What does the non-sellout at the Civic for Friday and Saturday say about UNO hockey? Could the Mavs really have drawn 10,000+ to the Qwest Center for Michigan had the high school wrestling tournament not moved them back to the bullpen?

Maybe not 10,000, but UNO probably lost about 1,000 fans in the skyboxes and in the club seats (tickets controlled by MECA/Qwest Center). So, factor in those fans plus fans who would have walked up if it wasn't sold out, UNO probably would have had at least 9,000...

Doesn't matter what the Mavs do, the Minnesota Golden Gophers have all but wrapped up their 3rd national championship in 5 years after going 17-2-1 over their last 20 games. Every home game they play is above capacity with over 10,000 fans in attendance. UNO doesn't have a chance to compete with that until high school hockey is played in Nebraska... in other words, it will never happen.

Great news for the Mavericks.

And once again, the Knights came up last (the World Herald didn't even put them under the 'Also' subtitles under the Mavs story).

Saturday night hockey attendance
Mavs: 6,016
Lancers: 4,200
Knights: 3,286

Mavs' Parse makes history

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38&u_sid=2128258
Parse's goal gave the junior 145 career points at UNO, which moves him past former Mavs standout David Brisson on the school's all-time points list. And remember, Parse has done in less than three seasons what Brisson did in four.

When you score the other team has to "fish" the puck out of the net. So the first goal of every game the "Fish guy" throws a big carp on to the ice and the "Mav Bonie" drives out and picks up the fish. They have been doing it every game since back in the civic days. They even have a sponsor for the fish now, Charlies on the Lake.

I'm a Mav season ticket holder. I enjoyed watching the sweep this weekend. For those that have not been though, go to a Knights game as well. The level of hockey there is awesome, plus I think the Civic has the best hockey sight lines of any arena I've ever been to at any level.

Parse Wins Preliminary Voting Phase in Vote for Hobey

http://www.hobeybaker.com/
Nebraska-Omaha's Scott Parse led the way in the Prelphase of 2006 Vote for Hobey, edging teammate Bill Thomas, Ferris State's Greg Rallo and Wisconsin's Brian Elliott in the balloting.

Fans' choices in the Preliminary Voting phase will be combined with ballots from the 59 head coaches in Division I college hockey to determine the 10 finalists for the award, to be announced March 16.

Beginning March 17, fans can return for the Final Voting phase of Vote for Hobey, where they can cast one ballot for their top three choices for the award.

Scott Parse

Post by HskrFanMike »

Scott Parse's eventual game-winning goal Saturday night was simply a thing of beauty. A perfect pass from Bill Thomas and a slapshot that was "nothing but net".

Hopefully, that isn't the last we'll see of Scott Parse in action. I'm sure the Kings are very interested in getting him into camp.

After scoring a hat trick yesterday in the third period alone, Ryan Potulny of the #1 ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers virtually all but locked up his bid to win the Hobey Baker Award.

However, UNO's Scott Parse should finish a distant 3rd in the voting behind Potulny and Matt Carle from Denver U.

Parse named CCHA player of the year

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38&u_sid=2134962
UNO's Scott Parse was named the CCHA player of the year Thursday night in Detroit during the league's annual awards banquet. He becomes the first Maverick to win the honor.

Parse, now one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker award, leads the NCAA with 61 points. In just his third year at UNO, the Portage, Mich., native also became the school's all-time leading scorer when he notched his 145th career point during the first round of the league playoffs.

We should know more about Parse's UNO hockey future tonight and tomorrow. Lots of games, and lots of possibilities for UNO to get a ticket to the "Big Skate". There are more scenarios that have UNO than omit UNO.

It's really weird that UNO has to root against a school named "Bentley" to get into the NCAA tournament, though...

Future Hobey Baker award winner Ryan Potulny scored 4 goals last night to virtually lock up his quest to win the 2006 Hobey Baker award. Potulny is a former Lincoln Star. I am afraid Parse is going to come up short, but he still had a good season.

UNO POST SEASON

UNO rides out a waiting game

http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=38& ... nd=5823332
There's no question that the UNO hockey team still burns about having to sit at home this weekend while the CCHA's final four took place in Detroit.

But maybe, if everything works out for the Mavs like they hope that it will, losing last weekend at Northern Michigan might not be such a bad thing after all.

As announced by College Hockey News' Adam Wodon late Friday night, the University of Nebraska at Omaha now appears in solid position to earn its first trip to the NCAA tournament. No matter what happened in conference tournament play on Saturday, Wodon said, the mathematical formula used by the selection committee always comes up with the Mavs making the NCAAs.

UNO will learn for sure whether it's in the tournament at 10 a.m. today, when the 16-team field is unveiled on ESPN2.

ESPN is also syndicating the game, so it is available to all of our local TV stations.

Hear that 6, 7, 15, and 42? (Channel 3 gets a pass because of the basketball tournament.) Get this game on BROADCAST TV.
