Re: Nebraska Football 2024
Well, I’m always glad to see Nebraska win. But I’ll admit, they didn’t play very well in the second half. Especially on offense. The defense was pretty good. Penalties are still a problem. They gotta clean that up.

Sure is nice seeing the Huskers not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like we've become so accustomed to the last handful of years.

Nebraska's off next week. After that, they play Indiana. Hopefully, they'll be rested up by then. Because they'll need to be. Indiana will be a pretty big challenge.

Not Nebraska football related, but an interesting tidbit: Florida State is 1-5.

Nebraska hasn't been 5-1 since 2014, unless you count 2016 when they started 7-0.Cermak wrote: Sat Oct 05, 2024 8:15 pm 5-1 haven’t seen that to often in the last 8 years. Maybe one other time ?

If Nebraska had Iowa’s remaining schedule they would have 10-11 wins….not sure how Iowa gets such weak schedules every year.

Also unranked Arkansas beats #4 Tennessee. Not sure this is good though. Probably just means they're gonna add two more SEC teams to the top 25.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
The kicker here is that we've been a part of the reason Iowa's schedules have been considered weak. Hope we can change that narrative this year.skinzfan23 wrote: Sun Oct 06, 2024 10:10 am If Nebraska had Iowa’s remaining schedule they would have 10-11 wins….not sure how Iowa gets such weak schedules every year.

Wow, didn't know Michigan and USC lost.
Anyway, I was never a fan of early season rankings. The rankings really don't start to shake out and actually be somewhat accurate until like maybe week 8 or 10.

Huskers sitting at 5-1 right now..I believe only 2 home games left on their schedule..
I think NU can win 3 of their remaining games and finish with 8 wins.. Yesterdays offensive performance, especially in the 2nd half, was awful..Probably Dylan’s worst game. He seemed to lose a bit of confidence after her threw the interception and was holding the ball a bit too long in the pocket. The staff will coach him up though..
Winning at Indiana in a couple weeks would be a HUGE confidence boost for him and the team heading to Ohio St…

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
Here are Nebraska's and Indiana's strength of schedule after week 5 according to collegefootballnetwork.com (https://collegefootballnetwork.com/2024 ... -schedule/)
Nebraska:
Preseason: 43
Remainder of the season: 11
Indiana:
Preason: 63
Remainder of the season: 35
Based on this it shows Indiana had and has an easier schedule than Nebraska. Makes sense when you compare each other's opponents (# of FCS teams, G5, P4 etc....)
This is college football so anything can happen (Vandy vs Bama and Tenn vs Ark for example)

While true, Indiana has handled each opponent quite easily. The story of the day will be Nebraska's defense vs Indiana's offense, and if Illinois was a litmus, I would wager against our ability to do so. Especially if the offense can't generate much.

Since Nebraska doesn’t have a game this week, will anyone be watching other CFB games on Saturday?

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
Can't say I will be. But with the new format for the Big Ten championship, all the more any other teams beat up on eachother, the better. Nebraska sitting pretty in a 3 way tie for third. Can't remember the last time we could say that.mrsticka wrote: Thu Oct 10, 2024 6:21 pm Since Nebraska doesn’t have a game this week, will anyone be watching other CFB games on Saturday?
Oddly enough, no matter how the weekend shakes out, Indiana will be tied for first. Ohio state faces Oregon, so one of them will end up 3-0 and tied for first. Hope Penn State loses to USC.
That game against Indiana actually turns out to be a pivotal game. The Skers win that, they're going to be tied for second, which would be great place to be. Remember, the Big Ten went to a variation of round robin, the two teams with the best conference record play for the championship. There's still plenty of opportunity left.

I think conference champions should be determined by an 8-team tournament where the teams with the best records get invited to the tournament. And the last team standing is the champion. That's how it's done in basketball and baseball.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
I'm feeling kinda hopeful. Indiana may be in first place, but they've played who? Three easy non conference games, and against three of the bottom four teams in the Big Ten. They're better statistically in every category, but again they've played next to nobody. The Huskers have that lone OT loss to middle ground Illinois. It'll be a huge opportunity that I think the Huskers will seize. Probably their biggest, most meaningful opportunity in (?), since that game at Wisconsin in 2016, so 90 ish games ago? And let's be honest, they've got the numbers, but it's still Indiana. Not exactly a powerhouse, so why I think they're only ranked 18, despite being 6-0.

Yeah, I guess that's true. Indiana's just beat up on cupcakes this year. They haven't met a real team yet. That'll change next week.Busguy2010 wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 7:10 pm I'm feeling kinda hopeful. Indiana may be in first place, but they've played who? Well, Illinois just narrowly avoided getting upset by Purdue winning 50-49 in overtime.
And Penn State also avoided an upset by USC 33-30 in overtime.
#3 Oregon just upset #2 Ohio State 32-31. It's party time in Eugene.

I heard that was a pretty good game tonight. I was actually hoping Ohio State would win so they'd be more highly ranked, on the off chance we beat them in two weeks.

Oregon was technically upset, but they were the home team, and the line had them only as a 3-point dog.mrsticka wrote: Sat Oct 12, 2024 6:20 pm Well, Illinois just narrowly avoided getting upset by Purdue winning 50-49 in overtime.

Wis Ohio St had won. Now The Huskers have to play them after they have a buy week and coming off losing their last game.

It's been tough to be real confident in the Skers, but I feel good about this one. I at least expect them not to be curb stomped, but I actually think they're gonna eek out a close win. Huge opportunity here. First win against a ranked opponent on the road since 2011 at Penn State, first win against a ranked opponent period since Michigan State 2015. Also depending how it shakes out, a win puts them in a big tie for first or second.mrsticka wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2024 11:50 pm Well, Nebraska's game against Indiana is coming up in a couple days.

That would be great, and I kinda agree with a close win. They definitely have a chance, unlike next week. I think the Huskers have lost 27 games in a row to top 25 teams, so this would be a great chance to end that streak.

Until we see a stronger commitment to run the ball I have less confidence in this game and the rest of the season. I agree this game is a big opportunity and a win against Indiana(over-rated or not) would be the biggest win for Rhule at Nebraska.
If they don't win this game it's likely that UCLA would be the only game left that the Huskers would be favored.

Re: Nebraska Football 2024
No, even if they lose to Indiana they should be favored(win) vs UCLA which would still be the 6 wins for bowl eligibility. But...I think that would be a disappointing season for most of Husker Nation and considered an underachievement given the relatively soft schedule.Busguy2010 wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2024 12:34 pmSo yer saying if they don't win tomorrow, 5-7 is still on the table. I'm losing patience with Rhule to make good on running the ball which he emphasized right after getting hired. If you watched the Broncos last night vs the Saints that's a good example of what Nebraska should be doing to have success in the BIG10. Denver hadn't run the ball all that well this season but early in last nights game they committed to pounding the rock and it payed off big(and also opened up their passing game). The closest we've seen to that was in the Colorado game but their defense is really bad.
It's feels like Nebraska's offense spends more time in practice on the passing game. I want to see a game where they run the ball and keep running it until they get it right. If that means putting in Haarberg more(even behind center) let's do it. Having him come in for a series a game isn't well disguised for a defense. I don't think any opposing defense is expecting Raiola to run much beyond broken plays. We haven't had a back run for over a hundred yards in a game this year. Collectively that equals an offense that's largely one dimensional and easier to defend.
