2024 Fall Color Thread

While typical Fall Color season in the greater Omaha metro area usually starts the last week of September, and ends the first week of November, I am seeing areas of town starting to change a little. I'm not talking a branch on an old ash tree or a random suburban red maple, but actual pockets of color (Several trees in the same area). I'm hoping with all the rain early in the season, we have a good fall color year.

I definitely feel like some of the trees have had more stress this year between all the wind storms, causing them to turn colors earlier than normal.

I'd imagine we'll start seeing some color across most of the metro by next weekend after this cooler run of temps.

I was thinking the exact same thing. After the cool nights in the low 50's next week, I am sure we will get much more color.

While I believe cool temperatures help and can swing the dates by a few days, I think the sun angle and length of daylight is just as important as anything else.

Indeed. The shorter daylight hours is the biggest single factor in signaling trees to start to go dormant. And of course the reverse is true as spring begins in March and April.

Not as much color as could be in my neighborhood, but leaves starting to fall.
