Breaking News… Construction on Mutual of Omaha Tower stopped this morning after large cracks were discovered near the base of the tower core. According to structural engineers, a large portion of the core may need to be demolished and rebuilt, delaying the tower completion date by over a year. A news conference will be held later today, April 1st.

I heard they were going to stop using steel and concrete and change over to LEGO bricks due to tariffs (although I believe there are tariffs on LEGO imports, they're not as significant as steel).BRoss wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 9:51 amOh hahaOmahaOmaha wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 9:46 am Breaking News… Construction on Mutual of Omaha Tower stopped this morning after large cracks were discovered near the base of the tower core. Also, they will now scale the floors to minifig size, so they will have over 500 floors of office space.

Cool, not only the 3rd floor of steel, but you can see all the clips that hold on the glass, left of the tower crane too.

Geez, the elevator shaft almost looks like it occupies as much space as the floors around it.

Re: Mutual of Omaha Tower (14th & Farnam)
When are they raising the core? It's been a while.
It seems that around the time they started erecting steel, the core slowed way down.
As far as that goes, if the core goes up another floor the crane should follow soon thereafter - I'd think.

I’m sure the core reconfiguration added at least a week, if not more. They may also be waiting on tower crane sections. Also, isn’t the blue crane set to come down soon?skinzfan23 wrote: Wed Apr 02, 2025 4:27 pmI wondering the same thing. Thinking it should be soon. Its been 3 weeks tomorrow. I thought they mentioned the blue tower crane was coming down this spring.
I don’t think they would be waiting on any crane sections for the yellow crane because it still has quite a ways before it needs to be raised.

Although I'd think they're highly organized down to the day. Therefore, I cannot imagine the crane sections would be something to wait on. Or maybe I should say, the sections should be somewhere within the Omaha area vs. trucking them in from out of state.

Looks like they’ll be raising the crane at level 30. Supports are being put in place on core at lvl 30

We’ve had some crazy weather the past couple of weeks which could easily delay something like that. I think the garage and elevators make it look small, but I would guess that it is going to be at least the same as the FNBO tower if not larger.

Im glad I'm not the only one kinda puzzled by that. They know what they're doing, but I was asking myself "where's the functional space?".

Typically, all the 'repeatables' will be in that core. So outside of just the elvators, all of your supply closets, utilities, bathrooms, etc will be housed in that concrete block. That being said, it is a big % of the floorplate.

Re: Mutual of Omaha Tower (14th & Farnam)
So I did some back of the napkin math based on the floorplates from the Planning Board submissions (https://planning.cityofomaha.org/images ... rch/12.pdf).
It looks like the square footage of the floorplate for the lowrise section of the tower will be about 19,000 sqft, with around 4,000 of that taken up by the core, leaving 15,000 sqft of usable space for office. The highrise portion will have about 16,000 square ft total, with a 3,000 sqft core for about 13,000 sqft of usable space. I didn't account for the cutouts so I'm definitely overestimating a bit.
While I couldn't find floorplates for First National, Woodmen's tower portion has floorplates of a little more than 14,000 sqft without deducting for the core.

Right, right. By functionality, I mean the process of doing business, what makes them their money. It's kinda surprising there doesn't seem to be so much percentage of the square footage for that purpose.

Yeah, there isn't floorspace for a larger (like real big) conference room for an all hands type of meeting. Though, it may just be something that isn't part of their needs/process.

Couple from this weekend.
1. First up, the 72 and Center View: 2. More glass going up left of the tower crane.
