2025 College World Series

Post by iamjacobm »

UNO is joining Creighton as cohost of the CWS. Not sure what all actually comes with hosting but I’d imagine they get their logo on the outfield fence like Creighton. Nice exposure for them with the NCAA ops team I’d think.

Also looks like they are doing some extra events this year for the 75th anniversary of the CWS in Omaha.

I think some of it might just be recognizing UNO for the work they have already been doing for years now. I have covered nearly every CWS since 2010 and I have seen UNO people there working there nearly every year. It would be interesting to know how many locals are working for the NCAA during those two weeks, its a lot. Between the press box, press interview rooms, field level activities, its quite the large crew.

It is actually a return for UNO as host of the CWS. They were the host institution until 1963 when they had membership in both the NCAA and NAIA. Creighton became the host institution in 1964 after UNO dropped its membership in the NCAA. (UNO dropped its affiliation with the NAIA in 1973 and joined the NCAA Division 2)

It's only fair if UNO people are working the event, and also, I'm assuming Tal Andersen Field will be used for teams to practice on. Ideally, I'd like to see UNO get some funding to continue the athletic iniatives over on the athletic campus including the admin building that is in the master plan that includes indoor practice space, lockers, and offices. they lose really any on campus indoor space for soccer, baseball, softball, and golf when the old golf dome got killed by straight line winds a good 7-8 years ago. Now, it's just an outdoor soccer field, it looks like.
