Could have been a nice compromise.

I don’t disagree with the above sentiments. And as much as I like towers...I feel like it wouldn’t have aged well given the remaining Con Agra buildings and much of what was built in that era. The Amphitheater idea survived, though a bigger one would've been cool along the riverfront. I can’t imagine the current space is big for something like Maha to utilize. And I’m still struggling with how the scaled down Maha will fit on the “grand lawn” but that’s another topic.

It is so 80's that part of one of the plans called for a shopping mall down there....while Omaha had a downtown shopping mall built less than 5 years prior that was already starting to fail. I guess they probably thought the only solution for a failing shopping mall was to....add another shopping mall downtown!
Also, that Con Agra highrise tower kind of feels like they just cut and pasted something similar to The Landmark Building in there...which, most also now agree the Landmark building was a bit of a mistake design and aesthetic wise for its old market surroundings. It has never been a popular building in that area and totally failed in what it was designed to do for the area in terms of modernization and integration into the street grid.

True. At least the tower doesn’t feel as dated as City Hall or The OWH Building.omaha79 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 9:52 am It is so 80's that part of one of the plans called for a shopping mall down there....while Omaha had a downtown shopping mall built less than 5 years prior that was already starting to fail. There are some things I like about our brutalist friends downtown.nebport5 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 10:59 amTrue. Some things, yes. I would like them better painted black. I also don’t mind the Police Headquarters...being less offensive at its lower height and very tolerable at night with the blue accent lighting.omaha79 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 1:43 pmThere are some things I like about our brutalist friends downtown.nebport5 wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 10:59 amTrue.
