great for the team to have a dominant win under their belt rather than the annual buzz kill that's been since 2019.

Just glad the Huskers didn't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like we have become so used to the past few years.
On another note, no idea the 400th consecutive sellout was already coming up in a few weeks until I read S.O. Boy's post.

I think it could go either way. Can't forget North Dakota State (the team Colorado just barely beat) is actually really good in FCS. I'd have my doubts about the Skers going against them game one if I'm honest. That was a good win for Colorado.
I think this'll be close, but I'm optimistic. I'll say Skers 28-24.

In case you didn't notice it, Nebraska received 27 votes in the AP top 25, while Colorado received 1. Good to see them finally getting some love. I'd think IF the Huskers pull out a win, depending how good it is, would break the top 25.

Nebraska never really considered Colorado a big rival like Oklahoma. But Colorado felt the opposite. They considered Nebraska their biggest rival.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
Coming from an Iowa fan - Nebraska should blow Colorado out of the water. Raiola is looking good. Plus NDSU is not the team they used to be as they lost many players from last year's team. The fact that Colorado played them close shows they are not a tough team. Colorado is still living off the hype from last year, but look at how last season turned out.
If Raiola keeps it up and the O line holds strong, Nebraska should be making it at least 7-5 or 8-4.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
This is the most anticipation I've felt for a Husker game in a good long while. I legit think they have a real opportunity here, to get by Colorado, and be ranked next week, and pretty much have easy street up until Ohio State. Win tonight and I'm really optimistic about them starting 7-0 and being ranked fairly high against Ohio State.
