2024 NFL Season

Post by Busguy2010 »

There didn't seem to be a specific NFL thread for this season...

BUT, as a Lions fan, I have to shout out Jared Goff. As far as I know, he has the first ever 100% completion rate for a NFL game as a QB since they started keeping track?

18/18, 292 yards, 2 touchdowns, and a reception touchdown 🤯🤯🤯

Drew Brees held the previous record. Rare air.

Dan Patrick said this morning that Kurt Warner had done it once.

I was at Ford Field last night. Yes, Goff & the offense were amazing. I would have liked to see some defense as well. We had what, 20 or 30 penalties?

That's sweet! I haven't been there since they've gotten good. It must have been electric!

It's a whole new experience. We moved here in 2008 & I was at game 10 of the 16 loss season. Downtown is electric pre and post game. Ford Field is like watching in a huge living room. The place is crazy loud.

As a Redskins/Commanders fan, it is great seeing Jayden Daniels off to a hot start as well. I think he has the highest comp % in NFL history through 4 games at 82.1, including 88.6% in the past 2 games. As a team, they have only punted once in the past 3 games.

I bet, I'd love to be there now. The last game I went to was Thanksgiving, I believe 2016. I'd have to go back, but they lost to the Vikings that day.

Much love to Matthew Stafford, or as I call him "Statt Mafford" due to his incredulous stats with the Lions. Was super happy for his super bowl win with the Rams too. But I'm really proud of how Jared Goff took on the doubt and the challenge.

So i found out that is correct, Kurt Warner did do it 10/10 passes in 2005. Wonder why that site didn't include it... But by any means, Kurt Warner is also one of my favorite, so glad to see our QB match his greatness.

Sorry Cowboy. I have numerous other friends and coworkers that are also Cowboys fans. I'm super proud of my Lions tonight. So exciting to watch, all the variations in play, and the heart they play with. Plus all the times they trol-lol'ed trying to get a lineman a touchdown today. If nobody esle recalls, it was against the Cowboys late last season the refs blew (or was that a favor?) an ineligible receiver call that ultimately f*cked the Lions out of the 1 seed. I never thought I'd be watching this happen as it has. The Lions are actually good. REALLY good. I really wanted them to pull the starters when it went up 34-6. Game was over at that point. That would have avoided Aidan Hutchinson breaking his leg. That's gonna suck, probably took a Super Bowl odds hit.

I was happy that they put the game on for the last 4-5 min and Washington was up 12-0 and was going to lose after the Bears put together 2 great drives (really 3 but they fumbled at the 1 yd line) Washington did everything right with the limited time and only 1 timeout. They even threw an out-route to get an extra 12 yds or so to set up the last play.

I was 1/2 watching it and then when they caught the ball I went nuts and scared my kids. It kinda reminded me of the Nebraska game against NW about 8-10 years ago when Westerkamp caught the tip in the endzone. These plays don't happen often but they are great when they do.

As for the Bears' guy, not sure why he tipped it, you always want to bat that down in that situation.

I was glad to see somebody not named Aaron Rodgers do it. He did it a week or two ago to end the first half. To do it to win is obviously a bigger deal. Doesn't happen often at all and it did remind me of the Huskers hail mary.

I'm going with my son & some friends. No promises but I'll try to take pics. When I moved here they went 0-16. I never thought I'd see this. Game day downtown is electric.

I hope the Lions make a good go of it. I still have a horse in the race from a FFB standpoint so it's not completely altruistic, but they've had a good run and would be nice to see someone different make a deep run.

NICE!!! Thanks for sharing! Last time I went was 2017 Thanksgiving and they, oddly enough, lost to the Vikings. I sure hope this game goes different! Be sure to make some |expletive| noise when the Vikings have the ball! This is such a huge game. Of the 272 games played this season, I cannot think of one bigger, and it's the last game! Cannot understate it. im so excited, I been cheezing all day. LFG!

Shouldda won the frackin Super Bowl last year too. My concern is were the most injured team in the league. We'd be completely and utterly unstoppable if 100%. If anybody gets us, it's due to injury. But my optimism is that if the good guys can score 40 plus per game, they should be able to win it. They've proven they can do that plenty of times.

Just gotta complete that small task of scoring 40+ points a game to win it all, no big deal. It’s fun seeing all these new Lions fans that I’m sure have been big fans for a long time.

WOO!! Didn't even need to do that!

31-9. Compelling victory.

I've been a Lions fan since Barry Sanders and I was a little kid. Just hasn't been much to be proud of in a LONG time.

Congrats! Jayden Daniels is having a really exciting rookie season.

My only request: get Luke McCaffrey more involved in the offense!

Don't know if there's truth to it, but I heard the NFL may consider changing the playoff format, removing the stipulation that division winners automatically get the home field advantage. I think I like this idea, it seems fair.

However, I think that should also involve eliminating divisions all together. Every conference team plays each other once, with the best team coming out on top, and seeding the rest according to record. Though, that would make for *only* a 15 game season, so I'd even weigh the possibility of adding 4 new expansion teams so they can get back to a 17 game season.

Losing the divisions would be unfortunate. Playing a division team twice per year means that I have more familiarity with (and animosity towards!) that team.

I get that, but that's also what leads to weak division winning teams getting in over stronger second place teams in other divisions.

I think by now I have a deeply ingrained animosity toward the Packers, Vikings, and Bears. Beating them up once a year would be enough for me lol

I think playing round robin is the only way to truly determine the best team. Everybody plays everybody. The problem now is any good team in a weak division basically gets 6 free wins because they play the same weak teams.

I don’t really hear anyone complain about the current league format or playoff format. If you can’t be one of the top 7 teams in your conference you shouldn’t be in. Almost half the league makes the playoffs as is.

That's not the complaint. It's mainly from Vikings fans who, as a result of coming in second place to a 15-2 (Lions), as a 14-3 team, had to go on the road to play a 10-7 team in the Rams, because the Rams won their relatively weak division. And even as a Lions fan, I cannot blame them. I mean, I know the proof was in the pudding last night, but perhaps the game would have gone differently if it had been in Minneapolis.

I am of the opinion that the teams should be seeded according to record, and the only true way to sort that out is for every team to play every other team in each conference, thus you'd have to eliminate divisions.

Look at it this way, the Rams got to beat up on the 9ers for two freebies, whereas the Vikings had to contend with the Lions (best team in the league :D ) and the Packers who were also a playoff team. The NFC North was the toughest division in the league this year. Even as a Lions fan, them having to go on the road doesn't sit right, just cause that's how it currently works with divisions. If the Lions had lost that last regular season game, they'd have been in that same situation, so I empathize with their situation, even as a foe.

Limiting teams to conference only would be more boring as a fan in my opinion. Having divisions builds some ā€œhatredā€ and great rivalries with two matchups a year and sometimes a third in the postseason. But I wouldn’t be opposed to a better postseason ranking. I’m rooting for your lions in the NFC!

Here is a compromise I could wholeheartedly support:
  • eliminate divisions
  • play a round-robin schedule within your conference
  • eliminate playoffs; the Super Bowl pits the AFC champion against the NFC champion
