Pretty close game until Nebraska made that run at the end. 85-68 skers.

The crowd looked solid. It's more than I expected to see. I did not go based on the road forecast, and I am glad I didn't have to drive back to Gretna. Believe I80 was closed by that time
On top of that, the Huskers looked good.
For the record NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER !!!!!!!

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2024-2025
I was supposed to be coaching Friday night but fortunately our game got cancelled (the one before us played so I thought we were going to as well). Was able to go back home and watch the game. Was happy with the crowd and the bounce back win. Then watched volleyball. A great night.nebugeater wrote: Sat Dec 14, 2024 3:39 pm

The game was a lot closer than the 85-68 final score indicated. I think it finished on a 17-1 run by NU. I can't ever remember a game where Nebraska finished on that kind of run.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2024-2025
Brice Williams is Big 10 player of the week. First one since a blast from the past, Alonso Verge Jr in 2022:
Senior guard Brice Williams was honored Monday afternoon, as he was tabbed as the Big Ten Player of the Week Monday following the Huskers’ win over Indiana.
Williams paced Nebraska with a season-high 30 points, along with a season-high six rebounds and five assists in NU’s 85-68 win over the Hoosiers. A 6-foot-7 senior guard from Huntersville, N.C., Williams was 10-of-15 from the field and 8-of-11 from the foul line en route to posting his fourth career 30-point game and first as a Husker. He scored nine of his 30 points in the final 6:30 after Indiana closed to within 68-67. Williams became just the second Husker in the Big Ten era (2011-12 to present) to have 30 points and five assists in a game.
On the season, Williams is averaging 18.9 points per game on 50 percent shooting and has four 20-point games for the Huskers, who are 7-2 heading into this week’s Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.
Williams is the first Husker to earn the Big Ten’s Player-of-the-Week Award since Alonzo Verge Jr. on March 7, 2022.

Another honor for Brice:
Senior guard Brice Williams received his second weekly honor on Tuesday afternoon, as he was one of five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week for games ending Dec. 15.
Williams was joined on this week’s list by Lamont Butler (Kentucky), Tarence Guinyard (UT Martin), Jamichael Stillwell (Milwaukee) and Taryn Todd (Arkansas State) as the USBWA continues its national player of the week program that has been affiliated with the Oscar Robertson Trophy since the 2009-10 season. Prior to last season, the USBWA had recognized just one player each week.
Williams received the weekly award for the second time in his career, as he received the weekly honor when he was at Charlotte on Jan. 3, 2023. Williams is the first Husker to win the weekly award.

Huskers win game 1 in the Diamond Head Classic convincingly:
Andrew Morgan and Connor Essegian combined for 27 points off the bench, while Nebraska’s defense held Murray State to a season-low point total in a 66-49 win in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic Sunday evening.
Morgan posted his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Essegian led Nebraska (8-2) with 15 points, including five 3-pointers. In all, NU’s bench outscored the Racers, 29-11.

Rollie Worster was the third Husker in double figures with 11 points, as Nebraska shot nearly 50 percent from the field and enjoyed a 40-26 advantage on the glass.
Nebraska will play Hawai’i, a 78-61 winner over Charlotte, Monday at 9:30 p.m. (central) on ESPN2 and on the Husker Sports Network.
Nebraska put on a defensive clinic in the first half, holding Murray State to just four field goals in the opening 20 minutes in building a 34-14 halftime lead. Nebraska held the Racers to 4-of-28 shooting from the field, including 1-of-13 inside the arc.
Juwan Gary got the Huskers scoring seven of NU’s first nine points in the first 5:15 of the game, as his 3-point play with 14:45 left in the half ignited a 16-0 spurt for Nebraska. The Huskers held MSU scoreless for over six minutes in building a 22-4 lead after a steal and basket from Brice Williams.
Murray State rallied behind Kylen Milton, who scored seven straight points in a 50-second span, including a four-point play to trim the lead to 22-11 with 7:44 left in the half.
Nebraska, which got 17 first-half points from its bench, responded with a pair of 3-pointers from Essegian, who finished with nine first-half points. Nebraska stretched the lead to 20 after consecutive baskets from Morgan.

The teams would trade baskets and NU led 57-38 with just over seven minutes left before the Racers, who shot 48 percent from the field after halftime made one last run. MSU went on an 11-4 run to pull to within 61-49 on a 3-pointer from Kylen Milton with 3:33 left, but would get no closer as a jumper by Wooster and Essegian’s fifth 3-pointer of the night accounted for the final margin.

Connor was shooting and making 3's from such a deep range that Chris Cresswell would be proud.

With Nebraska facing Hawaii tonight, I saw online that their record against Hawaii is only 2 and 7 all time, with our last win against them in 1976....

Yeah we were down at least 9 very early in the game, might have been more, as I was watching as I was getting ready for bed. I know Nebraska had a 7-0 run close to half. I fell asleep watching before halftime ended.nebugeater wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 12:23 pm The Huskers beat Hawaii 69-55 last night. Half time was only Huskers 29-27. Was supposed to start at 9:30 our time but think it was even later because of the the semifinal game before it when to OT.

Very fun game to watch. Back and forth in the second half. Then Nebraska seemed to keep getting to a 6 point lead for the longest time but never pushing it more. Then Oregon State would cut it down. I had my doubts on the win.
Also, first tournament win since the San Juan Shootout in 2000. Man starting back in the Nee era, seems like we were in the San Juan Shootout almost as much as Lawrence KS and Ames Iowa. Hearing San Juan Shootout took me down memory lane and all those players back in the day.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2024-2025
Wrapped up the non-conference schedule with a 34 point win:
Connor Essegian had a game-high 20 points to lead three Huskers in double figures, while Nebraska put together a dominant defensive effort in a 77-43 win over Southern Monday evening.
Essegian matched his career high with six 3-pointers en route to his third 20-point night of the season and grabbed seven boards, as Nebraska improved to 11-2 on the season with its fifth straight win.
Brice Williams had 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists while Andrew Morgan had 10 points off the bench, as Nebraska extended its home win streak to 19 games. Six Huskers had at least eight points, as Nebraska had 22 assists on its 26 field goals, including six assists by Rollie Worster and a career-high by Sam Hoiberg. The Huskers also matched a season high with 13 3-pointers.
Nebraska’s defense was the story, as the Huskers held Southern to just 25.4 percent shooting, including 3-of-24 from 3-point range. It was the lowest percentage allowed by Nebraska since Nov. 6, 2018. Nebraska held eight of its 12 opponents to under 40 percent shooting.
Nebraska got out quickly, racing out to a 12-2 lead in the first 5:09 to force Southern to take an early timeout. Williams keyed the run with seven early points before a jumper from Berke Büyüktuncel and a 3-pointer from Juwan Gary gave NU an early 10-point cushion.
The Huskers, who held Southern to 5-of-27 shooting in the first half, used a 11-0 run keyed by a pair of Connor Essegian 3-pointers to build a 22-point lead at 30-8 with 5:07 remaining in the half. NU eventually pushed the lead to 26 on a Büyüktuncel triple as Nebraska hit 5-of-11 from the arc in the opening 20 minutes.
Nebraska eventually stretched the lead to 30 at 53-23 after an 8-0 with 12:59 left. Southern eventually made a run, cutting a 31-poont deficit to 62-40 after a 9-0 spurt capped by a 3-pointer from Jayce Depron with just under six minutes remaining. The Jaguars (5-8) would get no closer as Worster’s layup stated a game-closing 12-2 spurt, including eight points from Gavin Griffiths, for the final margin.
Depron finished with 13 points and was the only Southern player in double figures.
The Huskers are in action on Saturday afternoon, as the Huskers host No. 15 UCLA. Tipoff is set 1 p.m. (CT) and the game will be broadcast on FOX and can be heard across the Huskers Radio Network. Tickets are available by visiting Huskers.com/Tickets.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2024-2025
Very solid effort the first half against an out classed tea. Sloppy for large stretches in the 2nd half. The bright spot was Gavin Griffiths. He entered the game and hit some three's and really made an impact and kept the game from getting close or even closer than it should have been. Would love for this to be a spring board for him. He'd kind of fallen off the radar.
Now, back to the Big 10.

The turnovers in the second half were very sloppy, but to still win by 30+ certainly feels good.

Tough home game tomorrow hosting #15 UCLA. Actually, a tough stretch ahead with playing at Iowa, at #20 Purdue, hosting Rutgers, then traveling to play at Maryland.

Not a ton of tickets available for tomorrow's tilt with UCLA. Only a smaller number availalbe for resale. Thought there would be some available at a decent price with students on winter break. Not the case.

24-24 at the half. Definitely a game of streaks. Also some ugly play at times, possibly due to good D.

Nebraska won 66-58. Good for them. So now they’re 12-2. If they keep this up, they could earn a first round bye in the Big Ten Tournament and get invited to the NCAA Tournament again.

Re: Nebraska Basketball 2024-2025
The way UCLA started, and with our their defense was playing, I thought Nebraska was in trouble. Nebraska was down 7-0 (and struggling mightily on offense). After that though, NU outscored them 66-51....mrsticka wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:58 pm Nebraska won 66-58. Good for them. So now they’re 12-2. Very tough couple of weeks on the way. Gary Sharp was saying on 1620 that KenPom has Nebraska losing 6 of their next 8 games.....
