Omaha Maverick Hockey 2024-2025

Post by Coyote »

Mavericks Add Alaska Leading Scorer, Risk, To 2024-25 Roster

The Omaha Mavericks have announced the addition of former Alaska Fairbanks forward, Brady Risk, for the 2024-25 season. Risk, who is entering his fifth year, led the Nanooks in points last season with 13 goals and 20 assists for a career best 33 points. Donning an alternate captain "A" on his sweater last year, Risk was a +8 in 32 games played.

"Getting an opportunity to take my 5th year at Omaha is a dream come true. The world-class facilities, along with the incredible support from the community is an environment every college hockey player dreams of being in," Risk said. "I am excited to have the opportunity to play under an experienced and successful coaching staff, and alongside a great group of players who have built a winning culture."

Mavericks Bolster Roster with Former Two-Time Alaska Captain Harrison Israels

The Omaha Mavericks double-up on Alaska forwards as they announce the signing of former Nanooks two-time captain, Harrison Israels. Lighting the lamp 20 times last season, Israels was Alaska's leading goal scorer. Playing in 33 of the 34 Fairbanks contests, he was tied for second on the team in points with 27.

"I chose Omaha because of the incredible opportunity it provides myself next season. The program has an amazing history of success as well as being able to move players to the next level," Israels said. "The entire organization is first class and getting the chance to play in the NCHC against the best competition is very exciting. I'm looking forward to helping bring a championship to Omaha!"

Mavericks Add Former Badger Stange to 2024-25 Roster

The Omaha Mavericks have added former Wisconsin Badger forward Sam Stange to the 2024-25 roster. Stange, a 2020 fourth round NHL draft pick of the Detroit Red Wings, joins the Mavericks after 106 career games with the Badgers. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin native totaled 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points at Wisconsin. "I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to play at Omaha for my fifth year. The chance to develop under this coaching staff and play in front of the Baxter faithful is something I could not pass up," Stange said. "The top-notch facilities and resources available to us, along with a great locker room, is also something I'm very excited for. I'm grateful to be a Maverick and I can't wait to get started."

Stange has three multi-point games under his belt including a two-goal performance against Penn State his freshman season. During his junior campaign, he logged points in four of five contests from 12/2/22 - 12/28/22 against Michigan, Minnesota and Lake Superior State. The Maverick newcomer is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was also named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar athlete his sophomore season. Stange also received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award in his second year.

Mavericks Announce Addition of Former Minnesota Forward Garrett Pinoniemi

Omaha Hockey adds former Minnesota center, Garrett Pinoniemi to the 2024-25 roster. Pinoniemi appeared in 64 games for the Gophers recording three goals and three assists. Playing in 29 games his freshman year, the Mound, Minnesota native helped the Gophers to a Frozen Four and national championship game berth. Before Minnesota, Pinoniemi played three seasons with the Sioux Falls Stampede in the USHL totaling 120 games. He registered 24 goals and 51 assists for 75 points during his USHL career. In three seasons, he logged 14 multi-point performances for the Stampede. "It was clear that Omaha has something special going on and I appreciate the opportunity to get to be a part of it. From the coaching staff, to the players, to the fans, I'm impressed with everyone. I am looking forward to getting started," Pinoniemi said.

Mavericks Add Depth to Blue Line with Addition of Dylan Gratton

The Omaha Mavericks have added former Penn State defenseman Dylan Gratton to the 2024-25 roster. "I had a lot of really good conversations with everyone on the coaching staff and it seemed like they all are very in tune with the developmental side of the game," Gratton said. "They are very invested in all of their players, as well as believing in them that they can accomplish the goals they want to some day achieve."

A native of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Gratton joins the Mavericks after his freshman and sophomore seasons at Penn State. Gratton appeared in 69 games for the Nittany Lions scoring five goals (1 GWG) and adding 19 assists. The new Maverick blueliner has four multi-point games under his belt. Last season he recorded a three-game point streak where he logged five points (1g, 4a). He blocked 63 shots last season which was sixth most in the Big 10. Gratton visited the penalty box just two times while at Penn State, once each season.

Before Penn State, Gratton played in 153 games in the USHL totaling 44 points. He helped lead the Sioux City Musketeers to the 2022 Clark Cup Championship.

Omaha kicked off the 2024-2025 season last night with an Exhibition Game against Wisconsin (Coached by Mike Hastings).

Score doesn't really matter in an Exhibition, Omaha looked good against Wisconsin!

Rough weekend at home getting swept by Augustana. We will need good coaching and development with the offense as the season unfolds. The goaltending is still top notch.

Great weekend for the Mavs. While Miami is the last place team in the league, its was good weekend for the team to grow and get some additional game time together before the home stretch of the season.

Saturday, Miami 1 - Omaha 8

Omaha is now ties for 4th, and only 1 point out of second, 6 points out of first.

Omaha has this weekend off before traveling to St Cloud State next week.

That's odd. I don't remember any price increases. I know my season tickets didn't go up. Plus they've run specials on most of the games before this weekend.

I see buy one get one deals for the upper bowl quite frequently on the Omaha hockey, social media pages.

There are plenty for Friday night for $17 showing right now on ticketmaster, plus some pairs that are resale on there even cheaper.

For Saturday, right now it shows $27 but I would keep an eye out for ones for resale as we get closer if you can't go Friday.

Thanks! I was looking for tickets (pretty much anything but behind the nets) on UNO’s site - it looks like they add in the TicketMaster fees when they show the price, whereas I thought that was the base price as if you got it at the box office. I was like yeesh!

Yeah Ticketmaster fees are awful. I assume you still avoid all fees by going to the box office, though I don’t know if you can buy the resale ones that way.

It does look like prices have fallen on the resale ones from earlier this week. I saw some for tonight as low as $13 on Ticketmaster (before fees of course).

Good news is Omaha is only 2 points out of First Place.

Bad News is they sill play everyone in the top 6 yet this year and Western has 2 games in hand so Western could easily gain 6 points on Omaha. Going to be a tough final 10 games to end the season.

I didn't realize until just now that Arizona State is in the same conference as Omaha.
  • ASU has 80,000 students. Omaha has 15,000.
  • How can you play ice hockey in the desert?

It didn't. There were more white jersey's in the building than I've ever seen, really. (Rick J. wore a old-bull jersey that he probably hasn't worn in 15 years...) It was a bit more noticeable before the game because of the towels on each seat, but after people arrived, it was mostly black and red, with a handful of white here and there. Nothing remotely close to "striping".

Memo to file: If you want to attempt that, you hand out T-SHIRTS not towels. (Black towels almost completely disappear when people are waving them.)

I doesn't seem like the "____ Outs" are as good as they could UNO games because they have too many casual fans that don't get the memo about wearing a certain color, and also never take their coat off.

That said, noting has been worse than the Blackout against North Dakota. It made those green jerseys really stick out.

I'm just happy for another sweep and a loss by ASU, Omaha is now in second place in the NCHC!

Team of the Week: Omaha

Jordan McAlpine wrote:However, Mike Gabinet’s club has caught fire of late, winning six straight and seven of their last eight, and Omaha sits second in the NCHC standings with 29 points — one behind Western Michigan.

“I think we’ve just been growing all year long,” Gabinet said. “Our sports psychologist did a little thing on gratitude (last week) and one of the things I shared with the team is that I’m grateful for how much they love to learn, and they’re working. It’s not every day that you can be coached hard and challenged, and have high standards. Those things aren’t fun to deal with sometimes, and I like how this group has really embraced that growth mindset.

Omaha Hockey wins longest-ever NCHC shootout after 16 rounds

https://omavs.com/news/2025/2/1/-rv-hoc ... -16-rounds
omavs.com wrote:DENVER – (RV) Omaha Hockey (14-10-1, 10-4-1 NCHC) continued its seven-game unbeaten streak as it officially tied with No. 5 Denver (18-6-1, 7-5-1 NCHC) but won the longest shootout the NCHC has ever seen after 16 rounds when senior defensemand and captain Nolan Krenzen put a bow on the game in the opening game "Mile-High City" on Friday night at Magness Arena.

The Mavericks record of 7-1-1 this past month was their best January in program history.

Junior goaltender Simon Latkoczy made 39 saves and was named the game's first star in his 75th career game (74th start).

The Mavericks were able to come out and match the pace of the defending national champions.

At this point there are still quite a few in the upper bowl on the ends. Should be another good game if anyone wanted to go.
