I hope they do something. I actually much prefer their burgers to McDonald's. Otherwise McDonalds kinda lost me with their egregious price increases. I'm much more a BK and Wendy’s person now.

The regional operator of Freddy's has bought the old abandoned Burger King lot in York. I don't know if they are going to demo and rebuild, or renovate.

It seems BK wants to be Sears/KMart.

It’s definitely on that trajectory..

And has been for quite awhile. I used to actually like BK in the 1980’s and 1990’s even into the 2000’s. The environment and food has evolved into total trash today. It’s been at least 7-8 years since I’ve stepped foot in one..and for good reason…

I was just talking to a coworker the other day about how good BK used to be in the 80s/90s. It was, I think, one of the better fast food burgers on the market. Somehow they f'ed that up.

So, 42nd & D and 114th & Dodge have closed. There's still a shocking number of BKs in the Omaha metro. Like 35 or so.

42nd & D was always unique. I believe it was the only one here ever not to have a dining room. You'd think with the trajectory fast food took in the past 4-5 years, that would have been an unforseen jumpstart on the future of fast food restaurants. I guess the location wasn't great, or the bridge project killed em.

42nd and D didn't have a dining room because they just took over a building that was previously a Hot N Now.

I remember when they first opened on Saddle Creek with the dual drive thrus I tried to order a cheeseburger without mustard; they said something along the lines of "To offer extremely fast and fresh food, we don't customize". I think they ended up changing that rule. Regardless, it didn't save them. LOL

Earlier in the year BK held a contest to create three new limited time Whoppers that has concluded, and they should be ready to drop soon. They are-

Fried pickle ranch Whopper
Maple bourbon BBQ Whopper
Mexican street corn Whopper

Now, I'd say I was pretty excited to see what they came up with. I personally think that fried pickle ranch Whopper sounds the most unique and able to work. The maple bourbon BBQ sounds really good too, it just doesn't seem very original. And Mexican street corn Whopper? Sounds nasty off the bat, but I bet I'll try all three. The last one was submitted by someone in Nebraska, though. The first two sound smackin to me, so I'm eager for them to come out.

Taco Bell expanded HnN too fast. Several hundred stores in about 2 years. I was with Taco Bell at the time. Much of the R&D was on-the-fly and not well implemented.

As per usual, BK has come out with their Halloween themed menu, with the main item being the "Wednesday Whopper", based from the Addams Family. It's all the same fixings of a Whopper, except (drum roll)... They added SWISS CHEESE. Dun dun dun.

Well, and it's on a purple bun, which is at least naturally colored. It's just terribly unimaginative. You add Swiss cheese to a Whopper, that's it. If it were me, I'd try and concoct some sort of savory berry pepper jam and FFS at least put some bacon on it.

In recent years I had looked forward to BK's Halloween release, as both last years Halloween Whopper, and the ghost pepper Whopper the year before we're both really good.

As a person who thinks pretty much anything, besides breakfast items, at Buger king, are completely inedible..A Halloween themed menu seems even more disgusting..

I see Bronco's has a "limited time only" burger named Henry's Frankenburger. It has two beef patties, a frankfurter, cheese, sauce, lettuce, and tomato on a toasted bun.

I love me some Bronco's. Wish I had one close to me. But I had the Frankenburger last year, it was good, but it wasnt really a hit for me. I love the spooky themes these places have come up with though, whether they hit or not. I think they can embrace the theme more.

I knew about Kings but just read about Bronco's. Kings at its peak had over 100 locations around the midwest mainly. I just read that Bronco's actually franchised & while it didn't say how many locations, ok, well, here...

I got in the true Halloween spirit and made my spin on a ghoulish burger for dinner tonight. I guess because BK'S crack at it was so unimaginative and sounds so bland. No fun. I think the spirit of Halloween is to explore, take risks, have fun, feel uncomfortable, and go out on a limb. So I put my mad food scientist lab coat on.

I ended up making what I was thinking the other day, I'll call it "savory jalapeño bacon blackberry jam". In true spooky fashion, it looked like a bubbling pot of blood-

It consists of blackberries, a jalapeño, a clove of garlic, a handful of red onion, black pepper, real bacon bits, and salt. It has contradictory ingredients, but it tastes pretty good and done with the spirit of Halloween in mind.

Of course, I don't have access to purple buns, so I just used sliced bread. I swapped in roasted garlic mayo, red onion, took out the tomato and ketchup, used leaf lettuce, and if I had the op, I'd have used fried pickle chips. It was fun to experiment with flavors that you don't think mix to make something tasty.

Does this sound like a burger anybody would dare to try?

The first Bronco Burger I ever went to was in Littleton, CO, when I lived in Denver. When we moved here in 2004, we went to the one on 72nd, and mentioned that to the guy who took our order. He said he’d been involved in opening the Littleton store. Don’t know who he actually was.

Godfather's was larger than Omaha--in 1982 there were storefronts in Dallas and according to Wikipedia there were 1000 stores.

I think that a quality pizza like GF is hard to supervise quality control if your goal is to be nationwide. Minsky's in KC does well because they're just KC. It's easy to be nationwide if all you want to do is sell McPizza, and sacrifice quality and consistency for volume.

I don't think GF knows what they want, and haven't for some time. From my (limited) perspective, they're happy to put outlets in Love's truckstops and that's it.

I had the Frankenburger last year, it was good, but it wasnt really a hit for me.

I wasn't trying to say it was the best burger ever. The Bronco's "Big SOB" is even better than Henry's Frankenburger.

Looks like Firehouse is at it again with another new, unique, and imaginative item, the Thanksgiving Turkey Sub. Looks like it consists of carved turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Looks like I'll be trying that soon. Firehouse is good at coming up with bangers.

Another one that's a bit of a surprise is Jimmy John's. They actually came out with a specialty item, the smoked cheddar bourbon club. It sounds good and it might get me in the door. Now, I'm no fan of Jimmy John's, I think I've bought it for myself one in my entire life.
