No, the 2 structures take up most of the lot and they are adding some ground level parking on the eastern portion. There appears to be very little green space on the property from the plans that I have.

I think it’s a baseball practice facility, but yes it did sound as if they’d be next to each other.

Yeah that's what was reported when they got the money from the legislature. John Bishop even confirmed it at the time.

Well depending on how the North Omaha streetcar study goes this could be on a line eventually, though I’d prefer a grocery store with more central access. I’m also curious how they would define “on-campus”

I heard someone describe the difference between a Southern Baptist and a Roman Catholic (actually it was a Presbyterian but whatever). When two Southern Baptist acquaintances bump into one another at a liquor store neither will acknowledge the other’s presence. When the acquaintances are both Catholic they will smile and wave.

I haven't seen anything for the baseball renderings yet, but I do know that they applied to vacate Burt St so they would have a little more room.

Just to close the loop here, the baseball facility plans and Burt St changes were approved by the planning commission in November. My understanding from folks at CU is that they anticipate the softball stadium (already under construction) will be ready this summer, and the baseball practice facility will open in 2026.

The baseball team will still play games at the Chuck; contrary to earlier reports this is just a practice facility for the Jays and CWS teams, essentially replacing the one adjacent to the current softball stadium with a newer, much nicer one.

Once complete the old CU Sports Complex will be torn down and turned into a five-acre green space.

Yeah, I'd been under the impression it was going to be a stadium where they'd play some (not all) games -- and that's certainly how it had been reported. But they were pretty clear that it's practice-only in the minutes of that meeting. Wild.

"Mr. Scott stated that for item 25, the plan is to build a practice field for Creighton baseball which would also be used for College World Series practice and intermural play. He stated that the alleys are to continue that connection between the bike path from east to west and pedestrian malls. Mr. Scott stated that for item 26, the plan is to move their baseball and softball fields to build a five-acre campus green where they currently are.

In response to Mr. Pate, Mr. Scott stated that Creighton baseball games will not be moved to this site."

Yeah I am really bummed by this. Was excited for them to build something on campus that might have a little atmosphere. I love what UNO has.

Those stands would be pretty small for D-1 baseball. I don't see it being anything close to a full time facility and likely would be extremely limited on options for concessions, restrooms, etc. I would certainly say this would put CU in 3rd place when it comes to the 3 D-1 baseball teams in terms of facilities if they used it for games. Now, I could certainly see that being a placeholder on plans should a donor of substance step forward to pony up money towards a better facility....assuming there is enough room in the area.

At best, these current plans, would be doable for some early march/april dates where you wouldn't expect much in the way of attendance.

Oh they are in 3rd place already. Schwab is a mausoleum for college baseball. It's not a real atmosphere at all. I consider Creighton baseball to be somewhat homeless having to play there. It will never be their stadium or field. They are just tenants wearing ill fitting clothes.
